Despite its more explicit name, I've always viewed this as being a nebulous Heroes III modding forum, whereas the Library comes across as a more puristic shrine to the main, unaltered game. I'm not convinced that Library-only posters would be as welcoming of or interested in HotA, especially since it will supposedly support WoG's mechanics in the future (be it in two months or two decades).

Furthermore, I don't really mind if there are hate messages about the concepts behind WoG or HotA, as long as they stay respectful to other posters and the developers' hard work. I happen to agree with Darko on his aesthetics point for instance - I love WoG, but have never much liked the objects it uses which were ripped from other games without permission.

No need to hate or separate anything, just play what you want. Currently H3 mods have well enough to offer.

Truest post here.
See someone who hates what you like? Completely ignore him, after all it's his decision.

On topic: As I was lurking through df2, I found something interesting. Is it just me or the HOTA team tries to add a new landfield for Conflux?

I saw that too. My knowledge of russian is not advanced enough though, so I couldn't figure out exactly what the thread was about. Maybe someone who speaks fluent russian can tell us?

We all know the history of Conflux. It's evident that this town lacks many features, not to mention the fact that it's completely unbalanced.
Among those things that Conflux has never had is "its own" terrain (as snow, dirt or grass which is btw used as a "native" one for Conflux).

A new terrain was suggested specially for Conflux. There are 8 pages of discussion and no official concept. Mostly because the discussion is still ongoing. This is a good idea but nothing is yet decided: name, color, palette, texture. You can use google translator which usually allows you to catch the meaning, after that you can join the discussion here, I'm sure Docent Picolan and others review this topic from time to time, though rarely post anything.

Yeah, It was about time for the towns to start evolving. Conflux is definitively an unfinished story, as all of the Heroes is. It is always an unfinished story, and should always continue evolving. The HoA team is doing it just the right way. It's all about doing it professionally both from the aesthetics side, both from the programing side. Slava did a great job breaking the ice, and did a remarkable job on the programing side, but definitively lacked someone like Alexander to fill in. I really like what he is doing both with the new units, both remodeling the old ones (fantastic). For ex. the orcs are finally looking how they should have from the beginning, also - the pikemen are more realistic this time, not looking as 15-year old boy models with anorexia If progress continues this way, and people stop dividing in clans, then there is really a bright future for Heroes, and we should all keep an open mind for innovations, but incremental, not radical!

If you're using Mozilla, just go to -> Tools/Options/Content and try adding language options or Character encoding under Content/Fonts/Advanced

If you where meaning the game (HoA), you must wait for the translation (or install Heroes in Russian)

Comparing HotA to WoG is wrong way. They are different. HotA adds nice graphics and a new town, WoG cares about new modding ways and it achieved pretty well its task. Thus I don't think Slava missed this or that, he had the team he needed and he reached his goal.

If one can say Wog graphics are not perfect, why not say also that HotA is played using the same old way, same editor flaws, same game flaws, same flawed balance between magic and might, same bugs and same uber spells which can always win a battle. I know it wasn't their goal, so I will not complain about.

I totally agree, that is why they should merge together, so that everyone has a piece of the cake. This counts only if the best of the two would be taken, the design phylosophy of HotA, and a platform that would enable endless possibilities, either WoG, either VCMI, either something third, just that it gives a concrete and bug free whole.

We are currently starting to miss the whole point of this topic... Love it or hate it WoG is what it was meant to be. Let us focus more on HotA rather on differences between two different things. What do we want to see next in HotA? What other things shall make the "oficcial expansion" idea more complete? I personaly find Cathedral would make a most anticipated addition! A little more of the Wh40k bipolarism and gruesomeness is always nice!! ;-)

Shall we begin?

I really don't know why there is disccusion between WoG and HotA.
This version of HotA is based on SOD..so its like a new add on(new town..creatures,etc),ok, story end.
In the future, newer versions will be based on WoG.So you will have to install WoG.
And I don't see the problem here..If you don't like the WoG(add on..tool..call it however you like it),like I don't (it a mather of taste, can't discuss this. It's like saying action movies are better than comedy..it is a mather of taste I say it again) then after installing the WoG...turn of all options(imagine...you can really do that) and you still have a "plain SoD" with newer versions of HotA to play.
So the only difference will be that you will have to lose 5 min to install WoG..everything else stays the same..if you know what i mean.

And I want to thank the HotA team for their great job...thank you guys for "resurrecting" this great game!

In case someone hasn't seen these already, some fantastic screenshots... link

@Salamandre, do you think they will be able to achieve a stable game with all these additions (in the end),with just using ERA/WoG's scripts or will it eventually require to transfer the whole thing to a completely new platform? (eventually)

The answer is: download and install russian fonts by unpacking the following archive to game folder:

Missed the HotA download

Sorry for a rather silly request, but I seem to have been too slow with downloading the current HotA release from the posted link. The .exe file is no longer there. Is there an alternative link for it I can use? Or is the installer file no longer available?
I'm aware of the fact that it's only in Russian for now, but I wish to check it out none the less.

Thanks a heap! Cheers.
