Actually it's his leg bone, the round end would be his knee, in a squat-like stance with the rest of his leg behind the rock-like object...

That's a massive amount of work for an artist 
I've been kinda toying with a pixel-art version of the game, replacing creatures and some other defs with my own stuff and creative commons art, and with a focused lead and idea for an "expansion" you could totally "re-make" the game with more modern pixel-art. For better or worse

Your idea is much more massive hoever, so I fail top see your point
Of course pixel artists will also work if someone pays them...
On the other hand, it may be more motivational at that stage to just make an heroes-inspired pixel art game you can sell.
