As a matter of fact I did. I read them all...TWICE(Yes I'm insane, but it was such a long time between the two last books which came out that I had to read them all again to remember what had happened).

I'm reading a book called "Radical Democracy and the Internet" by Lincoln Dahlberg and Eugenia Siapera. One out of Seven books I'll have to read this year.

Final Fantasy VII fanfiction. Aeris/Sephiroth rapefic. The only Aeriseph fic where Seph is not OOC (out of character) lol.

When I was reading one where Sephiroth was kind and gentle, I nearly puked from overdose of pink sugar fluff

The current one is pretty harsh tho Sephy sure is creative with his little victim.

Is he dressing him/her all in black, dying his/her hair white, and forcing him/her to listen to My Chemical Romance?

Currently, I'm reading Stuff White People Like: A Definitive Guide to the Unique Taste of Millions by Christian Lander.  If you are white but remain confused about what you are supposed to like, I highly recommend it.

I am doing research for my essay: Did Globalisation begin with Columbus' discovery of the New World? (a fallacy in itself but never mind that)

Anyway I came across a pretty good book, I have not read an awful lot of it, but what little I have read so far is very interesting (it is called 'The Eastern origins of "Western" civilization'). As the title hints, it argues that the Western-centrist view that globalisation began in the 1500s with western expansion is false, it instead argues that it began much earlier and that it was the east, not the west that was the influencing force (i.e eastern technology and eastern mercantilism adopted by the west)

I might have to double check this material, the author is a verified academic as is the publisher and he is endorsed by my uni, but what I'm reading is very new to me.

Stuff like this:

Extract from the Qur'an, seriously if I was given this extract and asked which religion I'd associate it with, I'd shamefully would have to resort to guessing Judaism (>.>.

Lol. It's like reading "the children movie reviews from Ayn Rand" parody thing, except it's  more shallow, plus it's real. But I guess, he was just a kid in 2008.

The word (d)jihad would be good clue not to do that. It has many meanings all boiling down to religious duty, not just war against infidels.

Right now I'm reading Peter F. Hamilton's Night's Dawn trilogy. It's quite an enjoyable read, a space opera that's kind of a mash of Star Wars and Walking Dead. Not perfect (it's got some prose issues and at times the amount of characters and settings makes things confusing) but it's big (over 3000 pages), boisterous, and ****ing fun as hell.

Recommend it if you're looking for some entertaining science fiction.

I've read his "Pandora's Star" and "Judas Unchained" but I'm not very impressed. Too much time spent on some characters' unimportant or downright boring personal lives, too many characters in general (some of which not very believable or worth remembering), too much "a bunch of heroes save the humankind after millions of expendable peasants have died" and initially intriguing but later somewhat trivial plot. Not really bad overall but I have no urge to re-read any of them.

I'm currently reading China Miéville's "Railsea". Not as good as "Perdido Street Station" but still an interesting read. Not recommended for the deluded anti-Forge minds.

So Mieville writes a book where the heroes "join train-captain Abacat Naphi's hunt for her nemesis Mocker-Jack, a giant burrowing "moldywarpe" mole." LOL. Sounds like reading good ol' Melville one more time is a better idea.

Think Moby-Dick in a steampunk fantasy world (you'll know if you've read something from the guy before) with a vast railway network instead of sea and the usual unusual stuff from Miéville and you have the the book.

While gazing at the shelves here at my parents, I came upon this book called Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman. I am currently givng it a go and it seems interesting, to sum the core idea up a little, this is from the introduction:

Historians of science have often noted that at any given time scholars in a particular field tend to share basic assumptions about their subject. Social scientists are no exception; they rely on a view of human nature that provides the background of most discussions of specific behaviors but is rarely questioned. Social scientists in the 1970's broadly accepted two ideas about human nature. First, people are generally rational, and their thinking is normally sound. Second, emotions such as fear, affection and hatred explain most of the occasions on which people depart from rationality. Our article challenged both assumptions without discussing them directly. We documented systematic errors in the thinking of normal people, and we traced these errors to the design of the machinery of cognition rather than to the corruption of thought by emotion.

Of course, the book is not about how we are in fact totally irrational. It is a study on how intuiton based on subconsciously "calculated" statistics fails big time in many cases and how that has great effect on our decisions, at least as of now, I'm in the beginning.

I am reading two books simultaneously.

After reading mostly pulp fiction for the past two years, I started Narcissus and Goldmund by Herman Hesse after I was given the book by a friend. I am not far enough to grasp the full scope of the book, but I read enough to greatly appreciate Hessse's style and ability to  delve in the human spirit.

The second book is Before They Are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie. This is the second novel in the First Law fantasy trilogy. Ijust started, but if it is half the book The Blade Itself was, I will enjoy it tremendously. I was pleasantly surprised by Abercrombie's ability to write, and he has certainly won me as his loyal reader.

I tried reading Preston's "Relic" lately. Meh... so that was actually made into a movie? holy hell, and I thought Rowling writes bad books.

Preston is my new anti-hero of novel writing.

You mean villain, an anti-hero is not an antagonist, he's still the hero, only he doesnt have the typical good traits of a classical hero. For example, Dirty Harry is a anti-hero.
