With each day spent resting the more anxious everyone got to resume their journey. To pass the time Robert tought it would be a good idea to teach the wimpy bard and brawny lizard a few things about sword fighting. One night, the missing monk Shariya arrived at the camp with a mysterious girl. Shariya never was much of a talker, but when compared to her new friend she was like a flock of fieldfare.

The barbarian, Al'quil had stayed with Jeremy and acquaintances though the rest of his own crew had left and now he was packing his stuff along with the others. "We'll journey along the mountains. There should be an old path in there that traders and pilgrims used to pass the borders of the two kingdoms," Jeremy announced. "It's a quick and safe path if you don't stray on to the troll forks."

The rise up to the path was daunting as the air started to thin out and the snowy peaks stopped being a distant dream, but a looming threat concealed within the darkening clouds. The path was there and in good condition too. Jeremy recounted the past disasters the group had endured and came to the conclusion that nothing on this mountain path could top a hurricane. Soon this would be tested, for a storm was coming.

Lightning struck the sides of the mountain as if it were nature's own chisel with wich it shaped a grand monument. The rag tag party cover as low as possible, so that the craftsman's keen eye wouldn't catch these specks on the mountainside. The storm raged all day. In the evening, they did their best to keep going untill they came to a sudden stop. They had come to a fork on the road. One way lead deeper to the mountains, while the other was cut off by a landslide. "We've been cut off!" Jeremy raises his voice. Why does it seem that everything always goes wrong on this trip? "Storms don't cause anything like this," some chattered. "You suppose a troll would block the road to lure travellers to its lair?" one replied. Jeremy remembers having heard some old drunk say that you don't get around trouble by standing still. These people are counting on Jeremy to lead the way, no time to be indecisive. They can't turn back anymore, they'll run out of supplies. "As much as it pains me to say, we'll have to risk the troll fork."

The fork turned out to be a labyrinthine network of troll trodden paths. Trolls are huge lumbering creatures that habit caves along the mountains. It's an old wives tale that they'd turn to stone in sunlight, but it is good to note that they don't come out of their caves during day and do not like light or fire. Not very intelligent, but strong enough to break stone and lob huge boulders.

That night Shalan was first on guard. He knew that if he were to fall asleep, he'd wake up diving headfirst into a gaping mouth. The wind blew a soft tune in the mountains. Shalan was beginning to doze off before, a foreign scent hit his nostrils. He could hear some manner of a chant along the clatter of metal and see torches getting closer. Shalan woke up the others, there are orcs about.

Robert immediately took out his rapier. "Goddammit, Shalan!" he cursed, because he just needed someone to act his frustrations upon. 3I can take out bandit scum, but orcs? Dammit!" Robert knew that his weapon would deal little damage to an orc. Perhaps he'd be able to crush the windpipe or pierce the jugular, but those were amazing feats done by master fencers. Robert was an elf and an experienced fncer, but doing it once would be hard enough, doing it against an orc warband would prove too harsh. He remembered the guild and didn't know which fate he'd prefer, though he was sort of leaning towards being brutalised by guild scum to death.

"Anyone have any ideas on what to do now? Alkar? You had any dealings with orcs?" Robert was being a bit panicky, he himself realised, but the stormy nights had wrecked his nerves and he felt himself becoming more and more defenseless.

Waking up from his uneasy sleep Huld peered at Shalan.

"Blah, in my homeland, we skewer orcs by the dozen and then lob stones at they're heads. But I think we can't kill any orcs, we don't have the right stuff for the job. I suggest we hide in the bushes and wait for them to scram, its a good thing orcs have trouble seeing in the dark."

Huld pulled the blanket he was sleeping in over his head and waited to sleep again.

((Note: Hulds least favorite thing in the world is to be woken up when he is sleeping, especially if orcs are doing the waking.))

"If you're gonna spill some blood, beat your chest!" *Dom dom* "If you're gonna spill some blood and you know it then be sure that you show it, If you're going to spill some blood then beat your chest!" *Dom dom*

Bejrthak, the Boastful: "Bwahaha! With chants like this, no beast nor warrior can match our spirit of battle!"

Faejin of Quotfar: "The cock that cries too early is the one to be had for breakfast."

Bejrthak, the Boastful: "The warnings of a known crone are the ones least noted..."

Hrelgar: "Oh, don't squabble. I thought it was a nice chant."

Faejin of Quotfar: "Whom breaks up the squabble is one of strong wisdom."

Bejrthak, the Boastful: "You're right. Not in ages has there been an apology as humble as mine."

Faejin of Quotfar: "The weak hold a grudge, the strong resolve. It was a nice chant indeed."

Bejrthak, the Boastful: "Yes, I think you sang very beautifully."

Faejin of Quotfar: "Only a fool drinks the honey dripping of another's tongue."

Bejrthak, the Boastful: "You have great strenght in modesty, but not even the mighty Ghelmock of yore could match throats with you."

Hrelgar: "Speaking of throats, we've arrived at the troll's cave."

Bejrthak, the Boastful: "I shall draw the mighty beast to the open where we surround it with torchlight and blades! It won't stand long against our might."

Faejin of Quotfar: "Go now and remember that the one with the greatest rush won't be the first to draw blood."

Bejrthak rushes in to the dark cave.

Hrelgar: "Wise Faejin, Jekrall in the back tells me that as the wind shifted he smelled feeble men."

Faejin of Quotfar: "Jekrall's nose runs like a river. We can't stop the ritual of hunt now. Jekrall may have a torch and relieve his suspicion."

((Boring story of how my NPCs dissappeared ahead))

Before we left

Al'Quil was on his way to Shandina's tent, the little elf had been inspecting the water they took from the river to find out what magic had been used on it. When he arrived at the tent however, he found all of Shandina's things nicely packed, the elf herself sleeping with her back against her bag, and Golaw standing over her and Aldrianda crying out loudly on the ground.
"What in *inset some God name here* name is going on here?!" Al'Quil asked
"Shandina finnished her study of the river water, and found out which magic had been used on it. Here's a note she wrote..." Golaw said and handed a small piece of paper to Al'Quil.
Al'Quil looked at the paper and the writing that was undoubtly Shandina's, except for that it was weak and wroten like it she was in haste while her hand was shaking. The note said:
"Al'Quil, the water had a terrible curse placed on it! Luckily the curse only works once on one person, except for if you fill parts out of it without drinking directly from the river first. The curse is a blood curse, more specifically a blood curse that removes one single type of blood from the veins of a person. Lethal to a single specied creatured, but to a half-breed like yourself, it only removes one type of blood. In your case: Your Drackiki blood. Because I myself have drinken the water, my elven blood is now being terminated as I write this. goodbye
-Shandina"

"Ohh" Al'Quil said monotone "Explains why Aldrianda is so down. Ohh well, guess we lost one more of our friends then. And I guess you packed her stuff Golaw."
Aldrianda's eyes suddenly stared at Al'Quil like spears.
"THAT IS ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY?!" She shouted hysterically "'GUESS WE LOST ONE MORE OF OUR FRIENDS'?! WHAT KIND OF A MONSTER ARE YOU?!"
"So, you packed her stuff Golaw?" Al'Quil said again, ignoring Aldrianda, who now stood up and hit Al'Quil in the face as hard as she could.
"To think the two of us are related!" She shouted before leaving the tent
Al'Quil had taken more effect than expected from the punch and had to take a few step backwards. He was not yet used to being just a unordinarily strong human instead of a half-giant. His nose started to bleed a little, but Al'Quil ignored both it and Aldrianda and turned to Golaw.
"So, what are you gonna do now, Al'Quil?" Golaw asked him
Al'Quil shrugged "I guess Aldrianda is heading back to home now that we lost three companions...."
"Yeah, and I'm gonna accompany her. On the way we're taking with us Elice, Shandina and Richard to give them a proper burial." Golaw said with a low voice.
Al'Quil laughed for himself "A proper burial, Elice would have slaugthered you for even suggesting that she was religious."
Golaw nodded "Anyway, we're just wondering what you're gonna do. After going to town I might head out after the armaments once again, or I will just go back to normal thief buisniess."
"I don't know" Al'Quil answered "I'm a mercenary, but Aldrianda ain't giving me another payment from now on, so I guess I'll head out for treasure. These guys we met, their on some kind of treasure search, or so I found out and I decided to join them. Who knows, if we find some ancient artifact I might be able to get my giant blood back."
"I see." Golaw closed his eyes and smiled "It's not like I was any good friend of Elice, Richard or Shandina anyway."
After that, I left the tent and went to ask Jeremy if I could join their group in their quest for treasure.

Al'Quil woke up to the lizard's, his name was apperantly Shalan, cry about orcs. He quickly stood up and grabbed his axe and cursed that he was not as strong as he had used to be, but he had gotten somewhat used to being a abnormally strong human who was still capable of fighting.
"Troll or orc, even with only human blood I will be more than a match for any of them." He said before walking over to Shalan. There, he stared down on the three orcs that had tourches and heard their conversation
"The ritual of the hunt. Ohh, that is some holy stuff right there. We have no need to worry, orcs usually don't attack other surrounding creatures while hunting big game. As long as we don't attack them we should be fine." Al'Quil said while lowering his axe.

Jeremy watched with bated breath as a small piece of light broke off from the pack. The small light cautiously wandered the dark night, stopping and swinging about every once in a while. It seemed almost as if it was looking for something and Jeremy doubted that an orc would drop his keys. Jeremy tugged his neighbour's garments and pointed: "Over there. I think it's coming this way." Jeremy took a moment to think about whatever would happen if the orcs were to discover them and cursed his bladder for all its worth.

Robert looked at the light. "I can check it out from up close, if you'd like." he suggested. "Unlike, ol' Conan over there, I don't believe orcs are a peaceful or civilised race. Even more so, I believe that if they found us they might want to eat us or mount our skulls on pikes or use our rib cages as shields." he went on. He threw a look at Al'quil, thought he saw a defiant look on it and spat back: "Oh, come on. We saw what happened at that village. I was up to my ankles in blood, there!"

"With my shadow cloak, I probably won't be noticed." he continued, not realising that he never explained to hs allies what the shadow cloak was or that they never saw him put it on with the exception of Ethan. "Though, as the leader of this expedition, I'd say it's your call."

Al'Quil turned around to the thief who'd just insulted him. He walked over towards him, slowely, with his axe moving higher and higher above the ground. As he reached the thief, he hacked the axe into the ground and sat on it.
"There is one huge diffrence between me and ol'Conan. Conan was a bloodthirsty barbarian who dressed in rags. I am a cold-blooded mercenary who kills for money and dress in real cloths. So remember that before you call anyone a barbarian, beggar filth!" Al'Quil told the thief.

Robert just came up with a great comeback: "Oh, don't mount my head on a pike, good sir!" but the moment had passed. He listened to Jeremy and nodded. He put on his shadow cloak and ventured into the woods. He was hidden from sight by the cloak and his light treading from his years of experience as a rogue and his elven heritage allowed him to walk silently. He hoped that whatever was out there didn't have an incredibly developped sense of smell. he ran through the woods on the side of the mountain, careful not to slip or cause too much noise, until he got close to where the source of light was. He encroached upon a tree with a lot of foliage around and tried to look at the source of the light without showing himself.

His cloak would hide him as long as it didn't make direct contact with the light.

Robert sees a large and muscular figure clad in the hides of various beasts. The creature turns and reveals a yellow, leathery face with a strong jaw and a flat nose that runs with booger. Definently an orc. The orc sniffs around the air untill he comes to face Robert's general direction and stops. Everything seems to stop when the orc heaves for air. "Ah! Ah! AH! ACHOOO!" The powerful sneeze resonates throughout the woods, scaring birds and woodland critters; leaving whatever on its path of destruction covered in snot.

Now the orc is confronted by a most peculiar phenomenon. The fresh mucus gleams in the dark, hanging onto what seems to be thin air.

Huld was about to fall asleep again when the woods resonated so hard he could feel the trunk of the three he was sleeping on vibrate.

He's had it, this mad brained treasure hunt doesn't warent his attention! Orcs disturbing his beauty sleep, ogres whacking his skull in, priests trying to steal his magic! No, he can't take it anymore, Brooks can shove his whole scouting plan down his throat. He is going back home, to the ever green half-ling  fields and that was final!

He was just threw off his covers and was about to go smack that orc so royally hard. When a sharp stomach pain kept him rooted to the spot. He grimaced and held his stout belly, only to find it completely intact. Without summoning his concentration, the flare appeared in the air. Not just in the air, but on the rocks, on his fingers, even on Jeremie's flute. Its rays fluttering. He felt hot sparks form from his breath.
And just as he thought he would never again move from the spot, the haze lifted.

"Its all from this dog eared plan, Shalan's ability to find uncontaminated ingredients was questionable at best. I will go into town, and get real food."

As he tried to arise once more to gather up his belongings and leave, the pain came on again, sharp undulating rays floated through the air like a pack of children dancing in a circle. Stomach pains rooting him to the spot.

All this time Huld was as still as a statue. No jerks of pain, no wild howling, just gaunt and unnerving stillness.

"The priest's curse! Its all that priests curse! Now I am stuck with this band of adventurers, no not adventurers, these... song writers!"

"Oh, sod it" said Huld aloud as he fell on his back, staring up at the open sky.

flavor

A lone wolf prowled the area. Large and black with golden eyes. It howls towards the sky. Tears flowing down it's cheeks. Sadness and pain shines in it's eyes while agony fills it's heart. Lonely it wanders of and disappears into the darkness of the night.
It was dark in the mountains, As the clouds blocked out the moonlight. Crows and ravens gathered on the branches of the dead trees. On a small field one could see traces of battle.
Blood filled and coloured the snowy ground. On top of the pile of corpses he layed. Thróin's battered body. Bloody and scarred he layed there. His shield and helmet shattered, his weapons broken and his armor and body pierced by nothing less than five large spears. His body cold, his limbs and face pale and colorless. His eyes dull and lifeless.
Around him lays the corpses of 36 orcs. Their body's cleaved, pierced and ripped apart at the hands of Thróin. A mighty battle and a terrible slaughter. He fell in the end but still, a smile is seen upon his lips. Sad and agonizing but a smile nonetheless. Because he fought proudly courageous and honorly to the last. True to his origins. His late father and mother and even his brother would have been proud of him. It was a good fight and a good death. He would now join his ancestors in the halls of Valhalla.

Robert was paralysed for a moment. He looked the savage orc square in the eye. "I never thought I'd die like this." went through his head and out his mouth before the thought was entirely formulated. he briefly considered Al'quil's suggestion that they're peaceful and wouldn't hurt a fly while this troll-huntng business was going on, but he looked at the orc again, still frozen in position anddecided to leg it. Elven swiftness counts for something, even if it's been watered down by a human parent.

He turned away and bravely ran away.
He tried to get to the original encampment as possible, not even bothering to look back. His daggers nd rapier felt so inoffensive right now.

Jeremy watched as the light danced frantically in the night, and seemed to be getting closer. It was hypnotic in a way. His trance was broken when a floating phglem crashed through the bushes. "Gah!" Yelled Jeremy and felt around for his sword. The phglem splashed its acidic bile around and almost hit Jeremy. Oddly enough the phglem seemed to undress and revealed a man underneath. "Robert, is that you?" the man was asked, but before any answer could be recieved a musclebound and tall orc wielding a lit torch and a shield charged in howling a terrible battlecry. The orc launched the torch at whoever not sharp enough to dodge and brandished a menacing blade. One could almost see from the orc's eyes the hormones twisting as he prepared for a rampage.
