Tried Log Horizon for myself and I finished watching the first season. I liked it. Character development is kinda lacking, but the power of the anime rests with the story and setting, also the mmorpg details. The emotional impact is nowhere as high as in Re:Zero, but that's not the point of the anime. There's way too much goofing around for my liking, probably intended to keep a lighthearted atmosphere so I can understand that.

Overall a good watch, likely that I'll give the second season a shot too.

Finished Log Horizon 2nd Season and I'm left with this feeling as if I watched more filler episodes than main story. That interesting cliffhanger at the end of the first season was insufficiently explored, almost a waste. The raiding with the Silver Edge guild and that no-lifer speech by William from ep. 10 was probably the best part of it all, and the closing raid from ep. 25 was nothing by comparison, a huge letdown that appeared rushed and disconnected to me.

If I had higher hopes for the second season it was because of the first and I feel like I've been let down a tiny bit. I wasn't exactly taken with the anime in the first place, if anything Re:Zero had a lot more pull, it's just that the story, the setting and the characters gradually grew on me and the second season didn't live up to my expectations.

If you are looking for something interesting, check out The Promised Neverland.  It is anew series about children trying to escape an orphanage from demon-sponsored captors.  Or something like that.

Just finished Orange (new series that came out in the Summer) it was pretty highly rated but it has to be one of the worst animes I've seen, I need something to wash this crap down, gad.

Episode 1 spoilers (and a reflection on personalities):

Like....Suwa is kind and attentive, glowing personality and looks, while Kakeru comes with so much baggage he practically crushes you underneath it, anyone remotely interested in that is either a sadist or a masochist (loves watching him in pain, or loves to be hurt by him, or maybe even a bit of both). Point is you gotta be as broken if not more than he is to take an interest. I get that you don't choose who you fall in love with, but the only reason she even took an interest is cause a friggin letter told her to? And suddenly after she was head over heels for him?!....A little too much for me to swallow I'm afraid, and I don't say that often.

I know that there are people with issues, but going above and beyond for someone and have them constantly throw it back in your face, you'd have to be devoid of pride to go through that. If I sunk that low I doubt anyone would ever consider me their equal.

Then throw time travel in for a spicy kick.

4/10 in my book, animation and voice acting was nice, story and characters increased my chances of developing a tumor by a fair amount.

So far I both like and dislike the direction in which SNK manga headed. The mythical / biblical allusions are kinda nice and all but I'm biased that way, and it still feels like they pulled a rabbit out of the hat with the more advanced civilization that exists somewhere out there.

*SNK Manga stuff*

Still don't get what the **** the difference between Elodians and Mare are. Re-read it about a dozen times, are ALL Elodians descendants of Ymir? That would make sense, but it still doesn't explain the discrimination, they're not all shifters as there are only 9 shifters in existence, and they're not titans, so I'm a little confused, or is it just mindless racism based on geniology? Also confused as to where normal mindless titans come from, I get that wall Maria was overtaken because Papa Yaeger took the Coordinate from the Reiss' daughter meaning she couldn't control the invading titans (and the titans were probably guarding the borders of the wall). But again, doesn't explain where the brainless titans come from, or if there's any other way to control them besides the Coordinate. That couldn't have happened without Yaeger though, so the infiltration titans are with the Elodians, or else they would have had to fight all the brainless titans as well as all the wall titans all alone, not to mention King Reiss and his Daughter as well (not to mention rogue Yaeger with his power vs the 3 of them).

There's that scout chick that wrote in her diary about a conversation with a titan, kept calling her Ymir, but in the end he couldn't hold in his hunger. (oh yeah, where does the hunger even come from?)

A lot of questions, and a friggin month of wait. Not even going to touch on Zeke being Eren's half brother cause I ****ing hate Eren, Mikasa and Annie need more face time.

Anyway there's only one thing that bothered me ALOT, and that was the reason for the assault on Paradise Island, I could understand wiping out the last vestiges of Elodian hope, but resources? Like **** damn you barely stumbling into the industrial era there buddy, even the US doesn't 'need' resources, Texan oil is plenty, just too expensive, we're 200 years since the industrial revolution with many dozens of countries all using up the resources and we still not run out. On the other hand they on the other hand barely a generation or two in and already barely scrapping by with just one nation.

I believe it's explained later that the real reason is to seize that titan king's power? But yea, from your thoughts I can understand why you don't like it very much, it's because I feel the same way myself. I believe the best word for it is convoluted.

On a unrelated note, it seems Naruto's approaching its end. Latest episode was Sasuke coming to terms with Naruto, not exactly stellar but pretty down to earth, albeit a tad on the emotional side. The in between life and death conversations were somewhat good.

The animation looks solid, but I have a distaste for tasteless fanservice, and an anime that's looking like a big excuse for senseless fanservice I don't think it'll be my cup of tea.

Just watch this anime movie called Kimi no Na wa and it was a good emotional ride, probably as good as it gets for romance and drama with a touch of supernatural. The one thing I found a bit frustrating is how at the end the main protagonists are left with no memories, but in spite of all that their deep yearn finally connects them.

Ah man, I think I needed this for quite a while. Onto the next one!

EDIT:
And the next one's done already! Children who chase lost voices has been one very interesting anime movie, the kind that explores people's feelings in light of being separated with their loved ones as well as the sacrifices they'd be willing to do to bring them back. I honestly didn't expect any of that before watching it so it was kinda strange at some point since the mythological views on the subject of life after death heavily conflict with my Christian beliefs, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

Also, I'm compelled to give Makoto Shinkai due credit for the amazing animation quality of his works, out of which The Garden of Words was simply breathtaking, truly a genius in the industry.

Shamo is one of the most raw and brutal martial arts manga I've read. It tells a story of a boy who kills his parents and turns himself into a cold-blooded martial artist after surviving the reformatory.

Unlike in other martial arts manga, the protagonist is not exactly a nice guy. He is a Byronic hero, unrepentant and often unsympathetic that keeps spiraling into darkness. The art is beautiful but there are many graphic scenes. A good read but not everyone's cup of tea.

And I also watched Paprika! Those who don't know what this film is about, you're better off just watching it. The art and animation is stunning, the music is memorable and the story is imaginative. It's just beautiful! You will probably want to rewatch it after the first time

Browsed for school / romance anime and this ReLIFE pops up with some good reviews, so I figure that I'd try some episodes before heading to sleep early, except I couldn't put it down and watched all of it and now it's past 4 am. It was just that good. The slice of life was the cherry on top. I am really glad I got to explore some feelings and memories from my high school days through the eyes of the main character, it got me really excited for a second season.

EDIT:
Watched Paprika! at Elvin's recommendation and I found it fun. The whole thing is basically a big hyperbole that spirals out of control with some interesting characters, crazy dreams and who know what other psychological experience. Since I'm a bit biased against psychiatrists and their methods of helping I couldn't enjoy it to its greatest extent, but without a doubt I liked it a lot and would recommend it in turn.

EDIT:
Finished Kokoro Connect and all I can say is that it was strange, both in a good way and a bad way. I really can't pull myself to explain it, probably because it left me in this very awkward emotional and psychological state that I just can't. But overall worth the watch. I wouldn't recommend it to just anyone though, some scenes can be frustrating to watch, not everything gets an appropriate resolution.

After so many years I watched Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind I had seen it as a kid but I had almost completely faded from memory, like fragments of dream. It is a beautiful film but you should also read the manga to see the whole story.

In many ways Nausicaa is like a female Tintin, likable, compassionate and courageous. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, where pollution has contaminated most of the planet and human settlements are scattered. The jungles are toxic and filled with huge mutated insects that will pursue perceived threats en masse - like wasps whose hive has been disturbed. Nausicaa is the princess of the Valley of Winds that rests at the edge of the jungle and things start to change when a flying ship crashes there.

Finished Clannad and I'm a bit disappointed. Sure, it was fun at times and all, but where's the catch? I believed it would be much, much more emotional than that, even to the point to make me shed some tears or something. Nothing of the sort, just mild drama and too much girly snow. My one hope was with regards to that lonely girl and her companion living in an empty world, but it didn't materialize enough. The second season better be more than the first one.

Eh, I read comments where people have stated that you can legit just ignore the first season alotgether, idk, first season was certainly drawn out slow and non-eventful. Which is nice, kinda like a sandcastle which in the second season you get to stomp to pieces for instantaneously bit of sadisitic pleasure (or is it masochistic since it's your castle and effort, nm semantics).

But yeah Clannad first season is a highschool drama while season 2 is more of a slice of life both with supernatural elements that can easily be overlooked (like Zodd the Immortal in Berserk anime, guy just pops up then you forget about him like a bad dream).

Finally watched re:zero and goddamn I loved it. It was so beautifully twisted and had many interesting situations as well as character development. I started watching and I couldn't stop.

The 180 might have been an exaggeration but I wholeheartedly believe that such a thing is possible if you have experienced so much pain and something snaps inside of you or you finally decide that you really want to change. But realistic or not, I was glad that he stopped being such an annoying brat. Subaru is a mixed case, where sometimes I liked him, others I wanted to slap him silly. But the cast surrounding him was great Loved the creepy music, beautiful visuals and animation but they really overdid it with the whale. I mean it was an epic fight but the ease of the cuts, the crazy jumps and running around on a flying whale was too much. Less would have been more.

There are of course lingering questions like wtf do they feed Puck(when he gets pissed) and just what is the witch's relationship with Subaru. And why did she kill Emilia when Subaru tried to tell her the truth? Just proving a point, knowing that this would be reset?

IIRC the light-novel has a whole side story dedicated to Rem and Subaru living a life together so it wasn't a sudden 180 per se, Subaru is an old-timer having raised a family. Ofc all that ended the usual way.

Aww so cute. But according to wikipedia this is [a "What If" story about what could've happened if Subaru and Rem had decided to run away instead; they lived happily after with two children.]

It would have been weird for the story if that actually happened and his ability brought him all those years back to try his chances with Emilia

What I did find a stretch was how he managed to form the alliance. Even the white whale bait was a wild guess, not like they could have known where it would appear so why would he think that they are preparing for it? But I absolutely loved how his initial approach misfired so much
