Aside from an unexpected encounter with a late assignee named “Combine” discovered in the library (which almost resulted in the grifter’s demise) the two week journey to the Sarveno star system was smooth.  As the others went about training and perusing the libraries, Nines spent most of his time concentrating on the steady stream of astropathic communications he received on a daily basis.  Sarveno 7’s disappearance had greater implications than first believed.  Chaos cults dedicated to the Ruinous Powers started surfacing on Sarveno 2, 4, and 5, taking the heavenly body’s unexpected vanishing as a sign to strike.  The local PDF forces have been struggling to repel the Chaos tide, so the nearest Imperial Guard regiment, the Rivian 512, was diverted a few days ago to help with the overall effort.  To add salt into the wound, pirate activity in the system started to flourish, causing no end of grief for the Imperial Navy quarantining the planet.  Further reports of seemingly inconsequential activity were overlooked when Atticus decided to inform the captain of possible danger.

“Like we have anything to worry about!” declares the portly captain as he looks at the disheartened Atticus.  “Just kidding.”
“You really need to work on your routine, Paulo.  Timing is everything and this certainly isn’t the time.”
“Don’t be so paranoid.  This ship hasn’t left my site since I parked it in the hanger.”  A loud, gurgling noise signals the end transition from warp to materium, leaving the tiny ship to be greeted by the six planets before it.  The absence of seventh planet is immediately apparent.  “So where do you want me to set her down?”
“Sarveno 1 seems as good as a start as anywhere”  Nines replies gazing at space where the omitted planet used to be.

“I’m on-“  Captain Paulo’s acquiescence is quickly cut off by a sharp chirp.  “Looks like we are being hailed.  Encrypted channel.”
“Probably Rose or G’Dhall.  Patch them through” Nines commands.  His expression quickly sours as the snake-like face of a mercenary fills the large screen hanging in the deck.
“Inquisitor Nines.  I did not expect to see you out here.”  Drex’s crooked smile props up an incredibly smug expression.  “Looks like it malfunctioned.  No matter.  I’m sure it could just use some new batteries.”
“What’s going on?”  Paulo demands.  “Who are you and what do you want with my ship?”
The query is met with derisive laughter.  “Where are my manners.  I’m Drex and I am going to kill you now.”

A seismic explosion rips through the engine room as Drex’s ship fires dozens of laser batteries at the Inquisitorial ship.  Paulo quickly runs a damage assessment and nods to Nines.  The Inquisitor starts running and sends everyone a telepathic message.

Ardin receives the telepathic message and runs with surprising agility up to the second floor. Once there, he quickly locates the life pods and then proceeds to wait for the others. No one would be left behind, if he could help it.

Dozens and dozens of crew members swarm the hangers with the grace of Ork ballerinas as more detonations erupt around them.  The ship's hull is sustaining massive damage and internal systems have begun to fail.  The lights begin to flicker and burst, showering the escapees with razor sharp snow.  A few horribly burned when a nearby pipe bursts and sprays them with its pressurized contents.

"Don't push!  Don't push!  I'm an old man you know!" Walter shouts as he shoves his way towards Ardin.  "It looks like someone is already trying to kill us.  Didn't take as long as I thought it would" he chuckles as the mayhem intensifies around him.

Ardin grins a bit before replying:

"Indeed, Sir. This is a personal best for me...I don't think I've ever been attacked so quickly from the start of a mission."

He then sobers up and asks:

"Where are the others?"

Ardin's face grows grim with worry. The ship is failing a lot faster than he thought it would, and he feared for his comrades.

Helping as many people as he can to get to safety Von stayed behind as long as possible.  His first duty was to the health and safety of the crew.  He made his way steadily to where the others were, patching up anybody he could that needed it.  When he arrived he was half dragging two people who were injured in the blast.  "Well, what now?" He asked wearily.

"We leave" says a musculuar officer as he pulls the door to the pod closed, diverting the flow of traffic to the second, third, and fourth life pods.  "There should be more than enough pods for everyone.  The important thing is that we get out of here before this thing blows."

Walter, Von, and Ardin stand along with fifteen other people in the escape craft.  A crewmen up front pushes buttons and pulls levers to wake the systems while a techpriest starts chanting to the Omnissiah for the doomed spaceship.  The atmosphere is one of confusion and unease.

"Nines.  Ardin, Von and myself are aboard the first pod." Walter shouts into his commbead.  "Where are you?"

"R..er.  .n .. way... D" the link severs as the emergency shuttle roars to life and wrenches free of the destroyed vessel.  The sudden lurch sends the three henchmen stumbling about the cabin as the ship gains speed.  Walter desperately clings to a nearby seat while uttering Emperor Protect Thee under his breath.

"Everyone brace yourselves!" shouts the interim pilot as the vessel begins to enter the planets atmosphere.  The turbulence wracks the ship and sends those still standing crashing to the floor.  The rockiness wanes as the pilot wrestles for control, straighting one second and diving the next.  The battle for control sends the ship hurtling through the sky like a sidewinder.

"WE'RE GOING TO CRASH!" one of the passengers screams as the pilot.  Sure enough, the vessel slams into the ground and everything goes black.  Within a few seconds, the emergency lights flicker on and illuminate the disaster.  To the end of his days, Walter would swear the Emperor heard his prayres that day.  Not a single person was killed.  Horribly injured yes, dead no.  After everyone gets over the initial shock of the crash the safety hatch is blown by one of the crew memebers and rays of light filter into the cabin.

Von again takes charge of healing the injured, ignoring his own wounds for the time being.  Blood runs down the left side of his face from a cut on his forhead as he kneels beside an injured person.  He takes long enough to wipe it off before applying first aid to the person.

He looks around, and first person he sees that is not damaged he barks.  "You," he finds another that is a bit bruised but not badly injured, "and you.  Get the injured to as level a spot as you can." He looks around to the others.  "If you are not bleeding or badly injured help move these people. NOW!" he doesn't care what rank they are or who they are.

Ardin looks at his Power Armor and curses his luck. The servo on the right leg of his armor was damaged, making walking a pain. However, now was not the time to be worrying about such trivial things. The other crew members were probably badly injured, and most of them weren't wearing Power Armor to protect themselves. Getting up with that broken servo proved to be much harder than Ardin thought. It had been a long while since his armor had sustained such damage. But, on the positive side, it kept him unharmed.

He then found a crew member laying on the ground with a broken leg. He found two pieces of metal tubes laying around and improvised some rope to tie them together. He then told the crew member:

"I may not be a medic, but I think I can manage making a brace. Hold still."

With an obvious lack of tact, Ardin straightens out the man's leg, causing him to scream in pain, and then ties the tubes together to make a temporary brace for the man's leg.

"That should keep your leg intact...for now."

The man thanked him weakly.

Ardin then attempts to get up and the servo shoots off a small spark, as if complaining at the Crusader's attempts to move around the crashed vessel. He then looks around for Walter, wondering what the group was going to do now.

For Gabriel intensive training has been difficult on the ship. Eventhough equipted with every possible aparatus to strengten your body, sharpen your reflexes and simulate battles if proved difficult to practice live training. But such matters would not keep Gabriel from not conducting his daily training sessions with the outmost discipline. So instead on focusing on his melee capabilities he invested the extra time in his ranged combat skills. Which proved highly adviseable, as his targeting left a lot to wish for.

After finishing his training he went to the chapel for his daily prayer to the Father of Mankind. Kneeling before the Altar of the Emperor his eyes rested upon the small replica of the Golden Throne on the altar. He began

"Credo in Deum Patrem omnipotentem,
creatorem caeli et terrae.
Credo in Spiritum Sanctum,
sanctam Eccles..."

Gabriel was thrown against the Chapel walls smashing one of the statuets depicting a hero of times past. He quickly rose to his feet and before he had even asked himself what had happend a telepathic message arrived:

<<+We have to leave.  Now.  Get to life pods.  Second floor.  Hurry!+>>

Looking back at the altar a last time Gabriel ran out of the Chapel asking the divine Emperor for help.

"In your name! With your grace let me live past this day to be able to serve you!"

Fortunate for Gabriel the Chapel was on the same level as the drop pods. The closer he came to the drop pods the denser were. Finally ariving at the drop pods he saw the glimps of a power armour vanishing into a drop pod marked with Nr.1. That had to be Ardin. Apart from himself Ardin was the only to have the power armour bestoed upon them of the Eclissarchy themselves in order to battle against the foes of the Emperor.

"ARDIN!! WAIT!"

Too late he had already boarded. This proved to be only a minor set back as Gabriel was fast enough to get into drop pod Nr.2. His overnatural force aiding him a great deal in the paniced mob. He reached the Drop pod just in time to catch a transmission from lord Nines.

<<"Nines.  Ardin, Von and myself are aboard the first pod." Walter shouts into his commbead.  "Where are you?">>

"Gabriel. I'm in nr2. On the way Sir."

After reading an extremely interesting book about the nature of torturing small alien races, the ship suddenly decided to practice it on me. The damn craft threw me practically across the room. Luckily, a telepathic message flew through my mind, partially explaining what the hell is going on.

I got back up, refraining myself from crying like a sissy about the small bruises on my body. I ran towards the escape pods, where I saw the paladin. He seemed to be a bit busy with paladin stuff. At the least, he was praying... I hoped he was communicating with Nines.

I waved at him, hoping that he's paying attention too his environment, which is absolutely necessary, when your environment is a nearly empty, crashing ship.

He suddenly woke up and looked over at our direction (pod 2)

I hope that the guy makes the intelligent decision of coming, here... Despite any spoon-related issues.

On another note, there's one pod that already left... Traitors! May you burn in purgatory!

Zelon hade been in a simulated battle when the system sudenly crashed and he crashed with the wall. He discovered his right arm was stuck in the machine right before he got a telepatic message.

<<+We have to leave.  Now.  Get to life pods.  Second floor.  Hurry!+>>

"DAMN IT, I'M IN THE SECOND FLOOR AND THE PODS ARE NOT SO FAR AWAY FROM THIS ROOM!" Zelon though and started to figure out how to get his arm lose without having to cut it off.

After awhile Zelon got out of the room and started to go to the pods. Right after entering the next room Zelon heard footsteps behind him and suddenly heard a laser getting fired and somebody scream and fall to the ground behind him. Zelon turned around just in time to see somebody holdin a laser gun against him before he had to throw himself aside so he didn't get hit by the laser. "Damn it! Seems like I will be a little busy."

After a few frantic minutes of tending to the wounded, the ship's crew attempts to get the scanners back online to determine where exactly the ship crashed.  Massive explosions and gunfire erupt from outside the ship.  Whatever is going on, it's not good.

"It's no good," grumbles a technician in his mid 40s, "it's shot.  We're going to have to venture out, even if it sounds like suicide."

"Great.  Just great.  We crashed and from the sounds of it, we're in a bloody war zone.  Fine, you, you, and you, stay here with the wounded until we can find help," barks a senior crewmen.  "You," he points to Ardin, "you come with me.  If something is out there, they might think twice about attacking someone wearing power armor.  Gear up everyone!"

Within twenty seconds or so, a small team of six men head towards the exit hatch of the craft and cautiously open the hatch.  Gun raised, the senior member is the first off the ship, followed by the rest of the scouting party.

"Where the He-"

The sight of 300 lasguns and a Lemun Russ's main cannon stop the man mid sentence.  Gears grind as three sentinel walkers encircle the crashed space ship.  The surrounding area (a small city the gang would learn later) looks like a warzone; buildings lie in ruin and the streets run red with the blood of hundreds of combatants.  For the first time, Ardin realizes he's standing where the head of a dead cultist should be.  From the looks of it, dozens of cultists and those covered with markings of the ruinous powers lay crushed under the emergency pod.  Several squads advance on the group, prepared to fire at the slightest provocation.  A stout-looking woman draped in military honors appears from the middle of elite guardsmen.

"Sgt. Blake.  Who are you and what are you doing here?" she demands as she lights up a lithostick.

"So much for secrecy," Walter sighs as he appears behind Ardin.  "I'm Walter and this is Ardin.  We serve the Inquisition under Inquisitor Atticus Nines."  The sargent eyes the elderly man with suspicion as one of the squad collects the disarmed weapons lying about.

"Inquisition, huh?  I'll need to verify your identities.  Do you have identification?" At that point, every gun of the remaining squards is raised to eye level.  Any funny business would bring a world of pain to the henchmen.

"Of course.  Here."  Walter produces a data slate and holds it up for the sargent to take.  She then signals to her men to stand-by as she walks off.  "I'll be right back."  After a few tense minuts of waiting, the stout officer returns and orders her men to stand at ease.  "I just checked with command.  Your story and identities check out.  Very fortunate for you and us as well."

"Thank you," Walter says graciously, "but how is this exactly fortunate for you?"

"Well, your ship crashed on the last stronghold of some insurgent cultist we've been battling for over a fortnight.  From what we can tell, you crushed the leader under tons of rockcrete."

"How serendipitous," Walter smiles.

"Indeed.  Alright men!  Let's get the wounded out of here and clean up.  You can explain to me what happened to the commander when we get to base command.  Everyone, move out!"

==================================================================

Gary watches from the safety of the pod class Atticus vaporize some poor wretch with a blast of superheated plasma.  The Inquisitor yells something but is drowned out by the roar of the escaping space craft.

EDIT:  For some reason, my laptop screen is flickering every minute or so, so stand-by while I figure what the Hell is wrong with it.
