Under OS X I still play Super Mario 3, there's an emulator called SNES 9, and I'm guessing if it is available for Mac there is a Windows version. Usually emulators suck but not when it comes to playing Mario under SNES 9.

Doesn't help if his games are missing. 
He needs to be legally in possession to make roms for those legal.
