I'm done. I watched all of it, movies included. I just couldn't put it down. This is the crown jewel of the isekai genre. I absolutely love the world and I absolutely love it didn't accommodate Subaru for one second. It was a new world the workings of which he had no idea about until he experienced them firsthand, full consequences included. And he adapted, he grew, he moved forward. That episode when he talked with Rem about running away, my goodness... a dialogue, a scene with just a dialogue between two people and it was more intense, inspiring and heartrending than a final boss battle.

The last arc felt as if it was directed under a stroke of genius. From desperation to overcoming to triumph, all of them impressively executed. Betelgeuse was such an insane villain, and I loved it, he was awesome. Character relations, Julius and the knights, the nominees to the throne, everyone surrounding Subaru, all emphasized in their own way for a satisfying feeling like nothing's left out, they felt like their own character and not just fodder to elevate the MC.....

I'm losing sleep over this, it was incredibly good. I'm not even sure I can fault it for anything. I'm gonna give it a 9.5/10 fully deserved. Ah, and yea, season 2 soon. I'll watch it on air, have high hopes!

I think I've initially seen some faults in the first run. Maybe it was the way how roundabout Suabru sometimes talked or how he ended up in some situations, his choices, reactions etc.

But watching the series again (and after so many animes afterwards since after the first run) made me realize just how it all spuns into one whole story, that even a single dialogue is meaningful so I could look from a different perspective and appreciate the anime more. And yeah it's one of the rare cases of anime where an episode is almost entirely devoted to a conversation between two characters and is at the same time one of its best...

Isekai I've watched after Re: Zero were sometimes entertaining but they never even dared to reach a level of sophistication and suspense this series reaches (and the characters it builds, supports included). There simply isn't anything like this, maybe in the light novels somewhere.

Yep, there will always be some faults in any anime, but I actually think this is the best Isekai I've seen. I assume it's strenght lies in the fact that you barely think it's actually an Isekai, cus there are only a handful of nods. It's actually a cleverly designed fantasy story, cus Subaru being "out of this world" works in the plots favor becasue he needs to learn how this world works (and who some people are which in many cases gets him into a pickle). I could also list more of this clever plot devices, but I think you understand my point.

Like some guy on youtube said, "Re:Zero IS a Masterpiece. F*** You, Fight Me."

Nothing like raising a family with Rem to have the world reset on you. I have no idea how a human being can function after that, glad the writer didn't include it. Would be devilishly sadistic if he had though, to have this ripped away from him by the tendrils of fate:

Speaking of which, it's about time I rewatched the series, been years.

I woke up this morning and my mind immediately went back to this anime. But I can't let it stick for too long, need to move to something else. Time's precious.

I feel you, he's weak, carefree and when **** hits the fan he sincerely wants to help but never takes the good approach. He lacks a lot, A LOT of consideration towards the situation around him and that of others. In fact Puck even told him at some point about his three mistakes, one of which was how light he makes of a promises, talking with reference to him and Emilia. He wasn't oblivious of that side of him when he argued with Rem, he understood his own faults and was close to giving up hope, he very much hated himself for all of those. The psychology he displays is on a whole another level than your typical shounentard MC, he's actually believable, relatable.

Though the thing that turns it all upside down is the fact that he knows things that others don't know, he's experienced a lot of alternative endings and holds crucial information without which everything would go to ****. He is in fact right that people should trust him, he said that to Emilia when they were in the capital and argued after the meeting at the royal court. He just couldn't prove his intention, because if he tried he'd just end up dead because of his powers, and it's driving him crazy. As a result his actions are desperate and deliver the wrong message, he's on edge all the time. It's such an interesting plot and he's such an unique MC, reminds me a lot of Okabe from Stein's Gate, a simple person with a lot of weaknesses trying to overcome the fate of the world. It drives them crazy, it tosses them around, but they bounce back and make it work after terrible pain and rage and tears. It's just impressive.

Yet it's very satisfying how he "connects the dots". Remember the first time he approached the "making allies against the cult" subject? It was a total disaster because he was desperate, anxious and didn't think calmly. Yet this gave him an edge after the reset and how he did it is no short of marvelous even if a bit on the gamble side.

But imo it's not the plot device itself, but how you use it is what's relevant.

And you need to remember that his "reset" is not the ultimate tool/solution, for example there are events in his life that he cannot turn back anymore (looks menacingly at Season 2).

Moving on to Kaguya-sama: Love is War 2, after having rewatched the first season. It's still airing but the last episode's supposedly tomorrow, so I timed it well.
--- short note here: 8.5/10 for the first season, I re-read my post from back then and I think I was exaggerating a bit, if only just slightly. It was really good, though not amazing, there's a lot more emphasis on romance and heartwarming moments, so the comparison with Prison School was not that accurate. I enjoyed it thoroughly though, it's a very good anime and achieves what it sets out to. ---
But yea, after watching a few episodes from the ongoing season, it didn't disappoint. I'm actually quite happy with it so far, hope it keeps up.

Want spoilers from chapter 150+? (I'm joking)

Yeah, pretty much same opinion about it. Only that I grabbed the manga after Season 1 and that read it all, until I reached the point of weekly chapters.

That slice of life in episode 11 was way too real man, holy ****. Ishigami's stealing the show with his story and character development, I freaking love the guy. And then episode 12 which I just saw. Honestly the whole cast is really appealing, even the new girl who's constantly seeing inappropriate behavior, I hope she slowly realizes how her brain works and reflects on that, and lets us have a good laugh at the same time.

Oh man, one anime that felt refreshing and more down to earth than you'd expect. It also carries a sense of how the world is nowadays, certain groups, social interactions, media. They weren't hiding much, references too. I actually got the Dark Souls 3 reference when they brought up the suspension bridge effect. But yea, really good anime, I'm willing to give it a 9/10 because of how well rounded and wholesome it is, comedy is very natural and fitting, I had my moments of laughter.

Oh, and the OP and ED delivered again, seriously thinking about getting the ED this time. It's got that feel-good vibe about it. Last time I got the OP from the first season.

I also can't wait for the 3rd season, but that's a given at this point.

Same for Ishigami.

Also, what chapter did the anime actually reach?

Oh, I guess they're gonna reach the point of the manga soon. That's nice. It doesn't always happen.

Edit: Anime reached chapter 101, and the manga currently has 193 chapters in English.

A mecha harem. decent fan service, less accidental tiddy grab than one would expect. MC is denser than a brick wall though.

action scenes are cool, but like with a lot of anime, seems to end in the middle, and you have to pick up either the manga or light novel to find out what happens next.

Gotta be honest, it appeared in some places recently. I dunno if I should try it. Too much harem and dense MC. I don't really think I have time for that....

Not that I have problems with people who like it or are okay with harem anime, but what made me cringe even when watching RotSH was the "fake harem".

I think I watched one or two of those. Never again. Feels like the seasonal excuse for mecha/harem/ecchi. Their usual rating's around ~7 or lower on MAL. The only one I'll stick with is Date A Live and nothing else, and even that's just for the characters.

Oh, and by "fake harem", I meant that the MC doesn't actually end up with them in the end or that they have feelings for each other.
