So reading this thread below with google translate (not 100% understandable to me):

http://forum.df2.ru/index.php?s=7643298363c39a485b658cb74a539b4d&showtopic=29815

They seem to talk about the possibility of having some in-game options that could possibly ban towns (or maybe just new towns/Forge), yes?

Anyhow, what about the possibility to use a launcher program (like HD) to ban a town with, so that it could be done outside the game? Different packages to choice from. Could that possibility be a simpler solution?

Should it be a choice through the HotA installer?

So it'd be like, HotA expansion 1 - cove town, HotA expansion 2 - forge town. And you could select both or not.

I'm just interested in what is possibly thought about this.

Unrelated:

The WoG orc has actually grown on me. I initially didn't like that the original orc was replaced, but it's a considered change, I feel, now. Maybe there was too much green before in the lineup, and the goblin/orc does maybe look too much the same. Besides a classic orc (pig/boar) is refleshing than a standard green orc. I still feel the WoG pikeman is off. There's some proportions off between it and the other castle creatures. I wonder why they choose to replace him, the reasons behind it (Yes, changing him back is easy enough, of course).

Maybe there will be possibility to ban town in map editor or rmg template (for the rmg template there is a possibility of original game, but it may be improved).

Those are initially HotA orcs and pikemen, not WoG. Personally I don't like new pikemen, but I don't think old images will be returned.

Okay, sounds interresting. Thanks sav. And credits to HotA for those models, not WoG then.

Orcs as depicted in the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual (1977)

Much more interresting than mainstream, green orcs, I think.

Just wanted to share this.

Edit (unrelated):

Suggestion for HotA: An option to add magical terrain to random generated maps, would be kinda cool, I think.

If they should choose to use the map editor so that it would be possible to ban a town completely then there's a few issues that'll have to be addressed.

1.

You cannot choose a custom template generating a random map through the standard map editor.

If you could choose a custom template when generating a map, that'd be great.

2.

You cannot choose your starting town in the lobby. You actually have to edit the map yourself. That's not good as you have to look at the map.

If you could choose a town for a specific colour when generating a map, that'd be great.

I don't actually mind using the map editor to manually to ban a town, if possible, as I only play on LAN with friends (we don't cheat), and it is possible to generate a random map with the map editor without actually looking at the adventure map - if you just minimize the the window correctly.

I am just talking here, but, I suppose a better way would be to have some sort of launcher program interacting with a custom map editor, though, sorta like the HD launcher, if that's even a viable option. This could potentially add some additional options for making random maps, I suppose. Like, banning artifacts or such things.

Anyhow, I'm interested in what they'll come up with (if anything at all) about the possibility to ban a town(s) and the implementation there of. Also, is ERA - or perhaps an alternative/modified system with full HD support - still on the table?

Green orcs from HoMM3 also have "pig noses", but it's relatively difficult to observe.

I see, yes very hard indeed. The tusks gives it a clear boar personality.

I really love that HotA is making the sea more rich with new objects. It was really needed, all those Sirens/mermaids.

I have some suggestions:

Add lighthouse, whirlpool, cover of darkness to random generated maps.

These are really, really cool objects that are not used. If not wanted, then please consider at least making these objects active - but disabled on all terrain - so that you yourself can simple add them to be generated on whatever terrain you like with 'object.txt'. I'd be very happy to see this done. I think the generate frequency for these particular objects should be few, like cartographers. Cover of darkness should maybe not be guarded.

Also, random SoD maps doesn't generate any kelp at all. Rock/reef only at sea borders. I think maybe that these objects would add more life to the sea if placed in open waters, too?

One more thing, I noticed that the random generator doesn't generate any sea objects, at all, if multiple islands are really close to each other. So if no open sea, only big rivers. It might be cool to see some changes to this, if possible.

Has team HotA thought about replacing some of the neutral monsters? They are generally quite ugly compared to the non-neutral monsters, I think. Like Enchanters, Mommies, Nomads. The dragons are mostly fine, maybe besides the fiery dragon. It's kinda like how ugly the campaign hero portraits are compared to the MP hero portraits.

You mean HotA team, right?

PS: Personally I think AB neutral creatures are fine

Horn of the Abyss Multiplayer MAC

Hey guys,

I really need your help.  I have ported Horn of the Abyss through Wineskin on my Macbook Air (MAC).  I am able to play single player completely fine.  However, whenever I try to play Multiplayer with my friends via TCP/IP, we can never get it to work.  We are all using routers, which I know hides your true IP.  However, we have created a network on Hamachi and are using the IP given in Hamachi.  Here is what we have done/tried so far:

-Run directplay in winetricks
-Gathered IP of the host from Hamachi network
-Host is able to create game and sits in lobby waiting for others to join
-Person joining goes to TCP/IP and types in the IP and password, but is never able to join the game, and the hourglass just keeps sitting there until the game crashes out.

I can provide the CRASH log to anybody who is able to understand that stuff.

Also, if there are other ways to play (GameRanger, etc.) that are successful with HotA, if somebody could please let me know I would be much obliged.

Thank you for your help!!

Okay, I figured out the problem.  In Hamachi, you need to go to preferences, settings, and disable encryption.  My friend and I have now flawlessly played HotA via TCP-IP.  Wow, only took us a few years to figure out how to do this

Hi guys!

I like this project a lot. And as the end of year comes closer day by day I would like to ask if you're planning to release the next version on Silvester new year (or in January) as usuall ?

And another question which keeps me awake before I to sleep, are you going to implement any of those neutrals you already made long time ago ? Are they updated to your standards ? Were those scraped and deleted ? Are you releasing any neutrals in the next version ?

Thanks for reply and sorry for my English.

Best regards.

Horn of the Abyss (English)

Hey All,

Does anybody know when the English version (1.3) will be released?  Or a version (2.0) with a new town?  Also, are there any new artifacts/spells in HotA 1.2?  I thought I recognized a new spell, but may have just been a new graphic.  It took my swashbucklers stack down from 40 units to 1.  Weird green and blue circle erupted.

Afaik, 1.3 should be released before new year, (well 31 dec 23:59 still counts as "before"). Plans were to release it on both russian and english.

Anyway, that's great news, looking forward to it
