Dumbledore has a horcrux destroying sword and all i saw from the movies, gandalf had to say aloud his spells before they happened.
Dumbledore just thinks of them and *Poof* gandalf turns into a frog before he can say much more than "MINT HUMBUG!"

BTW a wand is much more maneuverable than a staff, thus even faster spells.

Dubledore would outmagic gandalf in a fight, plus Dumby gots a whole school of wizards to back him up, gandalf only gots his puny fellowship.

(Note: i wrote each gandalf in small letters to picture my respect to him compared to Dumbledore.)

Really, poor Gandalf. Gandalf the grey was killed by Balins Bane, Dumbledore got enough up his sleezes to take out a country if he wanted to.

Tough call ... I'm positive McGonagall would pawn them both, but in that fight, my vote has to go for Dumbledore. He does to have more tricks up his sleave than he readily gives away.

But he may use it to split Dumbledores head in too (in the Shaolin way!) + he has a sword and lighting shield.

Thought I definately like Dumbledore more than Gandalf, in a Deathmatch, it would definately be Gandalf.

Why? Allow me to make this little comparisson

Gandalf slays a whole Balrog on is own, with a Magic Sword, but is mortally wound and dies (yet he is reincarnated)

Dumbledore breaks a dirty, shabby ring, with a Magic Sword, but is mortally wounded and dies. (yet he is not reincarnated)

power doesn't determine your reincarnation, god does

I think many of you are thinking of this as a popularity/ what they did or didnt do contest.

Gandalf takes much longer than Dumbledore to cast a spell so Gandalf dies instantly from avada kadavra, and he cant do **** about it

Gandalf would have decapitated Snape before he could cast it

but anyway, the fact that Dumbledore is not perfect, and makes loads of mistakes, showing that he too is a mere human, just makes him likeable. Gandalf is just... a flat character, with no personality, (except the usual mysteriously coded phrase), whereas Dumbledore is a round one.

So, I like Dumbledore more, but truly, in a duel, Gandalf would win, no doubt.

Gandalf had telekinesis against Saruman. Instant casting.
And what they did IS important. What else is there? Your favoritism and imagination?

bah, crown gandafl then, never mind the fact that Dumbledore is greater then Voldemort and the fact that he can cast sudden death with a thought were as gandalf can only do telkinesis.

Talk to the hand

I think that a scenario where these two would fight is extremely unlikely. These two character's aren't really even the kinds of characters that you should pit against eachother. It's not meant to be that way.

Dumbledore's magic is subtle and we never really get to know the extent of his power. Gandalf's magic is capable of disallowing an ancient demon's passage. Gandalf went away with a bang, while Dumbledore died shortly after a heroic deed. Gandalf returns and this time he's racist. Dumbledore kind of-sort of seen again in an apparition and has a talking painting of himself.

Why not have Frodo Baggins and Harry Potter fight eachother instead?
