What's your favorite elder scrolls game?

Have any of you played them all?

I grew up playing hours of Arena and Daggerfall as young one.  Fun times.  When I was a little older I became frustrated with Daggerfall's bugs.  When Morrowind came out I found many things I didn't like but was strangely addicted.  I still return to it from time to time but it never holds me for long.  Oblivion I played intensely for 3 months right when it came out and I haven't touched it since.  I had too many problems with it.  Not bugs or anything like that, I just didn't like the game design.

So I'd have to pick Arena it gave me the most fun and the least frustration even if it's fairly shallow.

Give me Morrowind! I only played the last two, but I know morrowind is better (in content)

I agree that oblivion fixed a lot of bugs and made the game more alive, BUT I could finish oblivion in 2 days, now. (I know that someone finished morrowind in 7 mins, but I'm talking about the way it's meant to be played.

I'm not sure which I like better.  Oblivion is too easy and Morrowind is full of useless skills and lets you throw away quest items.  I have yet to beat either game.  For Oblivion, I just enjoy ransacking the Portals to Oblivion and in Morrowind, I like hunting for exotic gear.  I remember I got up to incredibly powerful levels only to discover that I accidentally discarded a Dwarven Cube (or something like that) and that ruined the rest of my game.

Isn't morrowind supposed to be some rpg with a giant world. How exactly do you beat such a game in 7 minutes oO?

All I know is that it was something that was supposed to be in the ruins near Fort Moon-something.  With how big the game world was, it very unlikely I was never going to find the item again.

Aaaaaaaaahhh, the dwarven cube near fort moonmoth at (a name with waaay to many consonants)(Karkhztandt or something) Yeah, it was the first place where I got stuck. I had trouble finding it, when I was inside. It took me 3 hours, until I found out that it actually isn't that far from the entrance

Yeah... In Oblivion you could probably find it in 20 mins.

I'm bored, so I just started typing...

For it's time, Morrowind's graphics were alright. The environment (especially the water and the sky) looked very good. It was as if you were on a different planet. The appearances of the different characters were diverse and colourful. The demons (daedra), corprus monsters and undead looked very strange, making them quite scary sometimes. There were no facial expressions, I admit, and the designers got a bit lasy when coming up with Dagoth Ur and his ash vampires, but the sleepers/ dreamers like Dagoth Gares were very original and made it a bit better.

Oblivion had an incredible 3d engine, which was it's main trump card. Objects were more subject to gravity and were realistic. The creeps and monsters became very western European. There were bears, wolves and vampires, for example. The daedra were the same in design, except the daedroth, spiders and xivilai. There is no sixth house, which is logical, so there were some monsters missing, but the xivilai reminds me a lot of the uruk-hai berserker and the spider daedra reminds me of a monster in DOOM 3. The daedroth was stripped from it's human appearance. The undead were also very normal, again. The character creation was, well, it was put to the max. You could design the face of your character to it's fullest. There were facial expressions and many voice-overs.

Morrowind had loads and loads of content, compared to Oblivion. Every character had so much to say in morrowind. In Oblivion, there wasn't much content, but almost everything was voiced-over. this voice-over adds some spark of life to the game, but, at the same time, you're cutting at the story, since voice actors are more expensive than typers. I wonder whether this would be the reason why the main quests in Oblivion aren't as numerous and lengthened like those in morrowind. Oblivion did remain consistent with morrowind, since they used the same voice actors as they did in morrowind.

travel: travelling was easy in Oblivion thanks to the new "fast travel" option, but, at the same time, you're cutting at the adventuring experience. Morrowind had the silt strider as the means to cross insane distances, but some areas weren't covered at all (if you had to go anywhere in the far eastern direction, you should be prepared to walk at least a half hour and carry some levitation scrolls and divine interventions) In Oblivion they give you mounts...

Which were more necessary in Morrowind...

levelling: Oblivion is insane on level 48. you can beat the entire game in two days on level 15. The mission at Kvatch at level 40 is impossible (unless you're alchemist, armorer and a good fighter (heavy armor + blunt/blade). At least, in morrowind, you could benefit from having a high level. With the level balance also comes loot. So, in morrowind, if you have full daedric armor, you have done the impossible. If you have this in Oblivion, you're just high level (I admit that the helmet is difficult to find)

expansions: knights of the nine
Terrible expansion, I paid 25 euros so I could have: an extra main quest (it was short and felt more like a small guild than a main quest.) horse armor (what for?) spell books (someone who uses this?) two hideouts (I admit that I still use the vampire hideout) and a new armor pack (If you like playing evil, it's also useless)
Shivering Isles
Better expansion (far better than knights of the nine): It added an extra continent with flamboyant, extravagant and extremely fun characters. It was a worthy expansion.

Tribunal: Alright, it gave access to a great and more realistic capital. It had some worthy and interesting side quests. It had typical morrowind-like quests (they take a life time to figure out)
Bloodmoon: It was a good expansion as well. The quests were easy but they usually demanded that you traversed the entire island of Solstheim again, again and again.

greatest negative factors: nothing to do anymore in Oblivion... It is way too easy, so you do it all in one go...
Morrowind: If I see one more cliff racer... Quests would be easier, if I didn't encounter a cliff racer every 1.5 secs. (Or a mountain right in front of my destination)

I also miss the houses... Instead, they gave the nobles and daedra statues... Artifact hunting became extraordinarily easy, again.

The story was also easier: restore a king(I know: emperor) to the throne and save the empire. By restoring the amulet, you stop a daedric god's decent on tamriel. To succeed, you must send someone to face the god with an amulet, after (not required) having done the bidding to some nobles.

Morrowind's story: You are the incarnation of a great and powerful saint. You must stop a madman who is the leader of a dead political faction. He tries to build a titan, named Lorkhan. To succeed, you must first face the mad demi-god with extremely powerful, after having united a politically fractured nation.

These were the main issues/ thoughts that just popped up in my head.

Dagoth, light armor gives better armorclass in oblivion than heavy armor does. Besides the rings and such give you much more. I did the main guest at level 42.

Hit, run, hide,

Yes, but light armor gets smashed to pieces. But i found/customised some weapons so that they gave me at least 75% armor rating(even when base rating = 0)...

I finished it at level 48 (assasin) Alchemist becomes imba at a certain point where you can just throw away all your armor and kill things with your fists... Just make sure that you have enough restore healths with you.

But fights take FOREVER. even with umbra drenched in my most potent poisons sneak attack will take a minute or two against a grummite... Don't mention xivilai. They're the reason why I mastered armorer skill (it was a misc skill btw). But after you hit someone, can you really hide again? Or do u use potions/ chameleon/ invisibility skill?

But don't ask me to finish it on "hard" difficulty...

I used sneak most of the time. After power sneak atack they are paralysed or stunned or whatever and you can hide again. Besides with 150 sneak you can bumb at them and they won't notice you.

I was playing the game at the hardest difficulty, the slider at the far right, the minotaurs at the arena killed me with two hits.

The combat is pretty boring, I wouldn't prolong it by moving the slider to the right.

You can get Arena somewhere on the elderscrolls web site and it should work in dosbox.  It's old school, like the early might and magic's where the text meant something.

Oblivion is quite a good game... It has good graphics, nice combat system but it lacks interesting characters, in the end, it's quite a mediocre game... That's what mods are for

Current Mods I use are:

Illumination Within
DarkLeatherArmor
Ren's beauty pack
KT Custom Race fix
Realistic ragdolls and force
Marco's Samurai Armor
Armory Arcane
Portable Campsite
Nico's Dreadweave Armor + Axes
Ranger's shroud armor
Seph's new Animations
Alchemist's Cave
Enchanted Druid Treehome
Harvest Flora
Supreme Magicka
Better Water
Chase Camera Mod
Adonnay's Elven Weaponary
Spell Delete
Darker Nights
Dark Dungeons
Dungeon Actors have torches
Unique Landscapes: Imperial Isles
Frostcrag Reborn
Akatosh Mount
See You Sleep
Decorator Assistant
Blades Ceremonial Armor
Eagle Eye Realistic Archery
Color Map Mod
Natural Faces

If Oblivion was a 3/5 before, it's at least a 4/5 with modding, but I guess that applies to Morrowind too. Btw, why isn't this a poll?
