This is the answer...

to one of the empty neutral slots...

in one of the interviews w/ Gus Smemstad:

"Gus Smedstad: Your hero's class reflects your hero's strengths. A Paladin, for example, has strong Life Magic and Combat skills. The Demonologist has strong Death Magic and Nature Magic skills, which he needs to summon demons "

I have a theory about this.  You know how, in one of the necropolis screenshots, you see gargoyles?

well, what if those gargoyles are really the DEMONS Gus is talking about???

It seems quite possible, since we've received no word about those creatures, so we don't know if they are gargoyles or demons.  And since we've seen nothing else that would qualify as demons, it seems very possible that these are THE demons.

In any case, we now KNOW that there will be demons in H4.
This is most definitely a major development which has, surprisingly, been overlooked.

Could be...

He will probably also summon satyrs, as they are forest demons (will be alignment with both Preserve and Necropolis). Just check out how much the satyr looks like the H3 demon!

hmmm...

well, since heroes w/demonology can summon demons and maybe satyrs, what do you think heroes with necromancy can summon (besides getting skeletons after the battle)?

I dont think the necromancer will summon anything at all, because getting skeletons after every battle is quite an advantage.

Preserver, the thing that the satyrs looks like the demon from h3 is absolutely correct. It even has the same hairy legs, .

Hmmm, Gracdragon and Preserver, about that Satyr discussion...

Satyr cannot be connected with the Necropolis. And the Satyr is neither Demon, neither he has demonic nature. The Satyr, as mitologicaly creature, has origins in the Greek mithology. As well as the Hydra, Minotaur, Centaur, Medusa, Titan ...

The Styrs were servants of the god Dionis, the god of wine. And there was also demi-god pan that was actually Satyr. They were humans with legs, and horns of Aries.

They lived in the woods, didn't like human presence, and loved to get drunk with wine. They were able to charm the creatures and humans with music, and they used this charming abilities to attract women. Of course that they (as everybody in Greece at that time) enjoyed orgies.

When I say forest demon, I do not mean demon in the religious way. More in the relationship to humans, with tricking, tempting and sins. I knew about the information you posted, and yes it has nothing to do with undead, but I think 3DO will go for a 'light demon' creature. BTW, where do you think parts of the classical European demon/devil model is taken from? So the line "satyr = greek forest demon" is not to be taken to precise.

PRESERVER:
what makes you think that they will summon satyrs...?
I mean, yeah, they look somewhat similar to h3 demons, but is that really anything to base it on?

I kinda doubt that the Satyr can be connected with the Necropolis. I mean, the creature is called Satyr, and should reflect Satyr. As for the demons, they may be as well still in the game. Don't forget that there are free slots and creatures that we haven't seen.

Svetac ...

Since the Demonologist has Nature magic as well as Death, he/she will be able to cast Nature spells, which will probably include "Summon Satyr".

Yes, yes, yes. But that comes from the Nature school of magic, and has nothing to do with the death in my opinion. If it would come from the Death magic school I would've agree that they have semi-demonic origin (in HOMM4). But this way it only the nature magic is concerned.

And the Demonologist os half death/half nature right?

I mean Necromancer can become Demonologist as well as Shaman. Different start, but similar finish I would say.

well, even if he can summon satyrs...

in the interview, if Gus had meant "satyrs" he would've said "satyrs" and not "demons", so it is fairly safe to say that there are demons in H4, IMO.
