I admit that DBZ has many problems

- evrey single enemy has transofrmations
- anime is sometimes boring, many episodes are full of stupid fillers and those staring/talking scenes
- Goku always saves the day

But the characters are great, the fights are wonderful and even though it was boring sometimes, I watched and recorded many episodes. Too bad I haven't seen all the first episodes.

The first Schizophrenic Manga series, but more is sure to come... Full Metal Alchemist.

Full metal alchemist is one of the first manga/anime series i ever read/watched and so looking back on it has left me in no doubt about some factors. the setting is consistant, the storyline twists and turns like a bunch of snakes and three octopi having an orgy, the characters are quirky and fun to read/watch, and the entire series is lacking in those unrealistic explosions and is more about a conspiracy theory. apart from that, my attitude to the manga and the anime differs some what.

The Manga does get very stodgy from the moment they break off, and it also follows only 1 villian from that point on, unlike the anime were your always chasing shadows to the balls to the walls fantastic ending. Which is one of the differences between the two, the Anime has ended and has ended before it became turgid and samey, whilst the manga series hasn't.

World wise, Hiromu Arakawa (the creator) has a deep enough understanding of pre-WW2 europe to know about various factions and ideals, and also keep the names very european with many... it over all feels like a european manga, which is odd for most, as they mainly focus around japan. this is one of the reasons i like it so much, as it's a deviant from the shonen norms.

Character wise, you get to like the alchemcic shrimp with vicious short temper, edward, and his suit of armour brother, Alphonse, almost a much as people like chocolate. The host of characters is expansive enough for a conspiracy theory to hold everyone, but they die in reasonably frequently so that they don't become too vast, but not so frequently so we actually feel the death, and it has some significance. The nice balance enables people to feel attached to some characters, whilst hating others.

over all, its a pretty good series to watch, but not so good to read.

Well none of us would be quite as through as you.  So you are doing a great job.

Most of the Anime is not so great (at least the things we get to see in america).  Also, there is the fact I am not always sure what is considered 'anime' and 'cartoon'.  For instance.  Yu-gi-oh.  Is it Anime?  Bakugun.  Anime or cartoon? (I suspect Anime).  I have watched a lot of 'cartoons'.  HCM a few that you'd like me to review and if I've seen em I sure will .

I generally feel that i have done my fill of reviewing most anime's, i have stated my views on each one, so there really isn't much more for me to say to avoid turning this forum into a monolog.

In some way's i want people to find fault with my reviews, saying "One piece Sux, dude, look at x to find out!". In other way's i want people to bring up Shonen stuff that I've never heard of, as i don't have some kind of clairvoyant space brain hooked into shonen jumps database.

if you want to review some mangas, the site is One manga, it will provide you with lots of supliments.

Yu-gi-oh is a anime series, along with Bakugun. It would be interesting to have a compare and contrast review about the original stuff and the dub version. Yu-gi-oh was dubbed by 4kids, and I have seen some of the original stuff, it doesn't seem to bad (They have guns inside of fingers!).

It would also be good to compare something like Avatar: Last airbender, to something like Yu-gi-oh, to see how badly the latter has been dubbed and how different it is from the american made one.

you guys review a couple of Manga's for yourself, or Re-review the ones I've done, to see whether you've come to the same conclusion. There are 7 which i have done already and 5 which you could do yourself.

in no particular order

Since no-one else is going to take up the challenge, i am saying hang the sense of it, and continue to review.

ok, +Anima-not a japanese person in sight.

its very rare that you get a manga without japanese people in it, and i mean really no japanese people in it. With hellsing you had the occasional japanese tourist who was headshot, and with FMA you got a country far far away with people occasionally visiting, but in +Anima, there really are no Japanese references in there at all!

+Anima is set out in the old west, and takes the point of view from a native american boy called Cooro. Cooro is an +anima, a person who can transform into a animal human hybrid, in Cooro's case, a crow. he is joined by the transgender Husky (who gets mistaken for a mermaid), a Stoic bear hybrid called Senri and the crybaby bat-girl called Nana.

the world is mainly a conflicted between europeans, native americans and arabians, which is a nice idea and each of their attitudes to +anima are mirrors of their real-world counterparts reaction to human-animal hybrids in mythology.

However, one bad thing about the manga is the complete lack of action. It has its moments, but these are few and far between. this is a manga of conversations rather than of high level energy blasts, which makes a break from some of the more actiony ones, for those wimps who don't like to see violence.

Hehe, sorry I watch very few of these, and am watching less and less as time goes on.  Like Full Metal Alchemist.

I watched a few episodes.  The highest praise for it I could muster was...meh.  Don't know if it was because it reminded me of something else, or it just lacked that hook that reels people in.  It was rather bland and boring.

Yu-gi-oh started out great, and Yu-gi-oh GX did to until recently.  I liked the conflicts, the character interaction, even the story.  The characters were a bit bigger then life, but seemed more endering for it.  Then of course, it started suffering the dreaded BBB.  Oh your creature 'x' has 4500 attack, is immortal, and can attack 100 times.  Well my creature has 'y' attack, and is unblockable, doing just enough damage to win!

Became trite and predictable.  Just like GX is becoming.  Bakugan started out with the BBB syndrome, so it skip the part where it had to reach that part.

and now, for something a little different

Eyesheild 21- Victory... in america!

Being British, middle class and have a moral stance on steriods, I can't stand american football. eleven pumped up humaniod houses with as much collective brains as a table running into each other just doesn't do it for me. So I was justifiably annoyed at the newest Manga I have been trudging through, Eyesheild 21. The story's a one trick pony with no legs, the setting is the everyday normality, the characters are like a bunch of whining plebs with super powers and the theme is detestable at best. In any normal mind, I would have put it down, burned it, and destroyed the ashes somehow, but I refrained from doing it because it has one of the evilest and coolest characters ever, Yoichi Hiruma.

Yoichi Hiruma is one of those characters who is completely brutal in every way. As team captain, he is in charge of the bunch of moping gits that they call a team, and is the one who holds the glue that keeps them all together, and that glue is fear! the Guy is totally cool, in order to get people on the team, he black-mailed them by hacking into their computers to get information, and in order to keep people fit, he puts sausages in their trousers and then gets his bull terrier to chase after them. Hiruma is able to pull out weapons from anyway and isn't afraid to use them!

now, with such a cool character, why did i stop after chapter 45? BECAUSE THE ****ER BECAME EMOFIED! it happens with all cool characters, everytime they get old, they begin to let their feels out and they are nothing more than depressed tramps who have deep repressed memories and it all comes tumbling out afterwards!

Generally, this is a review that is totally justified, I really couldn't be Arsed to read on with the rest of the bloody piece, before it made me want to put a gun between my teeth and flay the insides of my body!

Heehe just gave this a quick read again... Heehe Bixie you really did do a wonderful job.

Since I live in japan and I was pretty bored during my last vacation since I didn't have to get out of bed after 3 days of partying I thought I might actually start a new Manga (so far I've only been reading One Piece, Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist and Fairy Tale). And despite hateing Naruto with every fiber in my body I decided to give it a try since I thought that there MUST be a reason why it is so insanely popular and that I simply hadn't looked hard enough to find it.

Well it was off to a very bumby start since Naruto is soooo-ooooo-oOOOOOOO incredbly annoying in the beginning. All that crap about "My ninja way", " I want to be Hokage", "I want to be acknowledged" and all the other annoying blabber really gets on your nerves oO.
I mean it is the standard introduction procedure that you introduce your Protagonist and his motivation  but Naruto is just plain stupid. There is no depth to it, which makes it boring atleast for me. But ok you go along with it just think stfu everytime you read him saying stuff like that.

Then things got from near apocalyptic piece of tard to meh when he joined the team with Kakashi as the leader. You didn't have Naruto babeling loads of selfcentered crap on how unfortunate he is and we finally get new characters. And from there on it really just went upwards in my opinion. The characters get deeper (that's deeper. Doesn't mean that there really is any deapth Naruto is still stupid as **** but we have a decent story) and the whole rivalry/brother thing between Naruto and Sasuke starts to grab you and it doesn't seem superficiel. I always hate it when a manga doesn't give me the feeling that the characters are real people with emotions and that what happens (storywise neglect that they can blow up about 1 km² with a small cough) is reasonable in terms of character interaction.

So all was good and Naruto became a decent (decent, not epic but not bad) Manga for me and had completely won me over when Sakura tried to keep Sasuke from leaving the village <3 (Bixie might say she is being a whiny indecisive snow etc. but I would very much disagree).

And then Shipüden or how you spell it started with them all being 3-4 years older. Meeeeeeh that was certainly a rude awakening. I have the feeling that this Naruto form only lives from the popularity of the first part. But I'll write about my experiences with that at some other point I just wanted to say that atleast the first half of Naruto isn't as bad as I thought and that the characters can be very aimable.

I guess i could review Bleach then.

Bleach starts out with the feeling, atleast in the Anime(did not start reading the manga before i catched up with it).
The main character is Ichigo whom is spelled "First Guard" not "Strawberry" for once, and gets mocked over his name and is a kind of running gag but sadly it ended at a point.
He is a orange haired kid whom his teachers views as a troublemaker......... Nevermind, he is just a minor modified future Trunks from DBZ. Oh, he can also se the dead. He also got a sad backstory([sarcasme]jippy!!!![/sarcasme]) in its ways.
Bleach is not about death, evil. But its about society and corruption, when the assigned does no longer do the assigned task.
Bleach really starts with Ichigo stumpeling into Rukia whom does a fatal mistake during her battle with a Hollow, and with several other minor events it ends with Ichigo being turned into a Shinigami.
And since this drained most of Rukias power, he is forced to be her replacement until she recovers. A Shinigami is basicaly a Hollow hunter, and is there for the sake of balance.
So the unhappy Ichigo gets forced into being a substitute Shinigami, but his life does not drastic change at that point. Rukia gets a gigai(basicaly a artificial human body, a shell for the soul), enlists into his school and forces him to do his part of the work. He also enters a ring of certain people, whom is starting to get powers to se ghosts. Whom later becomes more importent.
After the introduction is over(about the 15 first episodes of the anime), the series really start taking of. And this is where the real plot begins. And expands.
I reccomend watching or reading it, it got someting. The evolving of the plot is however slow and sudden. But again that is someting you don't really notice watching it.

The sad part for the anime however is the fillers, if you know what to skip you should survive.

Well, you reviewed a seinen manga (which I might rereview at some point. It depends on how things go.), so I think it is safe for me to review one as well. The only one, except hellsing, I've actually read entirely is Berserk.

Now, I want to mention the anime for a brief second. I started watching the anime, which is very similar to the manga and actually forced me to read the manga, since the anime only covers 1/3 of what happens in it. English dub is superior in my humble opinion, since everyone has a matching voice and I don't have to read the badly translated and intensely focus on what the hell is said and just listen to what happens. The anime has a lighter tone, but an unmodified storyline.

Okay, slightly modified, but it's with the the mangaka's (the writer's) permission. The anime left out a comic relief character which I love it for. Also, the manga gives away a lot of mystery from the first two volumes (like what the crimson behelit does).

Alright, now it's time to review the manga. The story is about Gatts (or Guts or Gatsu or whatever you want to call him) who has had the worst life imaginable. I won't list some spoilers, but honestly, his past is DARK. He was born out of the womb of his dead mother who was hanging from a tree, he was raised by a prostitute among mercenaries, his father was a jack***. And that's just his past...

Anyway, this character became a mercenary himself and wields a gigantic sword, since his 'father' refused to give sword practice with short swords (so imagine a ten-year old wielding a longsword). Anyway, I don't want to ruin more of the story for you, so I leave off here.

The drawing style is DARK and heavy on the eye. Someone once claimed that hellsing was the darkest manga I'd ever read... Boy, was he wrong! The start is filled with blood, gore and demons. The ending even more. The first ten volumes are very restrained (except whenever our main character fights demon lords) and that's why the anime is much lighter than the manga, since they only cover the first ten volumes. Furthermore on the drawing style, it's heavily detailed and pencilled, so your eyes have to fixate on the picture for a while to slowly realise what kind of horrible spectacle unfolds.

The story itself is filled with the worst aspect of mankind. You see, there hardly is any good guy inside the story. Always, when you least expect it, one of the characters show their true colours. And they are usually quite ugly (the colours).

Anyway, the characters are all quite imaginative and very well-rounded. All with a past, a dream, unique appearance and possibly more. Surprisingly, though, there are only three characters who are consistently around, despite the fact that there were some good character sto keep around. All other characters either disappear, die or have to go somewhere. Which I thought a good point around halfway the manga, but after a while I realised this was only with the good guys. Yes, bad guys don't die, they just vanish to appear again, later! This is one of the worst points of the manga and mean that the manga will never ever be finished.

This may be a good time to mention that the manga has been running for twenty years, now, and no end in sight. I can say at this point: well, we can just imagine at this point what happens next, but it's not true... I hope Miura lives for another fifty years, because I really want to know how it ends, one day.

Also, at some point, the mangaka (which we call Miura from now on) realised that his story was too dark for some people to continue reading, so around halfway the story, he added a comical relief character... He did so at the start already and I feel that two comical reliefs are too much... Actually, the first one was even necessary for plot and voicing some humanity in the story. The second one is... Unnecesary at best.

Also, one more thing... Berserk has a few references to the real world:
- The extremely religious, corrupt power-hungry faction is called the vatican.
- The evil, heathen empire from the south is actually based on India... And a Buddhist king.

This is also what bothered me a bit...

Well, here I filled most of my gripes with the manga. It's a wonderful story that kept me intrigued for weeks and actually inspired my lastest RPG and hooked me on manga.
