Because the BwoFestria is the only faction with the theme of themelessness, themelessness can be classified as a theme unto itself.

I can't tell if we're having an argument or a philosophical discussion

Just giving an opinion.

First off, enamelity, sorry to burst your bubble, but your faction has plenty of themes. Otherworldly races, dimensional magic, mutants, absurd anatomy, evolution... these are all themes. The essence of the faction itself is adaptabilty, and yes: it's a theme.

Second, Titanium Alloy: ok, we got the point - you dislike this one, and for pretty understandable motives. But what you're aiming at? Making him scrap the whole work? Make him retire from the competition? Or, more likely, make him realize that such a faction would never make it to a Heroes game? If this one is the case, I feel the need to remind you that no one here works at Nival, and we're not here to make credible HOMM factions, but to show creativity. Of course, a possible policy is to design a faction that could credibly be introduced in a game (which is what I tried so hard to do) but this is by no means the necessary prerequisite to compete in the contest.

You still haven't found out what they are? Read the overview. It isn't that long.

I probably won't translate them. They certainly catch peoples' attention, read Baklava's first post here.

having looked over it, i am torn. Should I put this faction down because it has nothing to do with heroes, or should I congratulate its maker for an innovative design.

Because they are the only weird, untranslated mottos and alternate titles of all the ICTC3 entries, they stand out, catching peoples' attention.

My review of this faction:

Cohesiveness: 9/10 the bwofestria feel incredibly cohesive one with others. But they are terribly uncohesive with Heroes of Might and Magic. This would lead to a low mark apparently, but not so when the race is purposedly done with the intention of breaking HoMM traditions, and all one could say is "goal accomplished!" Still, Enamelity can't get the perfect score, sorry. Making a bunch of almost abstract aliens cohesive together is too much of a easy work.

Imagination: 14/15 of course and high mark for imagination is obligatory for the bwofestria. It gets better and better as one reads how the bwopfestria completely warped the upgrades system we were used to with whatever HoMM faction with the evolutionist system, which is an explosion of creativity itself*. So, why not a perfect score again? Well, while the bwofestria succeed to be original, they fail to do so while remaining familiar to HoMM. They are "alien" to the game and while they are purposedly so, this is sorta like a cheap trick: turning "Make your faction for H6" into "Make your faction and throw it into H6."

*before someone points out, I am fully aware that the evolution idea was first suggested by other posters than enamelity; fact stays that he could have dismissed it, instead he saw the quality in it, received it and most importantly, developed it to what is now. So credit goes to him anyway.

Back story: 6/10 "They invaded, period." Ach. As the Zergs in StarCraft showed, you can have an alien, feral and istinctual race and still have a storyline. Plus, narrating the deeds of the bwofestria on Ashan could have been a good way to make them feel more like a part of Heroes. But, it didn't happen.

Battle facets: 7/10 the bwofestria look definitely innovative and fun to play, mixing uniqueness with customizability -hint guys, this a trademark of high quality- and it doesn't get a perfect score only because it doesn't look at balance or design a core strategy in any way. But overall a good work.

Discretionary: 4/5 my discretionary vote kinda reflects the whole spirit of this review: being original is good, but being original without derailing completely from the series would have been better. Originality for the sake of it is fun, but if you try to put it in application it creates a lot of problems. Oh, this is also the moment to compliment with Enamelity for the choice of the pictures, I suppose.

Overall: 40/50

Cohesiveness: 8/10 Though not cohesive with the Homm universe (so far), they are very cohesive with each other.

Imagination: 15/15 I know this is something I could have never imagined. Would take a whole lot of work/coding to make this come true.

Back story: 5/10 I know I am not one to speak, but the back story could have been a lot better.  If it had, this town would have been amazing instead of just 'fantastic'

Battle facets: 9.5/10 Though it would probably blow my mind trying to understand everything.  It would make things..interesting to say the least.

Discretionary: 3/5 Again the only reason the points are a bit low here is the background.

Total Points : 40.5

First of all, I'm sorry that I'm not able to give you such a good score than the two former judges. But that is my opinion. There is no offence against your effort intended.

Cohesiveness: 5/10 (as a faction it works very well, as part of Heroes - as I imagine it - not)

Imagination: 5/15 (it's a new idea for fantasy but science fiction uses mutations and different dimensions again and again, so I can't find anything innovative there, would have got a much higher score if connected better with the Heroes setting)

Back story: 5/10 (a bit uninspired, but with potential)

Battle facts: 10/10 (sounds fun to play, the mutation concept is great)

Discretionary: 2/5 (for some good ideas)

27/50

My Rate about The BwoFestria

Cohesiveness: 8/10 points (Thease creatures won't pass into the HOMM 5 universe, although the main idea is nice. Maybe in HOMM 6 or 7, they could be added, but then, they must be more similar to each other. The only creature I can imagine in HOMM 5 is Selk Cheketre.)

Imagination: 13/15 ponts (I hope there are some creature, that you don't imagine as we can see them in the pictures. They seem a bit ugly. Anyway, you were very creative and I like that.

Back Story: 5/10 points (I think that thease creatures should not have any affairs with other races, since they are completly different to others. They should have their own type of birth and history. You could have added some more informations, because it seems for me, that you have an unfinished histoy.)

Battle Facets: 9/10 points (Why do the creatures only have the "Mutation" ability?)

Discretionary: 4/5 points (For the nice main idea and for the one of the best racial ability in my opinion!)

Overall: 39/50 points

Cohesiveness: 8/10 well, it's somewhat easy to make an alien faction look cohesive, but choosing the easy way isn't a bad thing here.
I'm confused because as I understand it, you describe them as insects ruled by some sort of god or super demon but you make them sound intelligent, I don't think an insect is intelligent.

Imagination: 12/15 very original, for a homm town.

Back story: 6/10 doesn't fit very well with homm universe

Battle facets: 8/10 interesting evolutionist system, could have been even better if some evolutions would have granted slightly different bonus depending on the creature.
too different from the classical homm system where each creature is ranked at a different level.

Discretionary: 5/5 for being (probably) the most unique town in the competition.

39/50

Tobius's rating

The BwoFestria

Cohesiveness(5+1)=6 Sadly a beastly alien-race is quiet incompatible with HoMM
Imagination(4+3+3)=10
Back Story(1+4)=5 It seems to be a new incarnation of Kreegans and their hives, but really original. Sadly, you don\'t expand on the HoMM universe, but rewrite it, thus it\'s not really compatible.
Battle Facets(2+5)=7 I really like the mutations

Discretionary: +1 for the intriguing mutations; -1 for no emblem

Total Score=28

How I graded these:
Cohesiveness (Internal Coherence [1-5]+HoMM Compatibility [1-5])
Imagination (Creativity [1-5]+Innovations [1-5]+Originality[1-5])
Back Story (How well it expands on one of the HoMM universes [1-5]+How interesting it was to me [1-5])
Battle Facets (Variety [1-5]+Inventive Aspects [1-5])
Discretionary (Bonus for exceptional efforts[1-5])

Cohesiveness: 7/10

Imagination: 10/15 – It’s part of the concept that all creatures are insectoids but I can’t give you points for variety. However I like the idea of mutations.

Back Story: 6/10 – a bit short

Battle Facetts: 6/10 – There are almost no descriptions of the differences between the creatures

Discretionary: 3/5

Total Score: 32/50

Cohesiveness: 10/10
Imagination:12/15
Back story: 7/10
Battle facets: 8/10 A lot of good options and techniques to wage war.
Discretionary: 1/5  wild and wooly...4th dimensional mindbending though just doesn't fit in with the M & M universe.  This would make a great starcraft faction

Cohesiveness: 10 points
Imagination/creativity/originality/wow factor: /14 Love the overview – interesting idea for a race. I only deducted a point because it isn’t quite homm…  I think too that you could have chosen a colour to represent them! hehe
Back story: 8 points – extensive detail – fairly loose link to ashan but enough to make it a plausible story.
Battle facets: 9 – really interesting, love the mutation idea too!
Discretionary: 2 - smooth and polished, I want to read your novel!  Doesn’t really fit the HOMM universe although I love the originality  It does feel like it is unfinished too…
Total: 42
