Idiot say what?

I won't sit here and lie to you and tell you that I have perfect grammar.  I don't.  Neither do you. Which is why, when I go back into things I've written and find egregious errors, I know that you've perhaps caught my error, snickered at it and forgiven me.

There is a growing trend, however, which I find quite disturbing.  It seems that the younger generation, typically 12 to 25-year-olds, are crafting an entirely new language.  It appears to be English in some form, but I'll let you decide what the hell it is.  As an example, I give you a post I came across this morning:

.x. DiS Is mA MaN, tHiS Is tHe bAbYbOi i aVe mRe lOvE Fo'!! Iv bIn wIf iM A Yr nD In tHe pAsT Yr wE AvE Ad sUmUpS Nd dWnS, bT I GuEsS DaTs wAt gOt uS ThReW ThE FiRsT Yr, EvErYdAy i rElIzE I LoVe dIs mRe dEn i eVa aVe dOnE, nD I WoNt dIs fEeLiN 2 StAy! EvErYdAy i tInK Ov iM DeRe eNt mIn oR A MoMeNt dAt e eNt oN Ma mInD, wOnDeRiN WoT E Is dOiN, wErE E Is nD… (I've deleted the rest so as to not send you away screaming)

WHAT.  THE.  HELL???

I can't even read that!  When I try to read it, my brain wants to explode!

Is it really so hard to write 'my'?  It's now become 'ma'?  For Pete's sake, it's the same number of letters, you're not saving yourself any time!

I type about 40 - 50 words per minute.  If I were to slaughter the language just to look 'cool', it would take up more time than I'm willing to give up.  Yet people are doing this every day.  For what?  To come across as an uneducated, unintelligent and stylistically impaired moron?  Do you hand in papers in school or college like this?

I'll abbreviate once in a while if I'm chatting on an IM.  I'll also alter those abbreviations depending upon who I'm talking to so as to convey my point to them without confusion.  When I post, I am typically writing to send out a message of some kind. It could be a message about something as stupid as what one of my cats did yesterday, but I still want to be effective in allowing anyone who  reads what I am writing to understand what I'm saying.  If I massacre the language, people won't read it because they don't want to have to decipher what I'm writing.

What are your thoughts on this?  When you see 'writing' like that above, do you pass that individual off as imbecile?

Nope.  It makes me want to learn their language so I can use it and show I can be just as cool as the kids.

Actual people actually write like that? I have never bumped into someone in the internet who seriously writes like this. I find it hard to believe that someone would write like that into a blog or a forum. Maybe occasionally in a chatroom, but not constantly. That is just some kind of street talk turned into text. I believe that people who really write like that are just an "urban" legend. Please correct me if I have mistaken.

Yep. Some people really DO write like that.
This was a real person and their whole post was like that.
I could say that the one post was an isolated incident, maybe them just screwing around...but sadly, it wasn't.
ALL their posts were like that. Every single one.
Thank the Gods and powers that be that there weren't too many of them, otherwise my eyes would likely have bled.

MMORPGS, Weblogs, myspace, any other profile sites....

Kids think it makes them look cool. That seems be a trend the past few years that I have grown to loath: The apparent NORM that you need to act tough, macho, and arrogant, with an attitude to match. In my opinion, parents keep forgetting to teach their kids some good values, such as modesty.

You find that kind of speech (along with snowloads of sparkly stars and DollZ pics and other flashy celebrity flash crap) mostly on profiles belonging to those deeply into the RnB scene

We had it a few years ago and it has disappeared, like every trend.

So could I safely say that you don't care for the MMORPG's?

Well Moon, it doesn't make them look cool in the least, if I feel like I need a translator to read something, that's not ever good. I can't imagine what prospective employers might think as they attempt to read that garbage.
Don't even get me stated with the tough, macho...read that: thug ghetto attitudes that usually accompany that manner of writing. if you thought that one was sucky I should copy and paste the "I'm grown *****" post that had me rolling out of my chair in hysterical laughter.
I've not forgotten how to teach my kidlings manners, or values. Neither one of my kids are online and even if they were, any profile would be watchdogged by me. Furthermore, either one of them talk to me like that in any way shape or fashion, we'd have a serious problem. LOL

Well Genie, we could all hope for the best. *snorts* But doesn't it seem like the minute one of these awful wanna-be-languages go away, another comes back that is far worse? *ugh* LOL

Leet (written 31337, 1337, L337, 13370rz, and l33t), or Leetspeak, used primarily on the Internet, uses various combinations of ASCII characters to replace Latinate letters. The term is derived from the word "elite", and the usage it describes is a specialized form of symbolic writing. Different dialects of leet are found on different online forums.

So a delusion of being elite more or less I think it was Miru that thought it cool because other people cannot read it. The truth is that it's not hard to read as much as it is annoying

I was a mod last time you checked but you disappeared again and my hcm eventually expired. Seems you were not idle, new threads pop up every time you return

hahaha

if you think english can be destroyed by a couple of mistyped/l33t/ebonic words, wRiTteN iN a StRanGe WaY, you obviously don't know what LANGUAGE DEFILEMENT is Because in polish, pink fluffy people use astonishing diminutives, random letters extended to oblivion "bloggaaaaaaaaaaasqqqqqqa", add emoticons after every word and they include many improperly written english words in their texts.. A nightmare to see.

sample

You don't have to understand polish to see the massacre

there are no words containing "q" letter in polish, mind you.
