What The Heck Went Wrong?
Has anyone decided to write to 3do and get them to change the designs? I mean come on, what were they thinking? And what was their inspiration? Pokemon? Heres a list of all the creatures and whether they should be changed or not. Just a quick note - whats with all the purple on the haven guys?
Angel: Sword should be shorter and no glow. Very fake wings.
Ballista: No guy in the back - HOMM3 ballista was way better.
Bandit: Just fine to me.
Behemoth: I don't think it should look like an overgrown 100 year old monkey. Make it more ferocious.
Beholder: Real flaw. Looked better when it was a fleshy colour. And no bits on the end of the tentacle.
Berserker: Legs should be closer together. What is he a ballerina?
Black Dragon: Many have mentioned that they have pink eyes and its wings are too small. Well the wings should be bigger and it should be blood red and yellow eyes.
Bone Dragon: I have mentioned that it looked as if someone broke his front legs. They should be slender and straight.
Centaur: Mohawk man is outta town! And he should carry his spears in an oversized quiver.
Champion: Nothing but jousting stick should be shorter.
Crossbowmen: One of my favorites.
Crusader: Too open.
Cyclops: Not scary but ugly!! I liked the laser in HOMM2.
Devil: No pitchfork or leathery wings. Those legs look immobile.
Dragon Golem: It is not a magically animated object if someone is operating in the back. No man.
Dwarf: Plain and original.
Efreet: Matches his personality. Big and fiery.
Elf: What happened to male elfs?
Genie: Good.
Ghost: Better without the head-holding or green glow.
Gold Golem: I like the Egyptian look.
Halfling: A manakin coming to life. Change the head.
Harpy: Ugly as a butt! more like part woman, part winged monkey from wizard of oz!
Hydra: Like it.
Ice Demon: Too futuristic.
Imp: The pitchfork should be smaller and the imp bigger.
Leprechaun: Does it fit in the game?
Mage: Looks like it is wielding a lantern.
Mantis: Like the Leprechaun. Where does it go?
Mermaid: Fish tail is too thin and no green short hair. I like the triton though.
Minotaur: Not scary enough.
Monk: Always liked the monk.
Mummy: I liked it in HOMMIII but this one is overdone.
Naga: Red nose! But again i like the Egyptian style.
Nightmare: My absolute favorite!
Nomad: Hate the spotted horse. He should ride a camel. Nice jocks!
Ogre Magi: This reveals the magic side of an ogre but the other showed both sides of an ogre.
Orc: Insult to swines, boars, pigs and hogs. Horrible!
Peasant: So ugly you have to feel sorry for him.
Phoenix: Oh no my budgie is on fire! Wait no thats the new phoenix! Give it feathers the plucked turkey.
Pikeman: Normal, basic unit.
Pirate: It is great.
Satyr: Make the second one less hairy. He looks like he has had a severe hangover!
Sea Monster: Why did they have to put a sea angler into this? They belong at the bottom of the sea.
Skeleton: Great love the rusty look.
Sprite: Eurghh! Looks like it has spent its days in acid!
Squire: Another great creation.
Thunderbird: Pokeball go! Wheres the roc? 10 feathers at the tips of its wing. Then it has some kinda ectoplasmic stuff on it. Ugly.
Titan: Ive always liked Titans. And i like this one.
Troglodyte: Go frogman back to the swamps.
Troll: It was so flimsy that i thought it was a lowly goblin!
Unicorn: Get rid of the rainbow mane.
Vampire: Original and good.
Venom Spawn: Too bad the graphics are wasted on the blob.
Waspwort: And i thought it was a structure!
White Tiger: I like the non-mythology.
Wolf. Way too thin. This is not a greyhound.
Zombie: A female?! I like the bone revealance.
Tell me what you think of the graphics and if you know a place to send these, do tell me.

Surely once the game actually comes out, you'll like them a whole lot better. Static pictures never do a full animation justice. I've seen some really serious beholders in AD&D, that are just so way off the scale that those pink tentacle thingy's in Homm3 look like anorexic catwalk Beholders standing next to Arnold Schwarzenegger Beholders by comparison.
But a beholder is a beholder and everyone has their own interpretation of what a creature should look like. I think 3do should worry about other aspects of the game instead of complaining about how big a pitchfork is to an imp. That's just nitpicking in my opinion and does no good at all to the game itself. HoMM is a strategy game, not eye candy. The eye candy we're getting, tasteful or not, is leaps and bounds better than previous HoMM's so I'm pretty content to look at whatever they dish out to me.

I agree with shae, the creatures are an advancement from the previous game. Any new heroes game that comes will have diferent style and look to the previous one.
I think that the graphics get better and better, imptoving on style and color, texture etc etc...
Do not forget that the pic we are shown will be much smaller on the battlefield.
Then there the animations as well. For these static pics shown to us are just a taster of the final version.
I am goint to give my verdict for the creatures in the other thread and i can tell you that there are going to be high matks based on the style and quality of these creatures.
I used to think a beholder was the one like in D&D where they floated and lots of eye tentacles and a big fanged mouth dripping in green gore.
But i have realised that artists have there own version of how they see their creatures, so it is good to have variety and see there artistic skills put to good use.
This is what will make Heroes IV completely different from heroes III, as heroes III was to Heroes II and so forth.
Variety is the spice of life as they say.
So smile and be happy.

i also agree, shae,asive seen D&D beholder pics, as well as minotaur ones, and they look like theyve severely OD'd on Steroids... i mean, theyre much more muscular!
