See, not all immigrants are used for physical labour. Far, far from that. Western countries have huge amounts of specialists who are immigrants. What do you think international scholarships are for? Of course, there are also less skilled individuals which also seek their place under the Western sun, and perhaps they are the problem (but it's better for some to at least be treated as a problem than not to be treated at all, like in their home countries). But a lot of talented young people who migrate from less developed countries (namely Eastern Europe) are a great source of intellectual income of the West. And it's been like that for the last 50 years or so. Not to speak about all the intellectual elite from Germany, France etcetera that fled during WW2 and similar.

So immigration is, as everything in politics, both good and bad.

My family and I emigrated from Russia. So?

As for the rest of what you said, that's what I meant to say. The kinds of immigrants that you described are absolutely no problem. But ones that just leech of off welfare are.

Nothing, it just seemed to me, from a neutral point of view, that you owned yourself.

But ok, I get it, you don't mean all immigrants when you demean them. Only the poor ones.

My family wasn't exactly rich when we moved here. I'm not against immigration in general, or immigration of poor people, I'm against the permanent settlement of unskilled immigrants (I'm fine with guest worker programs).

It happens sadly. But those things don't happen without the needed doses (plural of Dosis ) of Manipulation, Misunderstanding and Zeal.

I agree with Mvassilev btw.

I myself live in the suburbs of Antwerp, where a lot of immigrants live as well (though not in the meighbourhood of my house). When I enter a neighbourhood where a lot of immigrants live (in Antwerp, most are Morroccan or Turkish) you see that most of them don't have jobs, don't speak our language, don't carry our clothes, don't act like us. To some people this is insulting. Insulting or not, these differences create a barrier between the allochtonuous and the autochtonuous population. I myself don't fancy the most of them either, but it's pointless to exile all of them  (like Jormungand said), as most of them actually DO adapt and contribute to society. However, you must understand that the Morroccan poulation contributes significantly less to society than, let's say, the Jewish or the Serbian Immigrants. In most cases the muslim population refuses to adapt or contribute to society (and sometimes both). They cling on their customs and demand that their believes and customs are toletated, if not executed in pulic. This is what is called "islamization", something most Antwerpians fear. (a feeling that has increased since the Terrorist attacks on London and Madrid)
Between 2001-2006 the feeling was strong, but presently, due to the communotairy squabbles between Flemings and Walloons, these feeling have faded into obscurity...

We have around 10% immigrants here in germany (7.5 million). 2 million of them are turkish people. I can see a lot of turkish who don't speak german at all (mostly the elder ones), I can see a lot of turkish who drive luxury cars where I am asking myself "How the f*** can they afford such a car...what am I doing wrong?" (). I can see a lot of turkish who just seem to hang around, don't work at all, maybe sell drugs or do other crimes like illegal bets etc...
I really ask myself sometimes, "Why do we allow them to stay here?". Mostly because they were born here. Or maybe just because we germans are doing hard in treating foreign persons "again"..

But you know what? I can see a lot of german people hanging around, doing nothing, maybe dealing drugs, stealing cars, just let the government pay for their life ("Hartz IV") and treat older people without any respect.
I really ask myself sometimes, "Why do we allow them to stay here?". Mostly because they were born here.

On the other hand, I have a lots of turkish friends, who work a lot, who speak german fluently, who pay their taxes, who treat their wifes and children very nicely. They don't "show" their islam culture every second on the street, but live it in their home, in their mosque. To each their own.
I would prefer to have such a guy as neighbor than the german guy I described above....

Damn' Angelito, What can I say. I agree fully on that, but when a foreigner hangs around, deals, etc..., he's noticed more often by the population than for example a Belgian (or someone who looks like a Belgian). But DO note that the Turkish population that can't speak German/Dutch/French, ISN'T born in Belgium at all. I have nothing against them personally though, and i infact am not annoyed by seeing a foreighner in his typical clothes, but to me it's a matter of principle. If you come here, adapt or leave, simple as that.

In Sweden we have more immigrants from Iraq in ONE town then in the whole United States (and swedish towns are not very big compared to cities and towns in other parts of the world).

Anyway in my country the immigrants are getting more and more successful and are moving to the better neighbourhoods (lol spelling) and are getting really nice cars etc
I think its pretty strange, but I have heard that they help eachother very much.

I have no probem with immigrants except those (and they are many) that say: "Omg omg omg RACIST RACIST you are so RACIST OMG OMG you suck you are RACIST" and those really rare immigrants that cant respect our society and keep doing weird rituals (there was a guy who MURDERED his daugther for being in love with a swedish guy he didnt like some time ago... -.- ).

It's the flemish national anthem... Not that there's anything wrong with that...

BUT the people responding to that blog... and those quote wars( let's just say that, at the least, they are misinformed and, at the most, neo-nazi, sexist, disrespectful, offending and other words along those lines)

I'm really afraid of the flemish youth.

Leterme had to retire after his Share in the Fortisgate scandall.

Fortis, one of Belgium's biggest banks, had suffered greatly from the Financial crisis. Leterme, and the Minister of Finances, Didier Reynders sold the Insurrance Company Fortis, Fortis Bank and the Fortis Holding to the Netherlands, the belgian State and the French bank BNP Paribas respectively, narrowly saving Fortis from Bankruptcy.

However, the value of the Shares had plummetted downward, infuriating the Shareholders. They sued the State, claiming the Sell was Illegal, and should have been made with the Blessing of the Shareholders, which hadn't happened.

They went to court twice.

The first time, the Court sided with the Government, but the Second time the Court agreed with the Shareholders' demands, and disbanded the Agreement between Leterme and BNP Paribas.

The State protested against the verdict and asked the process to be redone.

While preparation for that process took plce, it turned out that Leterme had been lobbying the Magistrates to get a verdict favourable for himself (after all, the Fortis affair was the only thing his governemt had accomplished after 9 months of governing).

His Lobbying turned out to be illegal, and he was forced to resign.

EXIT Leterme.
