How do you feel about the scrapping of the old storyline by Ubisoft?
I myself hated the scrapping. But I want to know the general consensus.

To be honest I did not really mind, I liked Antagarich and Enroth but 3do had destroyed them long before H5 came out. I never really got into the H4 world plus ubi continuing from where things were without the old team's vision and different ideas would probably mess things.
Note that the H5 storyline in the original was lame and not too thrilling in the rest but it's a start. I believe we can expect better things in the future now that some things are established.

@zmflavius - The old storyline was excellent and all, though that's mainly due to Terry Ray's efforts (writer of Heroes Chronicles and Heroes IV). The earlier games had really good stories too, though the number of contradictions between some of them was pretty staggering. Still we can hardly say Ubi are much better (Freyda = Wraith = HoF = miraculous resurrection)...
All the same one can hardly expect much better when Nival's plans for Axeoth were called off midway through Heroes V's development by Ubi. And after all of this, they can hardly bring the old storyline back, can they? I'd direct you to Legends of the Ancients but you don't have Heroes V, and Marzhin hasn't been active over there for a while anyway.
The general consensus is here... you're not the only one who objected. If you trust internet poll results (don't), the votes for old storyline to Ashan were 47:19 
Also to respond to your post elsewhere, the Heroes Chronicles were not fan-made.

Dont really care about the storyline,im tired of playing games just for that,but any Heroes game itself is awesome.

51% of a game like HoM&M is it's story that's why HoM&M5 killed me...it ws to bad, while the fourth was very, very, VERY GOOD!

I wont vote, because there were no option that suited me
But I will still say these words:
the Storyline of: HoMM original was a medicore story, like a b-movie. It was predictable, easy to follow and classic, sadly badly told.
The storyline of: HoF tried to fix the original and still follow up on it - nicely done here and gave some sense, yet didn't make it 100%
the storyline of: TotE fixed most things and actully made the story seem worthy to the game and I enjoyed it.
But I played HoMM Original feeling rather pleased, except for those mad buggers and such. The storyline didn't interupt my gameplay and I still enjoyed the game.
HoF made me love the game even more, because I fell in love with the hairy dwarfs. 
TotE saved this game so freaking much, it finaly made this game a new HoMM game and fixed the storyline (and ended it so it made sense with Dark messiah)
All in all, I loved how they tied: Dark messiah and HoMM together! That made my day. Story was average but I loved the game, and still plays it, but I need more maps. damn Nival for being so sloppy not making more

I like HoMM 5 story because of its lore. Ubisoft create far more interesting lore than the previous HoMM.

Heroes II:

The previous HoMM was tied in with MM. Try comparing the stories of Heroes III and Might and Magic VIII with those of Heroes V and Dark Messiah. You'll probably see why I'm defending the former.
Remember please, it was the Might and Magic storyline (HoMM + MM), not just HoMM on its own.
What worries me is that only so many people here have actually played through / understand the old Might and Magic storyline... I wonder if anyone else here has even touched any game from Might and Magic I-IX

I like H5 story line,but i like beter H3 story line,specialy SOD.
I know H5 has no connection with H3,but also in H5 Narxes(friend of Zehir) said :I am not Solmyr,the genie(Solmyr was a genie to in H3,his speciality was Chain Lighting).Also Markal's master were Sandro,a necromancer(Sandro were to a necromancer in H3).If H5 has no connection with H3 why they mention about them?or they have no more new names to name the hero .

and in H5 we have sandro's cloak so.. btw,Sandro should be in this game!it is classic heroes saga character it was in H1-H4 but not in this -.-
