@Moonlith
Apparently you did not understand much the new storyline then.

@Asheera
Many of them have bad balance or are way poorer in design/gameplay than custom ones.

Um, lol?  Apart from Markal being pure evil, I really don't understand what's wrong with his claim.  "Demons bad!" is accurate, at least.

I enjoyed the Heroes V storyline. It wasn't the best I've ever read/seen, but it wasn't the worst.

The lore and the history of each faction was, I thought, quite nicely done and entertaining. The cosmology was cool too, imo.

It's the other way around, it was the old universe that had things black and white. You know the lore, in H5 all factions have their good and bad moments, good and evil acts. In H3 things were mostly a good vs evil story.

What about H4? Gauldoth Half-Dead is prolly the most 'NOT-black-or-white' campaign ever And Tawni is also surprisingly grey... and the whole character of Tarnum...

In the timeline, sure, but not in the campaign's practice.  Elves haven't done anything evil.  Demons haven't done anything good.  Besides the Demons are never once shown to have good moments in HV or DM, while the Kreegans at least weren't "totally evil, period".

The "grey area" aspects were present in the old universe, they just weren't showcased in Heroes III.  MM7 for instance casts Nighon as neutral.

I thought it was good.

I loved heroes 3 but was always confused by the storyline (wtf with the timeline? Shadows of Death first, then Restoration and then Armegeddon...? ).

Also Ubisoft would just have screwed up the old storyline. I mean would you like to see a campaign in current Heroes 5 that is based on the old storyline?
I know that the fans would cry because it would be terrible.

*applauds*  SoD was a prequel.  Want me to explain any other confusing details?

Four letter abbreviation.  Begins with L, ends with A.

Heroes V -> HoF -> TotE -> DM -> Heroes VI?

Don't think so, they need to full the hole between TotE and DM, it's

Heroes 5 -> HoF ->TotE -> Heroes 6 -> DM

or

Heroes 5 -> HoF -> TotE -> Heroes 6/DM

Where H6 is the link between TotE and DM and the story in DM in H6 variant. Anyway it will suck, since I already know the story in DM, nothing new...

I agree, also no variety...

I'm telling you this as publicist, the story in H5 and the lore are not linked well, they missed the details, c'om the whole story sucks!

There were like 3 or more missions in H5 where you need to find the grail (called with the pathetic name tears of Asha ).

Nival said "no crusaders", cuz "it's something from the real history" but we have medieval castles, weapons and etc... this is ruining the lore of all heroes games. H5 IS NOT past of the HoMM series, is doesn't deserve its name with 5 after it, it's the start of totally new series, The HoMM series ended with 3DO and Heroes of Might and Magic 4.

They need to fill the hole?  TotE is the filler, it sets up DM.  You may have noticed Arantir walking around.  There is an 18 year gap but there's nothing they haven't already covered except Raelag.

But you didn't specify Ubisoft.  You said "a campaign".

Just saying, Lord Harke is not exactly a hero in the Elwin Campaign.  Suraze ended up doing something good for the world.  Just saying.

The HoMM games I've ever played are 2 and 5.  Seems like 5 has a deeper story but I'm sure it's not fair comparing two games so far apart in time.

IMO there's no clear good/evil in 5 at all.  The Necros have an overlying philosophy and unified history, but it seems factions of thought/practice have developed which could make them friends or enemies depending on the occasion.

I've always qualified the Infernos as more like prison inmates serving a sentence of eternity, and therefore thinking of nothing but escape, and becoming rampaging beasts as soon as they breathe a whiff of freedom.  Sure it's evil... but no more inherently evil than Palestinians vs Israel (this is not meant as making light of that real world conflict).  Their leaders (Inferno) are evil, though.
