Continued NPC Guide

SKIE
"I want to go home..."
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Class: Thief
Alignment: True Neutral
Abilities: STR 11, DEX 18, CON 15, INT 15, WIS 8, CHA 13
Where to be Found: NW Baldur's Gate, Entar Silvershield Estate.

Comments: Skie is easily the hardest NPC to get in the whole Game. She can be found in the Silvershield Estate, in the NW area of Baldur's Gate, but will only join you if Eldoth is in the party, her "lover". If you talk to her without Eldoth in the party, she'll run away, screaming for the guards.

Her forced bondage with Eldoth is more a blessing than a curse, as Eldoth is a below-average NPC, and most likely will not be in your party (even if it's an Evil one). However, it opens up an interesting side-quest, and gives some nice banter. If Skie and Eldoth are in the party, there may be problems with Garrick and Shar-Teel, though both of them are scornfull towards Eldoth and not towards Missus Silvershield.

Skie herself is one of the more annoying NPCs. She is extremely naive of the outside world, and once on the road, she does nothing but complaining ("My feat hurt", "I broke a Nail", "I messed my Hair", "I've a cold", "I wanna go home"). It's rather tedious actually.

As a Thief, Skie has her statts spread around equally, with probably the idea of making her a Jack-O-All-Trades. This stays with an idea however, as all skills are simply too low to be effective enough. She can be save however, if you get her as soon as possible, around level 4-5 (though I can guarantee you; Doing Cloakwood (obligatory) around level 3-4 is HARD), as you will be forced to fight hordes of Spiders and Black Talon Elite (not to mention The Cloakwood Boss, Davaeorn)... not easy without Fireball or Dispell Magic.

Statwise, Skie is alright. Strength mostly is negligable, as the usual Thieving equipment is light, and Stealth/Invisibility with Backstab does LOTS of damage, even with Alora or Imoen. Dexterity is maxed out, which is very good (and a luxury not every NPC has), Constitution is more than decent, granting her many Hit Points, even more than Eldoth. Sadly, her intelligence is high, but too low to dual class her into something more worthy... (like a Mage), even with the Tome of Intelligence, but that's only a minor inconvenience.

As a party Member, Skie is an excellent Archer (but not as good are Coran, Shar-Teel or Kivan), but a below-average thief, and forcibly tied to an NPC you'd rather not have. I say avoid, though you will usually not take her anyway.

QUAYLE:
"Feel my amazing brain! Go on, TOUCH IT!"
Gender: Male
Race: Gnome
Class: Cleric/Illusionist
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Abilities: STR 8, DEX 15, CON 11, INT 17, WIS 10, CHA 6
Special: Invisibility Once a Day
Where to be found: Wyrm's Crossing, after you've cleared Cloakwood (Chapter 5)

Comments: Quayle is easily the most annoying NPC in Role-playing History (even Anomen looks sympathetic in comparisson). He's an extremely arrogant, whiny, vain and Egocentric personality that will be immedeately loather by everyone, Player and NPC alike. Quayle sees himself as Extremely Brilliant and SMART, but is extremely foolish. In fact, his Intelligence equals the one that all other mages (save Edwin) have, though that's still good. Quayle is usually dumped, because of his HORRIBLE stats and annoying persona. However, he's not that bad as an NPC.

First of all, he's the only NPC that can cast every spell in the game, except the Necromancy Arcane Spells (though he CAN cast Cure spells and Animate Dead). His Wisdom is very, very LOW for a Cleric, but Quayle is not a Cleric in practice; He's an Illusionist that can cast Divine Spells, at the cost of 50% of his Experience. A heavy toll, but not one to be underestimated. Quayle is versatile spell machine, throwing in a Fireball at one time, and then a Healing spell at the next. His Special ability, Invisibility, can be cast on other NPC (tested), so he can infact give your thief and instant Stealth during the heat of battle... and a backstab, if the thief succeeds in his attack. If used correctly, Quayle is an excellent supporting character.

However, some words of caution: Quayle is incredibly frail, and will fall easily. Make sure you have at least two Charges of Mirror Image memorized. Also, Quayle has a low Strength, and this, in combination with the mediocre Constitution, you may NEVER send him into the heat of battle, with a melee weapon. Just give him a Sling and some bullets and, with his decent dexterity, he will hit foes often enough... if he runs out of (Ranged) Offencive spells that is. Memorize Magic Missile, Chromatic Orb, Melf's Acid Arrow and Flame Arrow, and shower you enemy with offencive spells. Suddenly, he's not weak at all.

Also, do not use Quayle to talk to neutral NPCs. NEVER EVER. His Charisma is so low, that it will actually lower rewards from Quests, and may even cause Quest Givers to ignore you at all (same rule for all Characters with a Low Charisma)

As Said before, Quayle is disliked by every other NPC, because of his Arrogant Demeanor. He particularly sees Tiax, the Mad Cleric of Cyric, as extremely stupid, while Tiax sees Quayle as a Traitor and a Smartass. Both Gnomes will fight eachother if they endure eachother's company for too long.

Conclusion: Quayle is below average as an NPC, but he can be very usefull if given the chance... and when the sound is turned off

ELDOTH
"The First duty is life is to be as artificial as possible"
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Class: Bard
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Abilities: STR 16, DEX 12, CON 15, INT 13, WIS 10, CHA 16
Special: Create poisonous Arrows
Where to be found: Cloakwood Forest, Druid Enclave (eastern shore of the River)

Comments: Eldoth is a sleazy, cunning, artificial Slimeball, who will join your party after you agree to rescue his "lover" Skie. However, as soon as She's rescued, Eldoth will show his true colours, As he, as a Male Chauvinist, treats Skie exceptionally bad. He obviously doesn't care about Skie at all, as she's just "one out of many" lovers Eldoth has had. His obvious carelessness towards the naive Skie will result in clashes with both Garrick (a Romantic Womanizer) and Shar-Teel (a militant Feminist). While Garrick will defend Skie From Eldoth (though making sure Eldoth doesn't treat her as bad as he did before), Shar-Teel will simply attack Eldoth, and most likely killing him in the process.

Should you rescue Skie, Eldoth will use her to blackmail her Father, Duke Entar. This side-quest is reasonably lucrative, but WILL result in a serious loss of reputation. You now learn how Eldoth has survive the last couple of years; Wooing Rich Women for their money, and then departing without a trace (or fleeing their angry Fathers/Husbands).

Game-playwise, Eldoth is no more than Average; He's a Bard, who's only true asset is Lord, with a Strikingly low Dexterity and Intelligence (both at their minimum value). Both are problematic, as Low intelligence greatly limits Spellcasting, and Low Dexterity lowers Ranged Attacks and Pick Pockets. This may not sound bad, if Eldoth's special ability weren't to create poisonous arrows. Sadly it is, and now yer stuck with Special Biting Arrows, that can only be used by Eldoth, who can barely hit anything from a distance. His strength is decent, at least, and his Charisma WILL Yield the maximum rewards from Side-Quests (being the only Evil NPC to do so, as all others severly lack Charisma)

Overall, I would definately avoid Eldoth, unless you want Skie badly. No Evil Player in his right mind would take Eldoth, quite Frankly, as all of them will have Shar-Teel, who is tons better.

Just started one more attempt to complete BG1

Loved this game!  After Heroes 3 & 4, I played some Neverwinter Nights for a while.  Now, I went back to Baldur's Gate in the hopes of making it to the end.  This will be my third attempt.  I believe the furthest I had progressed was making it to the city of Baldur's Gate the first time.  Thanks for this nice thread! Good luck, Heroes!
