"Brilliant! The sooner we get back to civilisation, the better and I'm sure that money will be taken care off by our good leader." i said. At my last sentence I slammed my hand, right on Jeremy's shoulder. "And i'm sure noone will complain, except our dear philanthrope, shalan, but you'll stop caring, eventually." I then said. I was a bit of a jerk, but fatigue took over. I already turned towards the road, before  noted the staff. I mumbled something, while pointing towards it. I slowly marched, until the rest caught up. I wasn't sure whether they had decided to follow and take that madman as a guide.

It was getting dark and the five adventurers stopped and decided to call it a day. Everyone seemed tired, especially Jeremy and Robert. Once they had set up a campfire and ate something, Jeremy wanted to break the silence and said to the arrogant and irritating young man who had just recently joined their group of adventurers: "Could you please introduce yourself to us? I don't remember us having traded introductions and now we obviously have time to talk about things. I am Jeremy a wandering bard and some call me with a rather unpleasant nickname 'the Toneless'."

I slowly turn my head to face the one speaking to me. As he finishes, I turn my attention to the snake.

“If it so unpleasant, why does the bard announce it so?”

I return my gaze to the bard.

“To keep telling the tale, as bards do do, the tale will never die. Not even the one of you.”

I sit in thought for a few seconds.

“Hah!” I let out in a burst. The snake gets thrown through the air in the process. She lands about five feet away, relatively unharmed. “That was actually pretty good. I’m going to have to try and remember that one!”

I realize the snake isn’t with me anymore, and notice her where she was thrown to.

“Come back over here.” The snake obeys, as I extend my arm for her.

“Now, back to your request for introductions, I am Ethan and this is Inga.”

"Dazzling" I responded. "My name is Robbert. I roam the land with these three. That's about all you need to know from us, the way I see it." I turned on my side with my hate covering most of my face. I clenched my backpack and fell into the arms of Great Mistress Sleep. The dreams I had were disturbing and they took me back to places I didn't like being, to the far south were freedom was dead, the wall of the faithless, where people who paid no tribute to any good were crushed and forgotten, to the elven kingdom were honor was held above all, where beggars were treated with no disrespect, but coldness and to the deserts, where the vultures and raiders patiently waited to prey on your lifeless body...

I did'nt like the new man, he had that look that the higher men from the mine had when they looked at us slaves, only that he did it to everyone. Robert was tired and went to sleep after a rather blunt comment.
I myself haden't said a word since Ethan had got here, I just looked at the man and said "I'm Shalan Redtail" I also strethed my hand to his as if I wanted to shake it, he only made a tiny smirk and shoke it, rather uneasy or ammused, or both, I coulde'nt really tell.
After the somewhat coold greeting from both parts I laid down and tryed to get some sleep.

"Ah, tha' wer a nais meele" Grim sighed, as we left the Inn

"Ownly tha' blosted Gnoom dadn't knoow hes beer" He scowled at Hans. The Gnome has drunk too much Turnip beer, and I had to carry him now, as he was too intoxicated to walk. Grim had to carry Hans Stuff', whch included two extremely heavy backpacks and his basket filled with useless thrinkets.

"Cahnt wee jast troow owll awei and ran forrett?" Grim said. "Camman, Mashta, We doont need hem."
I looked at the snoring gnome I was carrying in my arms.
"No," I said "We might need him"
"Bat..."
"No, Grim"
"Ookey, yer thee boass."

I kept thinking at our meal in the Inn. I had a feeling that I was watched, desired, a feeling I couldn't describe. The feeling was so unconfortable, that I didn't enjoy my Goodberry Soup.

"Grim, have you see anyone..."
"Shhhht!" the Dwarf snorted "Weer beeying foelawed ogain."

If it weren't for the feeling I had in the Inn, I would've dismissed Grim's warning. However this time, I thought is was worth it to check.
"Whoops, Nature Calls" I said a bit too loud, as if someone was listening. I could hear movement in the bushes behind me.
"Here, Grim, hold Hans for me"
"Wot tha..."
"I'm gonna check", I whispered at the Dwarf, and winked at him as a sigh I meant it

I calmly walked away from the road, and hid myself in the bushes opposite to those where I had heard the movement sounds...

I muttered a spell to Eledin, which made me shapeshift into a Flaming Eagle... I Flew towards the skies, aparently unnoticed by both Grim and the spy in the bushes... once I was behind the Clouds, I plummeted myself towards the bushes were the spy lurked... Only 2 feet, two metres, a metre, 30 inches... Contact... a Yell... lots of noise...

"WHOOOOAAAAAA!!! NOOOO!!!"

*KADABANG KALANZANG BOOMBALALA*

I had caught the spy, and while the blaze of my transformation has burnt the bush to shreds, the Spy, a tall, red-robed Wizard in his forties only had slightly singed robes and beard. I had taken my usual form again and grabbed the stunned wizard by the throat with one hand, holding a Fireball in the other.

"Ai Knoow tha' mahn!" Grim said who came running to the crash-site. "Ee woz setteing behaind ye, en the Cleerwoter Enn!"
"Really?" I said and looked the Wizard Straight in the face "Who are you, Wizard?"

-"Ka-Ka-Karl Kuddweed" the Stunned Wizard stammered.
"Why where you following us?" I asked him aggresively, looking into the Wizard's deep and frightened eyes.

*What a most unpleasant flow of happenings... Well, concerning Karl it was. He chose to follow the three little mates spying and hiding. And for his not tiny shock, his hiding was more effective at drawing attention than any of his former acts. ~What a weird kind of people...~ He thought as he was very suspicious about that "call of nature" he was sure he was noticed. But he saw nothing and before he had a chance to think about it, he was most ruthlessly attacked. The merciless grab of his throat erased every kind of pity about the tricks at the inn.*
"Why where you following us?" *This was the second question posed by this odd Boris while throttling a wizard. It was more than enough, the more so since Karl was threatened by magic. ~You shameful little magician.~ The hand of Boris loosened a bit, letting Karl to speak and breath easier. Though the fireball became larger and hotter, starting to scorch the wizards eyebrows.*
"Well, most dear and wise Boris..." He started slow and deliberate. He thought there was no point in denying the fact he followed them. And so why not let them know how unguarded they were traveling? Anyways, Boris's eyes showed more anger hearing his name, the grab slightly tightening again.
"...why do you think I am impressed by those flames?" *He erupted in a hacking cough and it lasted for near a minute. That minute passed in one of the most tough battles ever took place in a human mind. What to do? Be wise or be proud? Attack or defend? Burn them or chill them? Laugh or cry? Wise or proud? Survive or vengeance? Wise or proud?*
"The wiser question should be: why did you let it happen for so long? Why did you not take care of yourself in such troubled times? Mister Boris" he nearly spitted the last two words, literally...

"I guess I'll be getting some shut eye as well, but I'll be watching so don't try anything funny while were asleep!" Jeremy said to the arrogant young man and instantly fell asleep.

Jeremy was skipping across a lush meadow with flowers and grass along with his four companions. They all were holding hands as they skipped across the meadow. After a little while of happily skipping across the meadow, Jeremy got an urge to kick Robert in the legs and trip him along with the rest. As Jeremy himself likes to say "an itchy nose is to be scratched," he kicked Robert in the legs and tripped all the rest of group in a chain reaction.

The scenery changed into the wastelands of the north with withered, grassy hills as far as the eye can see. and to the near by mountains he could see the dark fortress of the necromancer lord Kelthraias.

"That is your destination, my Herald of Death..."

The sun was rising over the little camp and Jeremy woke up. He felt rather cold even though he did have a warm cape around him.

After differentiating dream from reality, Jeremy rose up to sit, took his lute in his hands and played a few notes thinking: "I'll be going there alone..."

Robert woke up, quite late in the morning. The sun was already up and the warmth reminded him more of the south than the north, but he didn't pay much attention to that.He looked up at the group. He slept longest of them all, which unnerved Robert. He got up quickly and strapped his protecting peieces to his joints and put on his shadowcloak, which would help him in the dark. He hid his two daggers and rapier under his clothes and walked to his companions.

"Are we ready to go?" Robert asked. "I have to urge to open the locks on treasure chests and find strange lands." He added quickly in an odd tone of voice.

The sun was high and shiny, but Jeremy still felt cold. Robert was the last one to wake up. After Robert had expressed his anxiety to go looting riches Jeremy took out his map, pointed a place still alarmingly near Agliath and said: "We are here and we should go a little bit to the north-west and then keep continuing straight north to reach Athkoln. Since we all are finally awake now, I would guess we are quite ready to continue."

"Any questions? If not, we should get going."

Jeremy looked down on his hands and wondered: "Why do I feel so cold?"

"Dazzling!", I said. I then noticed that jeremy was shivering. "Are you okay, man?" I then asked. It was strange to be dependable on someone who could be called a leader. It was a feeling I hated. Would I also abandon this group? I suddenly remembered the treasure and the fine company that would be near me. I gave a quick glance to the monk and lizard boy. I then turned back to Jeremy.

"I'm fine thank you," Jeremy answered to Robert almost sounding insulted and then said: "Lets get going then. Its a long way and we aren't moving very fast."

They walked and Jeremy's mind kept wandering. At one moment he was thinking of his dreams and the necromancer, the second he was thinking about the journey and the third he was thinking about his four companions: How annoying the new guy was, how darn attractive Shariya was, how suspicious Robert was and how mentally scarred Shalan was from his years of slave work. Jeremy also thought that the journey would also lead him to a place where he hoped to never have to return again...

Jeremy was feeling depressed by the silent mood and his thoughts and decided to play his lute a little bit to lighten up the mood while they were travelling, but stricktly refrained from singing...

As the group gets ready to leave, I tell them to go on ahead, and I’d catch up. I needed time to prepare Inga.

“Colder areas, we are going to be traveling in. So, Inga, your journey with me is at an end. I don’t really want any snake meat, so I guess I’ll just send you on your way. Though, maybe I’ll be nice and change you back.”

I take some time to cast a spell on the snake. At its completion, the snake transforms back into her human form. Bare, cold, and lying in the dirt. It takes her a few seconds to come to her senses, but as soon as she does, she pushes herself off the ground, and runs behind the nearest thing she could see.

I turn around, laughing lightly. I start heading for the group ahead, at a moderately accelerated pace. Pointing to the distance, I give the woman one last bit of advice.

“In case you’ve forgotten, it’s that way.”

Finding the others isn’t very difficult, especially with the lute playing. I make no attempts to hide my approach. I just walk to the left of everyone, now snake-less.

The Fireball in my hand started to blaze more intensively. A drop if Sweat appeared on Karl Kuddweed's forehead.
"You think that is the way magic works, do you?" He spat,"But let's make you happy, if you are so keen. I -as wizards generally do- happen to know things... and You happen to make it even easier to know you: acting very carelessly and ignorant, dear sir."
-"Ignorant? Careless?" -I Couldn't think of a less careless and ignorant person than myself- "Do you even realise what you are saying, Wizard???"
-"I know, thank you very much. "Kuddweed replied, in a failed attempt of dignity, which made him look even more disdainfull"But you really seem to be a bit slow behind that forehead... Do you want me to point out your mistakes one by one?"
I sighed. "Nevermind, Wizard. Go on your way Wizard and leave us be."

I released Kuddweed, the Fireball in my hand dissappeared. Kuddweed now looked even more shocked than he ever did before. His facial espression espressed relief, Surprise and, of Course, disdain, but strangely some kind of dissappointment as well, as if he didn't expect him to release him yet.
I didn't care less at the time. i didn't want to waste my enegies to the babbling of Senile Old Tooks, whether they were Wizards or not.

Kuddweed was the only who looked surprised. Grim had the a look of surprise and disbelief on his face, which made him look like Fishhead (but one with a blonde beard).
-"Yew or leevin' 'em, Mahstar Borris? Woi? Or ye ewt av yer moind?"
"I know very well wat I'm doing, Grim, thank you" I said a bit annoyed, as I wasn't quite sure whether this was a good decision or not.
"He is no Danger to us, Grim" I added, hoping it would reassure him. "Completely Harmless" Behind my back I could hear a Grouchy Snarl, but I decided to ignore it. "It is not that if someone spies on us, that we have to ki-AAAAAAAAHH!!!"
Before I could finish my sentence, I lost my balance and fell on my pretty face.
Hot blood started to stream from my nose...

Somewhere relatively close to Jeremy and his silent companions.

"Well then Doug, how were you driven into banditin'?" Said a bandit to another in their small camplike place behind some shruberries and a huge rock. "Oh it was so I could feed mi wife and trhee kids. Di'in't have much of a choice really since I'm not exactly the skinny and stealthy type," The second bandit answered and before he could ask the first bandit said: "Well mi daddy was a bandit and his daddy was a bandit so I'm just continuing the family job. Is this your first time banditin'?" "Well... Yeah..." "Well then I've got a few tips for ya," said the more experienced bandit (the first one) and assumed his explaining stance while sitting: "You need to take a really nasty look on your face like you were hoping that you would have to deal with resistance and have this sinister laugh sort of thing going on when the boss tells them to hand over their shinies, like this," the bandit explained and took his signature face and demonstrated the laugh: "Mwehheh-hheh-he. Now you try it," the inexperienced bandit was about to take his experimental face and laugh when the slim, robed and hooded person (a rogue mage by the looks of it) with them hissed: "Sssilence. I hear a lute player coming towards the ambush point... My ears in the capital told me that a bard of ssome sort had attained a rather valuable map and was coming our way with trhee companionsss.. a Lizard-man, some red robed monk and ssomeone who was obviously enough from the thievess guild. I think we are prepared enough to take four adventurerss. They said that the lizard man was wounded and unarmed so this shouldn't be too hard." The two bandits looked astounded and the hissing man under the hood said: "I will inform the rest," and took a small piece of paper he had in his pocket, casted a spell and trhew it in the air. The paper floated to the other side of the rock, behind a similiar large rock covered with shruberries.

The lute playing was coming closer and the two bandits could now hear it too. The bandits took out their curved blades and the first bandit quickly whispered to the other: "Okay, now just follow my lead and you'll do fine. If we succeed there will be tea and crumperts at the hideout... Don't worry buddy, it gets easier every time..."

Jeremy was walking with his companions at a peaceful pace. The playing had made Jeremy feel a bit better, but had not shaken off the coldness. After a bit more walking, they saw two large rocks with some shruberry covering them and it made Jeremy stop playing his lute and said: "I believe this monument is called 'Bandit point' and the rocks were magicked here hundreds of years ago by a small band of rogue mages or 'bandit wizards' as some used to call them. They say its an omen of good luck if you are not attacked by bandits when passing by."

Robert and Shalan looked a bit uneasy when they were approaching the midlle of the rock monuments... As they came between the rocks they were surrounded by four bandits wielding the same kind of curved blades as the ones they encountered earlier and some kind of a hooded person (a rogue mage by the looks of it).

The robed person hissed at them trheateningly: "Hand over your money and that map please," and the bandits surrounding the adventurers laughed rather sinisterily...

I made a small step backwards so that I was near jeremy and said: "I'm not taking this as an omen of bad luck..." Then I turned from my fellow adventurers and readied myself against the hooded person. Slowly my hand was going to grasp for the rapier strapped to my sash. I could practically feel the strain of muscle going through the lizardman's body. I'd never seen something so powerful in my life (except for the gladiators in the big cities).

*The jinx worked of course and made the half-elf fall. Karl didn't wait till he turned around to face his attacker.*

"And you asked me why I called you ignorant? You don't watch your steps, that is. You know, you have just attacked me for no reason, gripping my neck like mad and waving a stupid flame before my face. Then you insult me some more, more than unpolite. You know that I'm a wizard and that I know your name, most probably much more. And even you are dump enough to turn your back on me... Congratulations, "Masta Burris" ". *All this was accompanied by an impression correspondantly disgusted and -only when they were face to face- a small bolt of energy. This magical "arrow" couldn't do any real harm, Karl meant it only as a prod.*

Boris Dodges the bolt and summons vines from  the ground  around Karls Feet.

Being suprised by the veins, Karl relizese that his reflexes are not as fast as they were. He uses a spell of avarage shielding with his left. It is a force field that eliminates lesser spells and is impenetrable for normal matter. But if it's knocked, Karl would be knocked as well. With his free hand he vanishes the magical veins, then he releases the shield and uses both hands to form an other shield that seems to shine like glass.

Boris takes dirt from the ground and throws it up in the air. He waves his hands, the dirt become tiny Steel Darts that Bullet towards Karl, attempting to crush the unknown shield.

Karl's magical-mirror wasn't a good choice as he faces steel darts. He now dismisses the useless shield and with a funny waving movement of his arms, as if dancing, he manages to reverse the direction of the darts, so they would continue their way in the opposite direction, as if Karl had sent them.

Boris throws at them, melting them. He Transforms into a flaming eagle and takes off in the air;  He flaps his wings rapidly, creating a powerfull stormwind.

As Boris starts the self-transforming, Karl starts the counterspell to force him back to his previous shape. The strog wind interupts his casting and makes it hard for him to move. So he turns his back on the Eagle and imediately starts a shelling magic that supposed to reserve the air/water around the caster for a few inch radius, thus creating a perfect calm. When able to move again, he starts to draw something in the dirt around him.

Boris doesn't recognise the runes, but startes spinning around, creating a massive tornado, whixch races towards Karl in order to make the drawings disappear.

Karl is barely at the half of the process for the circle of magic. He recognizes the threat for a whirlwind, against which his shell would not protect. So he conjures in front of him an advanced protection, a wall of "negative turbulence" which is a curtain of moving air that vanishes any wind blowing through it, but eliminating itself as well. Now protected, he thinks better of the circle and leaves it unfinished. Instead he starts an incantation that sounds very insulting and aggresive somehow, even for those who don't understand it. It is a longer chant so he forms the force-shield again; while chanting, he stares at Boris in an odd way.

With the Whirlwind gone, Boris becomes duzzy and loses his balance. He plummets towards the ground, but is able to change his texture into Jelly, which enables him to survive the fall. Once he landed he bounces towards Karl.

Taking the form of some unearthly jelly, Boris suprises Karl and manages to knock him to the ground with the bounce, interupting yet an other spell. Getting back some of his initiative, he tries to use a magical binding on the jelly-cleric. As he considers this form less dangerous at the moment. His magic shall force Boris to remain in this form, being held from shape-shifting.

Boris Jumps in Jelly form, his elasticity enables him  to jump high. He jumps, disappears in the clouds... then he plummets towards the ground again , right at Karl.

Boris jumps out of sight before the spell could have effect. Karl, totally puzzeled, forgets about himself for a brief moment, staring at the cloud in which the amorphous cleric has disappeared. After this pause he shakes himself and starts a spell of compressive-solidify with the idea of incapacitating Boris -freezing him practically. The spell works, and the hardened jelly hits Karl right on the top of the head, knocking him so hard, he loses controll over both his spells and legs, falling prone.

Boris Took his Original, Humanoid Shape and Walked over to Karl. he waved his hands in a quick motion and the Hammerstaff he'd been using as a Walking Stick levitated towards him. He walked towards Karl and put the pointy end of the staff on Karl's chest.
"Methinks I have won,  Wizard" he said, Grinning.
Karl, still on the ground, still dizzy, his head twinging feels greatly ashamed and suprisingly: too tired to be angry or lofty.
"Oh, yes, but the term I lose would be more precise... And now, good man? Are you going to taint that nice staff with blood?"
"No, Wizard I do not seek your death. I'll spare your  life, though I doubt you would've spared mine. Go and leave me in peace, before I change my mind." He stepped back.
"Then you are wrong. I didn't offend your life... And I'm not a murderer. But I will forgive you that bit of prejudice for the cleric who showed me mercy."
"So what? I saved your life, so?" Boris, turned around, puzzled
"Do you think so? Then let's say yes. After all... well." *Karl stopped here, being in trouble finding the words. Never ever in the past decades have someone showed him mercy. All the wizards were powerhungry and ambitious and it hardened Karl's heart so much. But now memories came from the past, reminding him what were his aims when he was a mere novice. He had to blink. After that, a still stern but clear pair of eyes met Boris'.
"Tell, dear man, do you think you can keep me from helping you?" *He did something very unfamiliar for Boris: smiling."
"Oh Dear" Boris closed his eyes and  rubbed his foread, as if he had a head ache.
The Dwarf "mumbeled something to his master "Yer gattin' a noisty habbet teyr, Mahsta Burris, Sayvin' peepels loives..."
"And are you a victim of this unpolite habit poor dear?" *Karl asked, silenting the dwarven accent for a while.*
Boris Sighed. "Very Well, Wizard, welcome on board' he said with great reluctance.
"Thanks for the warm wellcome." *Karl answered, eyeing his new team with more than tiny doubt. He couldn't understand it, but he felt relieved and free... and extreamly stupid to accompany a loony half-elf with a lumpish dwarf and a drunken gnome.*

I can’t help but continue smiling during this act of banditry. This is a bit of fun we’ve gotten ourselves into. I can’t help but reply to Robert, though.

“No one said anything about any bad luck omens. We’re just not getting any good luck omens. At least, not from this place. Not that it’s even needed.”

I reach into my pocket, but pull out nothing. The idea sounded fun, at first, but I didn’t think it would be too productive here.

“You, lizard. Uh… Shalan, right? Ah, who cares right now?” I cast a spell, and pat him on the arm. Magical energies flow through him, increasing his strength. “Don’t waste the fun.”

"Damn it!" was the first thought that had come into Jeremy's mind when the bandits surrounded them. After thinking a bit what to do and listening to Robert's and the irritating young man's exchange of banter about lucky omens, Jeremy whispered: "Play along."

"You bandits must think very highly of yourselves when you attack a group of adventurers this well armed with so few men!" Jeremy gloated. "I think you'd better run off while you still can for we won't hesitate to slaughter you!"

The bandits stared at their robed & hooded leader... "Enough of this! We shall pry your goods from your cold dead hands!" the mage shouted kind of angry and gestured his men to attack as he started casting a spell.

Jeremy took his rather new (and rather cheap) short sword from its sheathe and whispered with a rather distressed voice: "Looks like we'll have to fight."

I drew my rapier and made a quick thrust towards my opponent. He dodged and I received the blunt end of his curved sword right into my face. I rolled over the ground and took a defensive stance. This guy was experienced in dirty fighting and had some swordsmen tricks. I was ignoring my other possible opponents, since I only knew dueling and not war swordsmanship.

I pulled my left sleeve with my left hand to hold on to the dagger, hidden in there. I made a lower downward sweep to wound my opponent. He parried it and punched me in the face with his other hand. This guy knew how rogues fought. He took the advantage and rushed forward, slashing and cutting at my limbs and joints. I frantically defended and dodged his blows while stepping backwards, slowly. He got overconfident as I weakened my counterattacks. He made a decisive forward thrust, going for a sideways sweep. I dodged and turned his stretched arm against him.

a sickening crack was heard, when he dropped his sword and I made him meet the blunt end of my knife, knocking him out. "That's how we fight!" I shouted at him, sheathing my rapier and dropping the dagger back in my left sleeve.
