Dear God, why?  That game was so banal, insipid, and uninspired I'm surprised Bioware produced it.

Yet it was hyped "RPG of the century blah blah".

Can you spot the suffering and death of role playing games now?

I have to disagree.  For as diverse and magical as Bioware tried to make it, stating it was a "dark fantasy RPG," it brought nothing new to the genre.  Why it's been hailed as the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate is way beyond me.

On a different subject, I recommend Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny. It's pretty good - the characters are mostly likeable, and the mecha designs are cool.

Now watching: Trigun.

Gundam never worked for me... Feels like "we have giant mecha cuz giant mecha are cool, also this one transforms into a panther cuz panthers are cool". Too much rule of cool.

I like Macross' mecha designs a lot more, feels more realistic. There's no single unique mecha, and the main mecha of the series, the Valkyrie, is only unique from pilot to pilot in how it is handled. It's not about who has the biggest guns, it's about who's most skilled.

All the awesome mecha stuff in Macross has a resonable explanation. I know there's some Minovsky Particle or something in Gundam that apparently makes giant mecha necessary but I never really bought it.

Also there's just something special about the j-pop always playing in the background of the battles in Macross, might not sound very fitting but somehow it just works.

Macross is mainly about relationships than awesome mecha battles though... always a love triangle.

I've tried to introduce the Macross series to friends but they've never even heard of it. They've heard of Gundam though...

See there was this american company called Harmony Gold who produced the butchered version of the original Macross which Harmony Gold named Robotech. Since then, Harmony Gold is abusing everyone who has transformable mecha because they own the rights to sell those designs outside of Japan. (they even tried to sue the developers of the new MechWarrior game...)

And therefore barely anyone knows of the awesomeness that is Macross outside of Japan...

Anyway, if anyone's interested I can give a quick summary of the Macross anime series I've watched. Nah wait I'll do it anyway.

SDF Macross
The original series from 1982. 36 episodes
Giant ass spaceship crashes into earth. Humanity becomes aware that they are not alone in the universe and uses the technology salvaged from the spaceship to create new aircraft capable of fighting the aliens. They also restore the spaceship, now named the Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, or just Macross for short.
The main character is a young pilot named Ichijo Hikaru who becomes involved in the events surrounding the Macross as the giant spaceship is attacked by alien invaders, aliens whom they might have more in common with than they think...
While following his career as a military pilot, we are also treated to a small love triangle involving our main character Ichijo, a popstar-idol named Lynn Minmay, and a military combat-navigator named Hayase Misa.
Unlike many animes who use a large amount of their budget on the first few episodes to make a nice first impression, the original Macross series actually begins to look better as the series progresses due to unpredicted rate of success. Still, it's old and looks kinda bad, but for it's time it's pretty awesome. I also really enjoy the art style.
SDF Macross is also the home of the greatest pimp in anime history, Maximillian Jenius. Seriously, this guy is just too much awesome too handle. He's my favourite anime character ever.

Pros: Very interesting characters, awesome battles and a compelling plot.
Cons: Love triangle is never really resolved (is it ever? In any anime?) Animation is well made for its time but still... old.

Macross: Do You Remember Love?
Move version of the 1982 series, released in 1984. 115 minutes
Same thing as the original series really, just a few differences, mainly the EXTREMELY improved animation. Seriously, it looks better than many of the animes of the 21th century. Its main problem is that if you haven't watched the original series, you probably won't have any feelings for the characters at all; 36 episodes of character development simply cannot be condensed into 2 hours.
I mostly like this because our main man Ichijo slaps little miss popstar Minmay for being such a spoiled little b****! God she deserved that...

Pros: Excellent animation, awesome battles
Cons: Character development is too hastened.

Macross Zero
Prequel to the original Macross, released in 2002. 5 episode OVA.
Macross Zero tells the events leading up to the alien invasion in SDF Macross, mainly the battles between the UN Forces and the Anti-UN Forces. The story follows a UN-Forces pilot name Shin Kudo who is attacked by a strange transformable aircraft during a mission and rescued by Mayan people living on an island. He quickly becomes aware that they mayan people holds something that both the UN and the Anti-UN forces want. Shin returns to the UN-Forces and is introduced to the new transformable aircrafts, and soon he's in battle again with the Anti-UN again as both sides try to recover the Mayan artifact.
Oh and there's a love triangle between Shin and a Mayan priestess, and the Mayan priestesses' little sister!
Macross Zero is the most mature of the Macross series so far imo, and the mecha animation is completely awesome. They really pumped all their money into those 5 episodes.

Pros: Excellent animation, awesome battles, interesting characters.
Cons: Plot can be kinda hard to follow if you haven't watched the previous series

Macross Frontier
Sequel to SDF Macross, released in 2008. 25 Episodes.
Hmm... it's really hard to explain the plot of Macross Frontier without spoiling the original series... ah well.
The Macross Frontier is a giant spaceship with humans and aliens living on it, cruiseing through the galaxy looking for a new planet to live on.
Our main man is Saotome Alto, a student aspiring to be a pilot who is thrown into a life of battle as a mysterious alien race attacks the Frontier. Oh and there's a love triangle (surprise!) involving a popstar-idol named Sheryl Nome and a student named Ranke Lee. Yay.
Macross Frontier is awesomely animated and has the best soundtrack in any Macross series ever imo (Macross Frontier music on CD has sold over 500.000 copies so far). It has some cliches, for example almost all of the main pilots go to high school which kinda gives me an Evangelion "teens save da world!" feel, but it didn't really bother me. Macross Frontier is a good way to introduce yourself to the Macross world as it explains the previous events very well.
Alto is an awesome main character and next to Maximillian Jenius from the original Macross he is my favourite character from the Macross series.

Pros: Awesome animation, awesome battles, some characters are interesting. AWESOME music! No need to watch the original series to understand plot.
Cons: Yeah about that love triangle... how bout making it actually get somewhere?

So yeah... that's it. There's a lot more Macross that I haven't watched but I think I've watched the most awesome ones at least.

AVOID MACROSS 7
Seriously, a guy controlling a giant mecha with a guitar and battling enemies by shooting speakerpods into their mecha and playing music to them might sound awesome but just... no.

I mostly just used a Gundam comment as a springboard into my Macross review though

I really liked wing, but then again, I was twelve when I watched it (to further illustrate my point: I really liked DBZ too then) (also my value judgement is largely biased because of nostalgia). I really liked the spectacle and I do remember there were greater themes (politics, war, is pacifism a realistic goal?) and all that. Also, I grew very fond of the dub. I do seem to remember a wide range of episodes, though a lot happens, so pace may still be reasonable (again, when I was a kid I thought Dbz was just a tad slow and I have this suspicion that everything has a decent pace compared to DBZ).

Finished Saikano yet, Ad?

Read 12 chapters of Naruto now. It's kinda lame. A little too simple.
Does it stop thinking of readers as total idiots in some point?

It does have some good moments though, like Harem no Jutsu, *facepalm*.

I never got into Naruto. A lot of my senior high school friends were really big on it at the time but it seemed pretty unremarkable to me. If it was several years earlier I might have really liked it, but it would have been just budding in Japan at the time. It was just "ninja this, ninja that". I went through the first 6 episodes, which should be enough for you to decide if you're really going to like it or not.

I think my older brother had something to do with it. I watched the Berserk anime beforehand and after going through that, Naruto just felt too softcore.

As to Naruto, it was good until the time skip.  Once it got to the point where it was one stupid illusionist versus another stupid illusionist, I gave up on the series.

Right........ Naruto is good, and still is. Small chance it will kill itself on the next plot-twist, but meh, but ain't gonna happen.

Edit: Well Naruto's real problem is that it does take some time to get good, the Anime is a bit better at the start.(First 2 arcs)

That only leaves One Piece, D.Gray-Man, and Fairy Tail as the only manga I buy anymore.

One Piece is good, i want more of it.
And Fairy Tail is snow, they waisted plot

But more on topic, does anyone know where I can read more than 3 volums of "World End"?
