let's take a wild guess. Inferno and... haven. imagine the overpowered ballista of vittirio combined with the fireballs from deleb!
but since this probably is wrong I have to say that Academy with the dungeon. the great knowledge of the wizards combined with the spellpower of the warlocks. and a good mix with the creatures s good to. and the library in the wizard town adds a few spells to the warlock. and if we give artifacts to the dungeon creatures they become even better.

This may sound abit weird about 2 factions but I say Dwarfs and elves... Why? Think about their ultimate abilitys.. Elven luck, and u always have luck rolled on! Dwarven luck and Enemy has always bad luck rolled on! See u're unbeatable! But realisticly I have never achiaved the ultimate abilities whithout using the map editor ...

I say Haven and Academy. Haven has terrific shooters, and so does Academy. Haven has defensive casters (well, caster) and Academy has offensive casters. They both have heavy-hitting Tier 6's, and incredibly strong Tier 7's. They have fast moving flyers that can jump over units and screw them over. They have tanks for Tier 2's. Tier one's an offense/defense lineup. The Wizard has the brains, and the Knight has the Brawn. Unstoppable Charge is great fun, and Arcane Omnisciense turns fun into slaughter.

sorry for taking so long to answer, but NiKitA got the right answer with her second guess(barbarian and necro).
the barbarian can amass many many goblins(10000), and the necromancer can convert these into a truly formidable army. this army will of course be led by the barbarian, who focuses on warrior skills such as attack, defense, and luck. The key magical weakness of barbarians, dark, is taken out of commission because he is leading the undead, and other magical weaknesses can be offset by shatter magic skills.
dungeon and haven and dungeon and dwarves are also very very good, but i do not think they will be able to match the huge army led by a powerful barbarian.

Power of dragons - it gives your heroes +4 to all primary skills, +6-7 skills from parts, abot +25% initiative to all yours troops from parts, +5 atk. and def. and +20 hit points to your seven level monsters, and give one 7 lvl monster in your armee for free daily.
So you will get big skill bonuses, great initiative and a lots of enhanced 7 lvl monsters.

But its never generated to any map.And its not that powerfull.I got to say armor of the forgotten hero (28k gold,20% magic resistance and +2 to ALL primary stats).Also to anyone who says tear of asha (its structure gives the huge bonusses, not the artifact itself).

in this case i would like to say that pendant of mastery is one of the best for me. it gives you the ultimate ability if you got the expert that means. and we all lnow how god ultimate necromancy or gating is. plus o think it is the one you get the most money from.

Well getting the ultimate gating is especcially wicked! ( archdevils gating more archdevils which is summoning pitlord that also gates for more pitlords and U own the battle!) But if you dont have the skill in expert its useless , and forexample for heaven , naaaaaah armor of forbidden hero is a lot more useful, so I would say this most important artefact depends on your castle... I say staff of netherworld is a difference maker as well! -%20 initiative + mass slow + mass haste and u rule the initiative bar

nah for light factions ring of the unrependant is the best. (this is not my real opinion just a joke my real opinion is the FIRST one about pendant of mastery in this thread.

Well I'm not sure but I say Spectre... As they consume enemy mana , and resurrection is actually a spell it prevents the phoenix from ressurrecting?
