For me id doesn't matter whath's the name, Nix or else, just let the 1.1 realese, and about other versions (2.0, 3.0 and so on) i think they won't come out so fast... since the project is from 2008.

BTW. does there is avaliable version without movies?? (maybe faster relese)

No.

Nix - ok. Haspid and Assida - I think they actually could be changed for like, e.g., Sea Monster and Zephyr.

There is a decision about it. Probably there won't be such a version.

Not all translations have to be direct.

Sometimes, if there's a better sounding alternative, you should take that instead.

A translation has to have the meaning of an original text. The kraken is commonly associated with a giant squid - not a crocodilish humanoid. It's like if you want to name Gargantuan from HIV, e.g., a Ziz. It just can't work out.

Why did we translate a bull-like creature into the Gorgon?

Thing is that the Gorgon in Heroes is the Dungeons and Dragons equivalent, not the original one.
You have to ask Gary Gygax for that. He is dead though.

Then why not name it Leviathan?

Sounds cool, fits the describtion. Besides, this is an original universe, do we have to Mythology Nazi?

It's not about mythology, it's about what does people think about when they hear "kraken" or "leviathan". A gorgon is not so common name, so it could be used as a name of a bull and no one actually have complained. Leviathan is actually a very popular word - almost everyone would think about a big water monster similar to snake instead of a crocodile man.

(maybe my example with gargantuan and ziz wasn't very good)

Oh, well, I where refering to the Tier 7 unit, not the Nix. Tier 7 Upgraded could easily be named Leviathan.

Only because it will cause difference between Russian and English names.

Let me get this straight:
Russian names should be appropiate for Russian. English names should be appropiate for English.

Therefore, slight changes in translation should be always welcomed as far as they sound good for PLAYERS. Especially if you say we have to play with Ostriches and Vipers.

I kinda agree with Hobbit.

OxFEA, no offense but I find it kinda unfair for the Russian team to decide how the units will be called in English. Maybe you should let that to the English (or should I say international?) fans to decide. (Of course if the translation makes sense, like Hobbit's suggestion to rename the Ayssid (???) to Zephyr)

Not to mention that the Russian translation of the original units is not exact and direct. Dwarves are called Gnomes and Halflings are called Hobbits in Russian version of Heroes 3 AFAIK.

True in every sense, but I'm just giving a suggestion. I guess it won't hurt anyone.

Russians have excellent english speakers, Aleee, Xel and others. Although the names do not seems to me important, regardless the complexity of what they achieved, it should be very easy to release a text file outside the lods where every fan can change the names to please himself. Also it is their mod, thus it looks weird to argue about fair or unfair.
