Am I the only one that likes the implications that Europe is Middle Earth?

In a way it's a bit like Europe, but I find Thedas more in line with Europe.

Thedas is heavily implied as Europe, I mean Orlais and Ferelden are England and France, and the hundred years of occupation is a switched up version of Henry V's occupation of France (and his descendants) during the 100years. That combined with the papacy and the "Ottoman"/eastern invaders. A lot of corrolations can be made, just a brief overlook at just some of them.
Also, I kinda hate the silmarillion for portraying the Elves as such greedy aholes.

Also Antiva is very much Spain/Portugal of 16-17th century. Tevinter Imperium based on its latinization must be the Roman Empire. The Qun is sort of a subtle reference to Quran (as in its a way of life as much as religion).
Also the Frostback Basin and the Avvar are as Scandinavian as possible (with a hint of scottish) 
It's like a doubly inverted version.

Thedas is heavily inspired by Europe. Middle-earth is implied to be Europe as in it is the same continent on the same planet.

The Silmarils are supposed to be gems shining with the light of the two trees of Valinor, they are meant to be the most precious things in the world, as that light was extinguished by Morgoth and Ungolianth, it isn't surprising to see that Feanor and sons decided to do whatever they could do to recover them...
And the Nauglamir, well, in the original iteration was made from cursed gold while in the Silmarillion was taken by betrayal, so...
To be honest I kind of like it this way...
Besides, in the Forgotten Tales the Noldor are actually more greedy than in the Silmarillion, you can also see how he changed the dwarves from little greedy and evil abominations to the sons of Aule.
Also, did you know he made a story regarding middle of earth of a certain Aelfwine of England?

I recently finished Dan Simmons' "The Terror". A very good read in general, despite a few flaws. I have a soft spot for stories which revolve around survival in inhospitable environments so the book didn't have to do much to grab me. It certainly has other virtues too.

very interesting if you enjoy ancient Greek, Roman, and Jewish history or just history in general.
