I think I still have Robotech sitting around on VHS. Too bad they ran out of funding to finish the story with the Invid (sp?)

Speaking of space animes, I should rewatch The Irresponsible Captain Tylor. Awesome futuristic space comedy that I'd recommend.

The japanese are still making new Macross anime, this one looks pretty awesome actually, though it's not the newest one.

A fight scene

Though the only thing Robotech and Macross really have in common is transformable mecha

I made the mistake to start the berserk anime after reading the manga. By all accounts it's pretty decent, the storyline is followed nicely, characters are not overlooked, it remains faithful without being identical. But something just feels wrong. The downgrade of that beautiful art into generic anime drawing, some anime cliches like static pictures or silly voices(at least no silly faces), the cheery music in the beginning but even worse the ending. Rocks fall everybody dies - curtain goes down, no foreshadowing of the future, no closure, nothing. I am aware how the storyline progresses afterwards but if they did not intend on moving with the next story arc they should at least have made a half-@ssed epilogue. I am disappoint.

I hate the opening. Openings are supposed to set you in the right mood for the show and that one sure as hell doesn't make me feel Berserky.

You generally like things the way they're originally presented to you. I thought Berserk was awesome, though I never read the manga.

You should try it sometime, there is so much more to the storyline than the end of the golden age arc. Think that's about 1/3 of the manga plus they cut a few chapters in the beginning so that the nature of the behelit would be a surprise for the finale .

I like the anime opening.
And to get the full experience, you have to watch the dub.

Allegedly, he's roughly around 70% of the story.
And, though lonely, the writer is still alive and kicking and, judging from how he loves to draw those elaborate scenes, not very keen on quitting any time soon.

So, hold on!

Aww and here I thought you were a sensitive shy young man. Btw considering the intro, it truly sucked, however this is a fitting theme for berserk. Ominous, dark, epic.

It's been a long time, but I thought the intro showed a piece of the future with Gatts owning a demon, no? I remember it being really good. What did you guys not like about it?

edit: ohhh! The song intro. I just skipped that anyway.

I think the theme 'hidden forces' specifically the god hand remix is awesome.

Though, I have no problems whatsoever with the original intro music.

I'm into the Beserk manga, good stuff. I can understand why Puck wouldn't be used in the anime; for 25 episodes it had enough characters already and they only barely touched on that segment in the story anyway.

I re-watched the opening song for Berserk and I don't think it's inappropriate, though the AMV song Elvin posted is awesome. The story doesn't get truly dark until Griffith is reborn as a Godhand (or whatever happens to him; it's not clearly defined in the anime iirc).

BLAME!

I read this manga. (it's pronounced "blam")

It was... Intense...

I tried reading NOiSE! first. It helped nothing whatsoever with understanding the story. I think I can fit all the dialogue of a volume on a small page of A5-format. So yes, there's no dialogue, no exposition, you just watch what happens. ids that experience good? Yes, it is. The artist simply loves to draw, almost as much as kentaro Miura, but, unlike Miura, this mangaka likes to draw big, desolate, post-apocalyptic, cyberpunk environments, which it does beautifully. My reason for stepping into this manga was because of its artwork, which is unique to say the least.

Remember, I stepped into berserk because of its NAME and nothing else.

Anyway, the story, as far as I can tell and as far as wikipedia can tell is about a computer system in the future. Earth has become dominated by AI, to the point of which there was a programme designed to all defense, nutrition and building of earth. Now, the programme was ever-expanding, so it kept building up and up. After a while (somewhere around the time they had sky scrapers that reached past the goddamn moon) there came "chaos". What the source of this is, we don't know, possibly the programme couldn't handle this much data. Now, from this world came a splinter faction of humans that (motive is entirely unclear, but I think they) want to be indpendent and in control again, enter the cyborgs. Now, the programme blocked off all non-full humans from entering its domain, which turned out kinda funny, since all humans were mercilesly slaughtered or mutated under poisonous gas.

Now, this is the setting and it's really hard to figure out. The cyborgs are designed like the cultists from WH 40K. in fact, the entire setting in NOiSE! reminds me of the chaos space marines. This world is dark and cold and empty and very very cruel.

Now, our protagonist is on his quest to find a full human (a human with genes that can infiltrate and retake control of the programme). This protagonist is a silent protagonist, something which is very annoying, since all the ones that are out to kill him aren't very chatty either. On his way he finds a more talkative (but only ever so slightly) companion that helps you figure out what's going on. he encounters several people that are abandoned or nomadic in this desolate world which he fights or not.

The protagonist most defining feature is the eapon he is holding. he holds a weapon that is capable fo killing all the robots of the programme and all the cyborgs. That's it. So yeah, there's a lot of action and limb-cutting, which isn't so bad in this world, since apparently we're so far into the future that we have the technology to knit back severed bones and nerve endings with magical machines in a matter of seconds and humans and machines aren't all that far apart either.

Now, my advice is to commit every spoken word to memory in order to piece things back together in a coherent frame. If you like story and pacing, this isn't the manga for you. It has many beautiful, overly drawn scenes, but they occupy half the columes, so beware. If you like gorgeous artwork, originality and blazing action, this is the manga for you.

BLAME!

the story that made me scratch my head, even more than NGE, but in a bad way. Though, my collection of manga artwork grew nicely.
