Hey, Ikariam is a really interesting browser based strategy game with nice graphics and nice gaming aspect, has anyone here tried it?
I just started last wednsday and got hoocked, awesome!

Bah, it seems I'm at Zeta (the default location   ). I've built the Academy and Barracks, and started some research (Conservation). I've also sent 10 workers to the shared sawmill. Now what? I don't feel like reading the tutorial.  I understand there's an annoying bug with archers? Should I go for the melee units instead?

Okay hmmm...
Here are some first steps that should make it easy to start:
1) Put as many workers at the sawmill as you can, you won't need gold at the start but wood is far better.
2) Concentrate on research, put as many scientists in the academy as you can again even at the cost of no income at all.
3) First research economy and science fields for they are the most usefull for quick progress. Try to get to wealth as quick as posible cause that what allows you to mine your islands luxury goods!
4) DO NOT go for any battle units for people that are on the Island with you supposed to be your friends and not enemies, you should all work together!
5) Battle units require much military research plus rediculous upkeep costs which will slow your progress down, however if you are attacked build a warehouse and it won't allow anyone to take your resources.
6) When you have researched wealth you'll be able to trade for other luxury goods in order to do that you'll need a sea port, a trading post (the higher the level the longer your trading range) and a cargo ship.
Some trading tips:
*Cost of luxury goods should be from 10 to 20 gold.
*Cost of building material (wood) should be 3 to 5 gold.
*Luxury goods go in the rate of 1 for 1.
*You can only trade resource for resource with other players by sending resources directly to them. This depends on his honesty to honour the trade and send you his part in return, you should talk to people in order to do this.
Buildings which you should upgrade at the start:
Academy, Town Hall, Trading post and Tavern after some time, others could stay unupgraded.
Most usefull resources (From the most usefull to the least):
1. Marble - required for higher upgrades of most buildings.
2. Wine - Boosts population growth and keeps citizens happy.
3. Crystal - Needed to upgrade higher levels of the Academy and upgraing weapons and armor later in the game.
4. Sulfur - Used to build ships at the seaport and some other battle units.

I'm there somewhere, but I have no idea where. I'm upgrading a town because it's the first thing I figured out how to do. Then I sent 20 workers to the wood mine.
Edit: just saw TnT's post and it looks like I did it wrong

I am on Delta. The island of Atios. I have been playing for a few days now, and I am going quite good at the moment.
My town center is level 7, and I have also researched many other things too.
My IPT class is having a competition of whoever has more points with their town, that they get money.

OK, I ended up with two accounts. I left the first one and couldn't get back in, so I started a second one. But after I did the email confirmation, I could use both accounts.
So I am Binabik and Qantaqa. Both are on Zeta. Sleigous at 38:74 and Pereytia at 27:58. Both towns are Dodge City.
I'm about 1/2 hour away from finishing research on pulley in both towns.
Is it a good idea to upgrade the wood mill?
When should I quit concentrating on wood and go for gold?

That's one of the best things, but you can't do it by yourself (means too much of a loss), you need the other guys on the island to pitch in too.

Does upgrading the shared sawmill allow a larger number of workers chopping wood, new options, or what...?
How profitable is warfare...? Wealth is still hours away, so meanwhile I'd like to explore other features (and loot somebody ). Any ideas about the average armies...? My guess is the noobs have zero defences, so I might pop some cherries.

I just donated enough wood for an upgrade. It allows 40 workers. If there's any other bennefit I can't find it.
I have a barracks in one of my towns, but no army yet. It only allows 2 slingers. I don't know if that limit is fixed or is based on something else.
I'll be sure to keep my military advisor on the lookout for any cherry poppers.
edit: The other town is being greedy on wood donations. So I sent a message to everyone asking for donations.

@Vlaad attacking is still a bit buggy, people lose far more than they get in return. Attacking a level 1 town will give you some wood (if you survive that is) while attacking a level 2 and higher will also allow you to raid some gold.
Upgrading the sawmill and luxury mines allow you to put more workers there with rising percentage each time, I reccomend to focus on the sawmill more cause once you have wood upgrading the luxury mine is easier and faster

This game is pretty good. definately better than tribal wars...
but i feel unsafe after several attempted raids on my town.
Tnt when should i offer gold to the gods?
