Hey they did the best with the resources they had  They were a few years behind in technique though, celts did what they did 2 millenia earlier.
Makes me wanna hold a katana made as much modern technique as possible, like screw the historic replicas

I think most modern replicas are forged in one piece, sadly enough.
Also, what's wrong with you for not wanting a big, nordic greatsword? Katanas are only for cutting down unarmored peasants and honorabru unarmored swordsmen. It's a butcher's blade.
EDIT: I'll just state here that I think every sword in history is the best for its intended use with the scientific knowledge and resources available at that time and place, so that any discussion whether an Oakeshott type 13 sword is better than a british cavalry saber is not only irrelevant, but slightly ridiculous.

My first thought after reading the last karate was.. wow, so much bs crammed in a single update As an aikido practitioner I appreciate the principle behind using your hands as a sword but you can tell that the author wanted to turn this into a katana vs western sword superiority contest..

And longswords are for snotty nobles playing duels at fencing schools.
I was just poking fun at internet culture glorifying katanas really.
Personally I think the awesomest swords are any swords with intricate guards, like clamshell style and stuff.

Ok, ok. I may have put it a bit vaguely. Truth is, I have people around me most of the time. So the thing I need now is something milder than what I usually watch. No nude, no ecchi, just something.. interesting. Mnemosyne was already on my to watch list
And ofc there are intelligent animes! The ones that don't keep the public hooked with boobs and panties
