I don't understand this analogy. You mean like hitting a wall with a blood-covered hammer and the wall shreds/shreeks?

A hammer shattering a wall with a single hit.

Ok let me be the weird one as always that will criticize most posts  and will take this thread seriously

Quote:
1. You should look up revocation in the Oxford English Dictionary. Then look up aluminium. Check the pronunciation guide. You will be amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing it. The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as 'favour' and 'neighbour', skipping the letter 'U' is nothing more than laziness on your part. Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without skipping half the letters. You will end your love affair with the letter 'Z' (pronounced 'zed' not 'zee') and the suffix ize will be replaced by the suffix ise. You will learn that the suffix 'burgh' is pronounced 'burra' e.g. Edinburgh. You are welcome to respell Pittsburgh as 'Pittsberg' if you can't cope with correct pronunciation.

Generally, you should raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels. Look up vocabulary. Using the same twenty seven words interspersed with filler noises such as "like" and "you know" is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication. Look up interspersed. There will be no more 'bleeps' in the Jerry Springer show. If you're not old enough to cope with bad language then you shouldn't have chat shows. When you learn to develop your vocabulary then you won't have to use bad language as often.

2. There is no such thing as "US English". We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take account of the reinstated letter 'u' and the elimination of -ize.
This is completely absurd and a bit childish. I mean, most languages are derived from others. What makes the "normal" English language so 'divine' that the US english is 'infidel' and needs to follow the rules of Brits' English?

And I do not like the colour for example. It's not lazyness, some people actually DO complain that english requires too much 'typing'. And why make it longer than it should? Isn't a language a means for communication and understanding? Why over-complicate it? As long as it is understandable it fits just as well as any other language. Why can't the Brits just leave it like that?

And please define 'acceptable levels' for a dictionary. How can there not be a thing such as 'US English'? People speak it. IT EXISTS. Who are you to criticize it from a distance how THEY should speak? It's their choice. And let me tell you something, they can understand themselves

(oh and don't tell me to chill out, I already told you at the start of the post)

Ahh what the hell?

Seen from a serious point of view: you are overreacting, a funny letter with some good points and remember though it is serious topics he touches, it is all seen from a comic view.

Most languages are descent from other languages, Germanic and Greek(can't remember wether it is greek or latin?) are the main languages that languages descent from, but that doesn't make American English wrong - It just tells us that things changes when it moves from continent to continent.

Personaly I think it is annoying they are different, my teacher is ALL BRITISH and I feel that she want things more british then american, like the word Ain't - not allowed to say that! because it doesn't exist. So if there were more common rules about what to speak in general, ofcourse that all depends on the individual country, it would be easier to seperate them.

Only nice thing american English got is "Fall", a easy word that is very easy to type.
American is just bad language abouse at alot of points, and i'm still trying to get rid of all my flaws in my typing here too ;P

I agree with every single syllable of that letter whole-heartedly and sincerely. And I love John Cleese. Thank you, Lexxan, I hadn't seen that yet.

Don't thank me, thank my Elngilsh teacher. (She needs some back-up, as she is only twenty-two years old and we were her first class ever). I'm glad I found the letter on the internet; otherwise I would have been forced to retype it from scratch (and you all know my carelessness). Anyway I'm glad all of you like it.

And TA: The Death isn't American (I think he was Romanian), but he definately needed to chill out (Maybe create a new one, Geny ?)

K?

Just a minor note: You can say this in America: "I will ring your phone"
However that is abusively wrong, it is "I will call your phone"

You wouldn't say either one in America. You'd usually say "I'll call you".
