building movement

I think you should be able to build movement points. I explained more in AI turns near the end (http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?FID=5&TID=2532)
what do you think?

Hmmm, I don't know if it's such a good idea...it would immensly change your strategies, and it would really be easier....you walk your main hero up and down the map and not worry how to add units to his army, because you know that your speedy-gonzales hero back in the castle will deliver instantly fresh meat to him...and it's not realistic at all

actually..

you can already do that in HOMM 3 with town portal.  Also, it wouldn't be realistic at the start of the game, but if you had moved for a while, you might want more than one night to recooperate and then you could go farther the next day.  Anyway who said HoMM was realistic?

Realistic means acceptable...
Portals are acceptable...a hero running like hell over lands and seas without any means of transportations or magic and dragging hoards of monsters with him is not acceptable...at least not in my opinion...you have to turn it into a spell, or artifact, or at least a skill, but not something ordinary.

For once I agree with Vlad. I'm not so worried about how realistic that is, more that it's unbalancing. With town portal you still have to go home and return to where you want to go by walking. If you have a speedy hero zip up and deliver troops instantly, there is no drawback and you don't even need the spell.

I'd also worry about people just building up movement points, waiting for the enemy hero to leave his castle, and just zooming in and taking over.

as before said...

there would be a limit and it would keep on getting slower and slower.  Maybe what I said before was too much, but I think it might work.

Well, they're trowing out the Town Portal spells. THere won't be Town Portal spell in HOMM4. They described this spell as too powerful adn unbalancing. So why, when they head for better balance, they should add such option and unbalance the game again.

hmmm...

Well... the game will always be unbalanced and that is what is fun about it.  It is fun to find all the loopholes which make the game interesting. Maybe eliminate a few to make that tougher, but you shouldn't completely eliminate them. No loopholes = less fun and less of a bounus for having played longer and gotten more experience.

I disagree, lack of balance is what makes a game not fun. If a certain skill, castle, hero, monster, is much better then all others of the same type or level then everyone will use that, and not use the other ones. That results in much less fun because of much less variety and much fewer different tactics.

I understand that there can't be perfectly balanced game. I I don't imagine that heroes would be 100% balanced game. But such huge imbalances must be cut and trown out of the game.

Did you liked Eagle Eye, Scouting and similar skills in HOMM3? No? Well that's because the system of secondary skills was unbalanced. And they're trying now to balance all the things nice out. Of course that they can't predict everything and small unbalances will be left/overlooked. But when something is in really small proportions you can barely notice it. And small unbalances can be solved trough playing. And it can even add spice to the game.

But the huge unbalances don't add spice to the game. They ruin the game. Imagine one all powerful and unbalanced town with the best creatures in it, and 5 other towns weak in comparsion to the first one. Is that fun? Will it be fun when in MP game everybody chose that one town? No. That's what the huge unbalances are all about.

I am pretty sure...

Town Portal will be in Heroes 4, but it will be toned down somehow, DD and fly will be gone.  As far as building movement points, maybe a small bonus if you did not move the day before, but only carrying one day and not a whole lot.

Not sure, but I thought I read something somewhere about each army having its own speed, so maybe you would be able to go farther by yourself, but not so much with a slow army.

As far as I know, it's back as the order spell Town Gate, but only as the basic h3 version...

Town Gate and Town Portal

Back in the days of HOMM1 & HOMM2, before the magic schools and spell expertise were introduced to us, we had two versions of this spell.

The first one was Town Gate. It was lower level spell than it's biger brother Town Portal.

And you do remeber, Town Gate was teleporting you in the neares town, Town Portal let you choose the teleporting destination. And this was overpovering in HOMM3. In one day you were able to teleport trough various towns and collect armies or defend them.

Since the spell expertise is now gone again from the game, the spells are getting one and final version. So they decide now to include only the Town Gate, and to trow out the Town Portal.
