Lol Angelito. One thing I am wondering though. If the supposed Observatory was just temporary, why would they have let it grow out of hand so much? Plus, I have my doubts whether they thought of the decision through enough. I mean, it was quite an active forum with a bit of discussion happening with people there even if a lot of it may have been quote wars or whatever, it just seems unfair for those that didn't do anything wrong. Another moderator could have been put in that forum to try and deal with everything, but not a forum close. That should be the last resort.
Also, did anyone warn the members that it was going to be closed soon or was it pretty much a discussion between the mods, close the forum and then tell the members what happened and why they did what they did?

Well that's not right at all. People should have been warned prior to this whole thing happening. Did any of the moderators pay any attention to the Observatory or not? This whole situation just seems really unfair for those that were posting in there.

Well there's a whole drama at this thread. There's also discussions about the Moderators, that they didn't care about the Observatory and didn't do their "job" right, etc...

To be honest with you I don't even make a big deal out of it -- it's just an internet sub-forum which wasn't even made for that at first (I mean the whole board). If you look at all the net forums you will realize it's just another needle in the hay cart

Well if that forum got anywhere near as bad as the OSM has gotten to in its worst times, I can kind of understand where the Admin was coming from.
It definitely gets tiresome to have to repeat the same warnings to the same people over and over. Its also frustrating to see the way some people will just never learn and continue to do the same destructive style posting time and time again.
There have been a few times that I have wished the OSM would just go away But those are just moments of exasperation, when it feels like there's no point in trying to talk to people anymore
That said, just because I get aggravated by it, I would still never support removing it entirely...

The reasons for the Observatory's fall from grace are complicated, and I've said all I really mean to say on the issue over there, including a comparison of the Observatory with the OSM here. But I think, if nothing else, the final state of the Observatory serves as a nice example of what happens to a forum that is not well moderated.
It's a credit to Angelito and Pandora that the OSM here is the [mostly] friendly place that it is. Good job, guys.
EDIT: Pandora, it was worse.

The most critical difference between the OSM and the OBS is that in HC, ZanJerusalem was banned relatively quickly, while at RT, a ZJ-type poster was allowed to tear the OBS apart and not get banned. I realize that GOW is not quite ZJ, but yelling "Liar, Christian basher" is something they really do have in common.
Corribus:
I don't think it would be entirely correct to place so much emphasis on the mods, though. After all, Asheera, TheDeath, and I tore up the OSM quite badly with our quote wars , and there was relatively little mod action, yet things never got nearly as bad as they did over at the OBS.
