Offtopic: Moderator's note

This thread probably should be moved to the Library, and that will happen soon. However, I have a feeling that it is of interest to the people who regularly visit this forum, so I'm leaving it where it is for now.

On a personal note, on my dialup connection, I figure if I started downloading WoG right now, I'd be ready to play it about the time Heroes 4 comes out.

Somewhere in the past I came accross Wake of the Gods before, but since I didn't have the Shadow of Death expansion back then I didn't pay much attention to it.
Last week I decided to try and backorder SoD and I accidentally came accross the WoG site again.  It looks really fascinating and since I've read that they're testing the new or improved multiplayer capabilities right now I wonder how many other heroes players have tried WoG out yet.  It really seems like an impressive add on and it's weird that so few posts in the Library are about it.  If some of you do have extensive experience with WoG, please share it with us.

Why do you say - so few posts about WoG? Just about a week ago I've seen several topics about Wake of Gods here, on the Library.

You're right, I found three or four threads on WoG on the first ten pages of the Library, though I don't consider that to be a lot.  One of them was only a couple of weeks old, but it concerned install problems about WoG.  In none of the threads I found however, anyone speaks about his/her experiences with the add on.  I though this thread came somewhere near and that's why I revived it.

WoG is pretty good. Sometimes I play with the modifications, sometimes not; it's nice to have the option.

The map editor appears to work well. I haven't tried the scrpting yet; I probably won't, I'm happy enough with how it is.

The character editor is nice too. You can choose your skills, levels, etc. if you like; you also have the option of having two "hidden" skills.

Some of the new artifacts are good, some I don't care about.

WoG Rocks

I feel that I am fairly experienced with WoG gameplay itself. Pretty much all the games that we play here in our home via hot seat are WoG games. If I am really bored and decide to sit down and play agains the computer, I always play WoG. Most of the graphics issues are really neat I think. There are a few that don't look the best and you can definitely tell what creature they used as a base but I don't think it takes away from the game at all. This last version has a lot better user friendly interface and a lot of really neat modifications that can be made. So far the only tiny glitch I have found in the current version is that if you try to convert level 8's in a necro town to skellies, the game will crash. At least it did for us and we tried it twice, only with Hell Hydras though. I don't know if you could convert Diamond or Darkness Dragons or not. Otherwise it seems to be relatively bug free and I can't wait for them to get the full multiplayer version ready!! Any specific questions, let me know

Yes, you can play without the WoG mods. Just use the old shortcut to start it, instead of the new WoG shortcut. The only mod that stays, that I've noticed, is the trees move about, like a wind is blowing. This has reportedly made one member seasick.

I've downloaded it yesterday and went playing the Single Scenario map Cave of Gerfrex.

Well, everything's fine and funny, till i stump upon 7 x 575 Medusa Queens. There's no way around them, and i have no more than 20 Ancients + other Stronghold army.

That's one turn for the Medusa's...

Anyone knows how to beat this?

Is Cave of Gerfex the one with the hero who looks like Shiva, the four-month time limit, and that annoying invisible maze?  If so, I'm really curious as to how you got at those Medusas in the first place.  Whenever I play that map, my "ally" won't move his tan rear out of the way so I can go on.    Time runs out, big disaster occurs, etc...

Actually, I found most of the WOG campaigns far too frustrating.  The headliner campaign guy can't get past that stack of Crusaders, Xsi got out of the garrisoned area only to face a big bunch o' Archangels, and so on.  The puzzles are too involved for casual playing.

The randomly generated maps, however, are great.  They are very amusing at times.  My brother managed to rescue a pikeman from a magic well.  Later in the game, his main army pulled up four angry gogs (gasp!) from a different well.  He also did our mom proud by buying his expensive Tower creatures at the weekly Day 7 "Half Price Monster" sale.

The moving trees are still a pain, but I've started to get used to them.

@Funbun. Here to download it:
http://www.strategyplanet.com/homm/wog/download.shtml

There are a lot of links and downloads, the allinon1.zip is the one you must have.

Khaelo, You have to drop a guy in front of the barbarian, then he will attack it and move away, but then there are 5000 Medusa Queens...

I don't know how to get past the crusaders too, in the campaign. That statue says to drop the pikeman on some coordinates but i've placed them everywhere and it won't help. It's not real fun, indeed. Well, i'm probably doing something wrong.

Ah ha, that whole "dropping guys" thing.  I'd forgotten about that.  Thanks.    Does it say to do that somewhere, or did you figure it out on your own?

The legions of vampire lords and liches in the beginning were reduced by an event -- maybe there's a similar event somewhere for the medusas?

In the campaign, the statue won't talk to me.

I've figured it out on my own... First i was giving all my army and artifacts to the Barbarian just to try something but he wouldn't move. Then my last option (after an hour or so) was to drop a guy there... well, that worked.

by the way, when you choose to kill the witch, all your army will become Troggy's. So just leave your army at home and kill her Then get your army. Ya well, it doesn't matter... you're stuck anyway.

Ofcourse you can grab the map editor and remove 4500 Medusa's... i don't know how to beat it another way. I haven't seen an event or so what reduces them. I even tried to summon a boat (there is one coordinate water next to the Medusas) but when i get on land behind them i automaticly attack them cause i'm too close.

I find the idea of the map itself very fun, with all those choices you can make... heh, except the teleport maze, that was very annoying And the campaign too. Would like to see a walkthrough.

Did you already had that pikeman joining you?? If you go to the statue after that, he will say something.
