Random Maps
Hello everyone, I am new to toh, but have been playing heroes for years. I have been in a club where we have been running a lot of random map tourneys and I wanted to find out who in people's opinion is the best random map player in toh. It would be truly a pleasure for me to face such a challenge. Of course this would be a very subjective thread, but any info would be greatly appreciated. See you guys on the battlefield.

RedsoxFan3: It's either in the Shadow of Death or Armageddon's Blade add-ons. They're sold with Heroes 3 in a value pack at your local computer software store...or online.

I almost beat him once (out of 2 games) 
I also consider myself a good random map player ... but only because of experience.

The best is either Frank, Rychen or Joe but sincerely you probably are not ready for the level of plays these guys have.
Play any toh random map player and see if you can win. ToH has a play level that hotseat cannot prepare you for.
These guys are really great players.
Besides these guys are stuck up snobs who won't play newbies =)
Just joking of course. They don't play newbies for the same reason none of us do. Because we are looking for challenging professional games.

everyone can win against everyone on randoms since its only luck, and besides the fact that the maps are totally unbalanced and full of weird stuff its a paradise for cheating.
better take a look at some of the new maps, i think jb made 100000 new maps noone played, and start off with them

Mocara, are you saying I'm a stuck up snob who won't play newbies?
about the luck factor in randoms ... yes, there is a lot of luck involved ... but you usually detect early on in the game to find if the map is REALLY unbalanced ones.
In randoms, the more paths you clear, the luckier you get. Skill is using / transforming those unlucky factors to your advantage.

Midnight and Tim I think are the best random map players.
However, moc is right...I am way too snobby to play someone the likes of you (actually, with all the different levels of english speaking on these boards many won't realize that is sarcasm). Actually...I'll play 'newbies' a lot and try and give them tips etc. In fact, I think I gave midnight plenty of tips when he was just a fledgling TOH player...he though tamika (of all heros) was the best necro had to offer...oh my how you've grown kiwi/aussie boy. Most of the time a newbie wants to play me and ask if it is for TOH...I just say "if I win, no...if you win, yes".
But, moc...you are right...I don't always take up newbies on offers to play if I'm waiting for someone or looking for a competitive game...or even if they don't ask right...for example things like: "What, you too scared to be beat by someone like me" generally don't go over too well.
Anyway, Got to go. Look me up if ya wanna play.

phantom1500 was the best random player but he retired, man i couldnt even get close to him. I'm in semi heroes retirement too, its almost summer here in Sydney, gotta make use of it. The best random players in no particular order r joe, me, rych, tim, kuma, vinz, vex, archdevil666. Some other good players r slayer, al3x, jareky, undead knight, puskin, sir benyo, tyris123, amazon king, nikorus. xjust was also good b4 he got into HOS. Prolly some others lurking about too that i never played. And on the issue of map balance, i played a non-random open map the other day (for fun), and banned use of relics (at his request) then in week 1 he gets diplomacy and thrashes me with joiners, so there r lots of imbalances in the game for randoms or not, and lots of ways to win, some of the no-brainers u can ban and the rest u use.

hehe thanx Moc, inaccurate tho...
Midnight and Joe continually thump me on randoms, and I think midnight is fast becoming the best random player around since phantom is gone, and Tim doesnt really play them too much anymore. Kuma is great too, except slow ...and Joe keeps destroying me every time we play (even when I think I'm getting close) I play em coz they are fun.
Its kinda sad u think that way Andi. Sure the luck element is there, depending on the map layout out, but no more than getting HH and earth book on HG or BoB, what I would like to see is you give these players some credit where it is due, these players are great players, even if they dont do it on memory maps, they can still play with the best of them dont you think? Does a person only have to be good at heroes when he wins continually on made maps? or because he kicks everyones arse on randoms, does that make him skilled too...my personal opinion in yes. Maybe they are skilled in a different way, but still skilled. Cheaters/editors/trainer users not taken into consideration when saying this btw.

I am NOT the best random player.. in fact you might say I lose 90% of my games on randoms
but what the hell .. if your looking for a good fun and toh game you can come take me on I might surprise ya... sometimes
as for the best random players... hmmmm... well midnight has definately beaten me the most times.. but JTL has prolly killed me consistently on the same day week... aka "I need to Save joe"..... " Oh can I have one more turn to clean some stuff up" and WAM I dead.. but is always fun
And I love being able to play randoms with so many grreat players.. Midnight has definately given me the most worth while tips for them though

Dunno much about playing randoms, coz I dont enjoy it much.
But as to great players, there is no doubt in my mind, that all the players mentioned here, are great.
I personally have been thumbed a couple of times by Tim, on custom made maps.
But one player whose skill on random I have no idea about, is Lews Therin. He killed me badly on the only blind map I ever did play.
And I know he started playing only random, so my question to all u random players. Was he any good? I know he dont play nomore, but perhaps u played him season 3?

I have played lews quite a few times, probably about 6 or 7, all on XL maps, and everytime he thumped me. He is a loooong turn taker though, so we had quite a few saves. The only time I got close to him was when we discovered we had a bad map...no way to get to each other apart from D/D. Tim has played him heaps anyway, he could tell u more.

LoL, that was a funny game, Rych. After 10+ hours of playing we found that our parts of the map werenīt connected  .
About the loooong turn taker, maybe I am, but in my 15-20 games against Tim I think I spent much more time surfing in the internet and scratching my bottom than actually playing Heroes. Anyway, Tim is the most brilliant random map player I ever met, not only thanks to his patience .
But, having heard from Tim that he lost about 75% of his games with him, I think Phantom mustīve been by far the best random map player in the history of Heroes3.
Hello Defreni, thanks for remembering me ! I tried to start my comeback yesterday, but noone wanted to play me, being a 1000 points recruit.
Regarding what Andi Angelslayer wrote, well, he seems to be ToHīs no.1 Heroes3 moralist. Itīs amazing how much some people know about maps they never played, and tactics they never used.
But it seems to me like itīs not unusual for players with lack of skill and understanding to cut the game down to a complexity level thatīs easy enough for them to handle. Anything beyond that small cage is either called "pure luck", "unfair tactics", or "taking the fun out of the game". I wonder why he doesnīt prove his point by playing a number of randoms against Tim and scoring 50%. Hmm ...

yep, lews, and maxym and frank
lews is really good, but only played him once, he kicked my a r s e. He would be at the top level on randoms for sure. As would maxym when he gets back into heroes after spending some time in Alaska. Frank is prolly in there somewhere too as he started playing randoms at end of last season. But noone i ever played was a patch on phantom, that guy was freakish. I think Tim was only player to consistently get wins on the board with phantom, they had some pretty intense games i heard

My only 2 cents on this subject is that Phantom is also a really nice guy
Talked to him a couple of times on the zone, dont forget that. I mean about the niceness of ppl, lol.

I could not disagree more. In my opinion Andi is one of the best all round TOH players , and maybe the best blind map player . And that is what i call the true Heroes
I really like the idea of random generated maps, but the gerenrator sucks way too much, towns are not balanced on randoms and the host can view the map.
I prefer playing new / blind map noone hast "mastered"

Havent u learned yet motor, that there is a core of almost exclusively random players that you could play..where u can be assured that they wont. Most of those players have been mentioned here, and anyway prefer a good game to having to look in editor to get somewhere.
As for Lews....I gotta laugh. Lews has been around since season 1, and played his fair share of made maps. Has every random player out there got to prove someing to you motor?
Sure there is luck...last night I played a game with midnight...It was on the ring template, I drew castle...there was a zillion conservatories, Crag was in my tavern and I was hitting them really early, so by early week4 I had hit 2 utopias, had book of air and great stat arties, on Crag running around with 15 archangels. So I won right? no I lost to Dessa with a full rampart double build. so by the time we fought, he had 15 golds to my 15 archies, and 15 of his own angels too You call that luck? well I calll it luck to draw Crag and castle on a map, made for that town. He found the ingredient to beat that, and easily. That wasnt luck, that was a skilful player maximizing the potential of that map
