I calculated today how much Blizzard is pulling in on WoW subscriptions.  11 million some members at $15/month comes to about 1.98 billion a year.

I am by no means an authority on business workings in the gaming industry, but I agree with OmegaDestroyer that Blizzard's sales figures don't necessarily reflect the company's greed.  From what I've heard, it takes a great deal of money to fund their projects (and we know that Blizzard has been working on several huge titles in recent history).  From the programmers to the graphic artists to the people in marketing (we're talking global here), a lot of people need to be paid for their contributions to these various projects.  I'm sure tech support and Battle.net wouldn't be possible, either, without a flow of money keeping them running.  The production and release of games entails so much that I, for one, would hate to be their accountant.

This was a very elementary guess on my part, but I think it's too easy for casual gamers like us to dismiss a successful developer's income as the result of personal greed.  Thus, the existence of these monthly charges don't really surprise me.

@guitardude

You are absolutely correct. The problem is, some people still fail to understand that games require money to be made, they are not just popping up for our sake.

About that Battle.net stuff, it is being solved too, Blizzard mentioned some time ago that it will be monetized.

Icewind Dale 2 complicated?  Hardly.

Well, I really disliked the Character Creating. When I have a game, I want to play that game and not waste 45 minutes of my precious time on character creating! (and that was too complex imo)

Anyway that really dampened my entheusiasm. IWD 1 ftw.

We had to do that with Doom 3 (or at least it was in the making for 5 years or close to it) and what did we end up with? A kick arse game, that's what.

Icewind Dale is a game by traditional RPG standards. To me, making and developing the character is half the game if it's a good RPG. If you wanted to play a hack'n'slash, you should've chosen Diablo instead.

lol, but it takes too long. In Icewind Dale 1 and Baldur's Gate, I could spend hours making up to 100 different Player Character (no joke, I just had too much time on my hands )

What really annoys me (amongst othr things) is that you can get PCs with Good Statts. The Statts are above average at most, and that really sucks in Duel Class, Multi Class or hybrid Classes, like Druids, Paladins, Monks and Sorcerors.

And on it's own, it had been too complex. Surely I can understand the addition of feats, but really, I don't want to sepnd hours of reading what they do, and how they expand and bla-bla-bla.

The game just doesn't feel right. but that's just my opinion

and Hack'n'slash isn't my genre lol. Only Hack'n'Slash I played is Dungeon Siege.

lol, Asheera, as a Baldur's Gate 2 Player you should know that the PC creation there isn't complex at all. It's interesting, but doesn't take too long, so it doesn't get boring at all.

But having a complex system is much more interesting in the long run.

Well, at least for those 'lazy' ones like you there's a "Recommended" button in NWN, for example, if you want to get into the action that fast. But keep the complexity for those that enjoy it like me.

That's a good idea. I don't think you could do that in IWD2 tho.

Also, it didn't seem to work well at all on my PC... the boring Char. Creation + shifty Graphics and Slow Gameplay on my PC = dislike.

Also another disadvantage ICW has to NWN and BG is that it is enviromentally weaker. NPC's don't interact, not real side-quests, etc...

It's more combat-heavy than most of the company's titles, though. Hence the confusion, I expect.

"Hard to be God"

The game, never mention here in HC, has now been mentioned. It looks decent, sounds like a decent title, but the combat system is like swinging your sword through enemies until you "move" to the right angle, which is visualy impossible to find, you have to be lucky to have the right angle. And good luck hitting from a horse! the horse moves in very large squares, so while the enemies hack at your horse your swinging at mid air.

Unmake a game!
I would choose SIMS series without any doubts about it.. Why the hell raising a family virtually? The only fun about SIMS "2" is drowning people, or let them die by removing all doors to an empty room..
I'm sick i know!

Oh and while we are talking about unmaking games! Why not unmake Virtual Jenna and that kind of games..

And ofcourse unmake World of Warcraft.. To save thoose computer geeks without any furture ;p Sorry for bein kind of directly..

Oh, oh and unmake Farcry 2!! That game sucked! Missec Crytek's good old farcry.. Much more enjoyable, and beautifull ;p
Bad graphics should be banned... (I know that alot of you disagree, but get over it, now a days games doesn't get bought if they look ugly or have a bad metascore.)

LMAO, the most fun I had on The Sims (they are one of my favourite game series btw) was in Sims 1, with that Goth house, you know, the one with gravestones out the back? Well I just kept putting families in there and then killing them and I made a graveyard with about 100 gravestones in it. It was fun as hell. lmao

Lol the Sims is not bad, but you get tired of it rather fast and there are like 100,000 expansions.

I will teach my level 6 year old little sister to play it it with me ^^

I will create myself with a girlfriend and two children (girls). I would work as an journalist or jurist.
