Al'Quil kept walking towards the group that he now knew was a group of adventurers.
"My name is Al'Quil Redmoon, mercanery for hire. Came here to check if anyone was still alive, and I am glad to see that the slavers have abandoned the camp makes it easier to plunder for any food, water or medical supplies it might have." Al'Quil said
"Well, atleast their not slavers that is for sure. But these guys got a dangerous air around them...or, most of them do." Al'Quil thought
"...You said that you are adventurers? Another bunch who is foolishily looking for the armaments... or maybe a battle hungry group who traveled to these northern lands of war hoping to get a real taste of blood?"
Al'Quil stopped when he was standing right in front of Jeremy the bard who he looked down upon. Then he realized that not only was he holding his axe, but it was covered in fresh blood as well.
"Ahh right, I forgot. If you'll excuse me a movement." Al'Quil said and sat down upon a rock that just happened to lie around before he started cleaning the axe with a bit of cloth he had in his pockets.
"I ran into a few fleing bandits on the way back here you see." Al'Quil explained.

Chapter 4
Dinner, Strangers and guests

Huld watched the discussion intently at first.

The man who had called to them was called Al Quin.

His stomach growled loudly and he looked around. His back pack lay abandoned on a mossy rock.

He silently thanked whoever had retrieved it for him.

Walking slowly he reached the bag and swung it open. It not only held all his cooking supplies but it held his deep red crossbow.

He saw a rabbit glaring through some bushes.
His hunger drove his next move.

He loaded the crossbow before the rabbit even had time to blink.

A loud pitched yelp came from the rabbit as the arrow pierced its body.

Jeremy and Al Quin looked in his direction.

"Jush feching dinnah." he explained.

He went to fetch the rabbit and found that there was a strange mark on its paw.

A leaf with to wands made of intertwined roots crosing in the middle.

Most intriguing...

Huld grabbed the rabbit, dangling him by the feet, then swung him onto his back.

He thudded the rabbit on the ground in front of the group.

A pile of firewood was set in the next minutes and Huld lay staring at it.

He still had enough strength left for this.

The fire ignited. It was not the best flame he had produced but it would have to do.

Jeremy raised an eyebrow as he saw the flame ignited with no hand involved.

Huld pulled out the arrow and said to the group.

"Hop yoh donh mind teh woohy tastee in yah dinnah." (looks like its not Roberts lucky day )

Jeremy opened his mouth, then shut it. He then sat awhile in silence.

Huld impaled the rabbit again so that it could be suspended over the fire.

"Dinah willh beh readhy shoon, nowh whath teh helh hhaphened thath mad meh tolkh lik this?" said Huld

Al'Quil looked at the gnome cook who suddenly started talking like Grim, totaly un-understandable.
Al'Quil coughed before asking "Ehm...You wouldn't happen to be half-dwarf mr. gnome? And if you start telling a long story related to your family, I will knock you down, just as a warning."
"Gnoome?" Asked Huld looking puzzled.
He looked at the the group and said "Wah's a gnoome? Anh why sholth i telh ye anyhin booh me family?" cut in Huld looking again at Al'Quil.
The gnome looked up at him, he had to lean so much backwards that Al'Quil added "and there is no need to break your neck trying to look me in the eye, I can sit down."
"Imh oh halh-lin! Do ih look lik a hairy dworf to yah?"
Al'Quin looked down at Hulds feet which were covered in thick bushy hair.
"Umm...yeah..." Al'Quil commented and scratched his head.

Later, Elsewhere

Golaw finnished robbing the bandit leader's tentretriving the groups important items. No one would either complain nor notice the hugesmall chest of jewelry, gold and diamonds.
Getting to the spot where he left Al'Quil Golaw looked around and exclaimed "Now where is that big thickheaded brute?" right before noticing where he was.

Getting quite angry he walked down to Al'Quil and yelled "Here I am, retriving our treasures from the slaver's camp and when I come back I find you, sitting here EATING STEAKED HARE TOGETHER WITH STRANGERS THAT MIGHT BE SLAVERS!"
Al'Quil slowly laid down his piece of the hare, stod up and looked down at Golaw before pointing at the lizardman "If he is treated equally by humans it means that those humans are NOT slavers! Now where is my box?"
"Here" Golaw muttered before handing Al'Quil it "Now let's get a move on."
"You go right ahead, I'll just stay here for a little while and talk a little with these people. Just go back to the others with the treasures." Al'Quil said before sitting down again and continuing his meal.

Robert tried to get his bearings. Where was he? He looked around and recognised his comrades. Shalan looked quite hurt, as did Ethan with his hand...

Robert looked away and saw Jeremy, Huld and something that Robert would charitably describe as a monster. His senses must've been dulled by the experience because Robert wondered how he could not have smelled or heard him yet. He could hear them talking, but Robert only heard fragments of speech. Robert would normally close his eyes again, trying to rest a little, but not with that brute nearby. His eyes were still sharp, though, and he could see that the giant didn't mean immediate harm as his pose was relaxed and his weapon wasn't in split-second reach.

Robert tried to budge, but a splinter of pain coursed through his body. A slight grunt exited his mouth. He tried to check on his person. It seemed someone tore up his left sleeve and tried to fix whatever was left of his shoulder. His right sleeve was unharmed Robert wondered if the map was still concealed under that strap. Robert moved his uninjuredarm closer to his thighs and found out that his rapier was still there. Robert let out a small sigh of relief.

He suddenly heard a mention of the armaments of God, but luckily no one responded to this mention. 'They know when to shut up.'  Robert thought to himself. His senses seemed to be returning in a few minutes as Huld prepared. It had that indefinable smell of pine again...
He would probably raid an orc camp in desperate need of variety, if Huld was determined to mes sup their food again. Robert also started to smell the Barbarian, it was nearly overpowering the pine-smell, which meant that Robert was right. He smelled like an unwashed chimp.

Robert closed his eyes and suddenly heard a small shuffling. A familiar type of shuffling... It was light, but extremely weighed down. It was the sound of a greedy thief. Robert doubted he would've heard it if the person wasn't weighed down.

((will be continued. I just don't feel like writing any further or losing what I've already strained out))

He tried to shy away behind the rock. he cpouldn't afford to be recognised and, though he wasn't wearing a standard thieves uniform, his shadow cloak would give him anyway. Robert knew that the thoughts of him being a Shaded thief were small, since there were many different chapters in the guild and not all chapters were familiar with the others. Still, it would take one look at the shimmering to figure where I'd come from. Robert got his breathing under control and tried to disappear entirely from the field of vision of the source of the sound.

All this trouble for naught? Would he still be caught after so long and so profound an effort?

After a rather unfriendly exchange with the brute, the thief scurried away. He would have to pay attention to this one.He relaxed more and opened his eyes again. They were sitting there, eating...
Robert withheld a chuckle and just tried to get some rest. He dreamt of his master and Care again...

The arrival of a new person to the group made little difference to the not-so-holy druid. He, himself, was, as far as he knew, only a guide for them. He sat himself down for the meal.

"What made you talk like that, gnome? Perhaps those slavers took half your mind, and stuck half of someone else's in. Someone like..."

Ethan laughed out loud, not finishing his sentence. He just returned to finishing his meal.

Grabbing his staff, he pushed himself off the ground. He looked around, seeing everyone, or most, was around. Some time to himself would be nice. Using the staff as a cane, he walked off, into the trees. The wounds were healed, but some of the pain still lingered.

Shifting into a bird, he flew into the largest tree around, near the top, but one that could support his human weight. Shifting back, he sat there, staring at the horizon. The journey had been brought more enjoyment earlier than he thought it would.

Thinking about the journey, he retraced their path backwards, to where he first met up with them, then back further. The thought of Inga, or at least the one he named Inga, comes to mind. The thought brings back fond memories of that little snake.

Feeling a little sad, he is distracted from the current state of the environment. A gust of wind hits him, knocking him off balance. He falls, striking a few branches, sending him into a tumbling motion. Around the center portion of the tree, his leg gets caught between a couple branches, stopping his fall, but his body stays in motion, sending the back of his head into the trunk of the tree.

The world around him goes fuzzy, turning into a scene of black. It stays that way for several seconds, then streaks of bright yellow fall from the top of vision. Orange dots form on the edges of the yellow stripes, stretching out into horizontal lines. Upon them, pink dots appear, and grow into leaf-shaped figures. The remaining black turns brown.

All of a sudden, all the colors begin to move to the left, then tilt to the right. The shapes shift, though still keeping the same proximity with each other. As all the colors twist about, a new color begins to show. Blue shows up, gaining in size every second, every full rotation. He was falling. Falling into the strangest forest he could remember.

A strange feeling of sickness is felt as he attempts to shift into the first animal capable of flight he could think of. Nothing. He was unable to change. He felt the air sickness come on stronger. He saw one of the orange limbs within reach, attempting to grab onto it. His hand passed right through. A bit of worry came to him. The ground was seconds away. There was nothing he could do. Spinning head-first,his nose touches the blue grass, and he stops. He twists where he ends up, into an almost standing position, then resumes the fall. Stumbling forward, he regains his posture. He takes one of the pink shapes in hand. It has a cloth feel to it, but he also notices his hand is now gray.

"What is this?"

He glances around, taking in the strange forest. It was interesting, but still very strange. He couldn't help but explore the area. Though, he didn't get too far before a squirrel wearing white robes hops from a nearby tree, onto his shoulder, then to the forest floor. Not long after, several other animals sporting the same style robes emerge from the surrounding woods.

Soon, Ethan is surrounded by animals of various species. They are all staring at him, with serious eyes. They all shift into bipedal form. Some are human, others elf. He looks around, at each of their faces. They don't seem to worry him one bit. Though, he then looks at one of their robes closer. It is of the same style as the one he had killed fairly recently.

A female of the group raises her arm, pointing at him. Her lips start moving, but not a sound is heard. She looks like she is giving out a warning, at the very least. As her lips stop, she lowers her arm. The whole area melts away, leaving the blackness that was there before. Then, he opens his eyes. Everything is back to normal. Upside down, but normal nonetheless.

Shifting back into a bird, he flies down to the ground, and changes back. He reclaims his staff, and walks back to the group. All he does is sit back where he was before, staring at the ground.

It was a dark and stormy night. The sky was misty and green like evil when a lightning pierced through a flock of migrating birds, leaving a speckled haw on the stinking horizon. The acid rain continues to ravage what was left of the trees and it won't be long until this land is completely gray. A druid would throw away his bestiary and submerge his head on a bowl of his own excrements when it becomes apparent that all the animals have lost their form if not dead. This patch of desolation would not be so bad when one sees the various crystals that illuminated the darkness but bless the one who stays too long because the drow will mug him and incubate spiders in his mouth. Or one would simply want to avoid the ungodly stink that hobbled in the form of a cloud. Thanks to the foolish alchemists who took over this area, black gobs of various synthetic elements pollute the surface of what was once an opulent breeding ground for griffins and the Academy of Gotte which used to be a place of knowledge and prestige is now a screaming candle box of debauchery.
"The Otono," this is what the glowing sign says and it's a bordello run by the personalistic Countess Gonads. A botched experiment grafted three sisters into one personage and from then on they always insisted to be treated as one. There is much to be said on the Countess's operation on The Otono. Although it was hardly a shadow of it it's former state, for the customers it was the pinacle of prostitution. And the countess would see to the maintenance of this reputation even if it meant resorting to even viler deeds. She maintains the competition on lower ground through extortion, kidnapping and even murder. Of course she does not do these things by herself. Her lackeys are the usual bunch: Brutes, Stalkers, a few Assassins and some Gremlins. Among them however is a man worthy of interest. A strapping young brigand in his late teens, with long flowing hair up to his feet, a pair of eyes that radiated with energy and good fate, strong shoulders that could carry a horse and a gentle angelic face that made the ladies smile between their thighs. He is admired by all in the countess Gonad's private army and she is VERY popular with the house women. His name is Chou.

Despite Chou's god-given beauty he had always remained innocent. Most people, had god given them Chou's looks, would have squandered their time chasing tail. Not Chou. If not out on a mission he would be found in the library learning to read. Someone once told him that reading brings a lot of pleasure and indeed it was true. Although, Chou was still slow he was having so much fun. He's starting to take a major interest in birds. As he looked at the pictures he wished he was somewhere else. Some other place that smelled better and had more life. "Yeah right," he thought. If leaving this place was so easy he would have done it long ago. The land of Molochon is in the middle of a vast desert that stretched a couple of elephant life spans in all directions. It's like a prison. The only way one can get away from this place is through the magical gates which are guarded by goons. And Chou knows how expensive a single passage costs. So there was Chou sinking into his little fantasy Aviary when Beetle arrived holding a scroll in one hand and his face on the other.

"Hey Chou, are you ready to die today?," Beetle cried.

"Why so glum, Beetle?"

"ARE YOUU READY TO DIE TODAY?!."

"Err, no, I still want to live"

"Well that's unfortunate because we are going to die today!"

"Why?"

"See this?!" Beetle waves the scroll on Chou's face.

"Are you crying?"

"Of course I'm crying you idiot, read it!"

It was a mission. Chou, Beetle and some other mercenary were ordered to slay an assassin called Goro.

"Is he so bad?," Chou's eyes expand into whirlpools.

"Don't think that expression can fool me into calming down, if you know Goro you should be hiding from him not hunting him."

"Why?"

"What do you mean 'why' we are DEAD."

"Come on Beetle the clock is ticking."

"WHY MEEeee......"

Somewhere in Flan Market.
There is a gathering of various life forms.
Ramesh's clockworks doesn't only sell trinkets but also houses an opium den.

Normaly this isn't a problem for the Countess Gonads but as this new addiction has opened the mood of the locals to a higher pleasure it meant less horny individuals and more junkies.

A hulking Orc with rooting muscles, wearing nothing else but a spotted pelt across his groin, is filling the room with smoke and dry humour.

"Doesn't look so bad to me," Chou pretends to take a hit from the Snake Pipe.

The Orc picks up a female slave and starts running his huge warty tongue across her shoulders. His saliva has the viscousity of honey but has the color of gobline urine.

"Listen all ay youse! I hears some ay them Browthil cows are eftir my heid..."

The Orc's tongue hardens and thrusts through the poor slave's torso slithering between her breasts as blood trickled down the floor leaving black and yellow spots on the white carpet.

"Send me your beist killirs! This will be the fate of their Bums!"

"I'm out of here!" Beetle whispers as he furtively stands up.

"No you're not there is three of us and only one of him. The rest are just junkies, they are so high i'll be damned if they are even able to distinguish a dagger from their dongs."

"I can't die like that!"

"If we fail this the countess will have our heads, what difference does it make?"

"We'll die like men?"

"You're silly. On the count of three..."

"Wait wheres the Zahn?"

"One..."

"Don't you realize..."

"Two..."

"...there are now only..."

"Three..."

"TWO OF US!!!"

"Yess, I see two of youse is their more? I can make a "bum-beque" of youse skinny kents!" The Big Orc grins exposing his gums dented with blade marks.

"Say something cool, Beetle, quick!" Chou whispers.

"Errmm, ah, 'Submitted to the approval of the midnight society! I call this story: THE TALE OF THE BLEEDING JOKER!"

A customer got up and said, "What the bowels is the matter with these people!" Beetle and the Orc are filled with vegetables. Beetle, realizing what he said, is in the verge of throwing up.

"Don't listen to them Beetle it was cool whatever that wa... Woh!" Chou flipped sideways evading the lunge of the Orc.

Considering his girth, spinning back to face Chou was an unlikely move for the orc. He moved so fast it was unbelievable. Chou could only do so well in ducking the Orc's attacks. And whe Chou decided to parry , his dagger was shattered.

Beetle loaded his Shooter and tries to clear his aim. It was hard. The junkies were all over the place, stealing hits and Chou is constantly blocking his range.

Chou grabbed a chair and hit his oversized adversary in the face. It was futile. The Orc cannot be stopped. He headbutted Chou and Chou felt the heavens crash down on his head as his golden hair filled the air.

The Orc grabbed Chou's neck and began cracking more insipid lines.

Beetle saw this as an opportunity and shot at the Orc hitting him on the neck.

The Orc lost it's grip and fell on the ground dead.

Beetle walked up to his comrade. "Chou, are you alright?"

"You did it Beetle, you have slain Goro! Now that wasn't so hard eh?"

"That was too easy..."

"Now let's get out of here before we are caught!"

"We can't use the main door, the flatties have arrived!"

"This way!" A stout woman wearing a mask revelas a hidden door."

"Don't you remember?" Jeremy asked. "A gang of slavers took us and we found you in a pile of dirt." Glancing at Robert who was resting by the tree, Jeremy continued: "He was pretty badly wounded. Let him rest." He sat down next to the fire concerned by the wellbeing of his comrades. The fire was warm and inviting. Jeremy felt like he could fall asleep right there. No, he must stay awake. "Would you like to join us? I've got some extra bread," Jeremy asked the stranger while pulling out the bread underneath his shirt.

"Ugh... Waheverh theyh dith toh me mad mi hed dizy..." said Huld
He got a peace of paper out and started writing a new letter to Brooks.

He had little worries of anyone reading. Half the people he had met in these new lands didnt know how to read anyway.

He depicted in length the whole journey. His frightful scrape with the orc catapult, His new companions, the mysterious disappearance of the lady that had accompanied them awhile, and the groups seeming obliviousness to the fact that he, Huld had killed 20 bandits, not to mention that he had just made a fire with no arms close to the wood.

Still he felt like he was missing something, something important.

The group sat in idle chatter for awhile, while Robert sat by the tree not doing anything.

Slowly the talk would turn to why they were there and the rumor about the Armaments of God.

Huld would join in telling the story of his family being great adventurers and that he was out to best them all by getting the Armaments.

Just by listening to Huld, Jeremy could see the big cultural differences they had. Huld was so open about his family and himself that it made Jeremy look shady in comparison. Fatigue struck Jeremy like lightning when he remembered how long he has been without sleep. "I'll take a little nap, wake me up if needed," Jeremy said yawning and walked his way to the tree that Robert was sleeping by. It was daytime already and the sun shined. Jeremy could have slept next to Robert who was hogging all the shade, but decided not to disturb him. Though it might have been a good way to keep warm. He took a place by the tree and tried to get some sleeping debts paid.

Huld's story about his family and motivations kept bothering Jeremy. His own family hadn't been an inspiration for him. Through them Jeremy did learn the ways of reading, writing and mathematics, but his life had been planned for him. They were devastated when Jeremy told them that he wanted to be a poet. He had ran from his family, but is this the life he wanted? Jeremy no longer knew what he wanted. To write? To travel? Help people overcome hardships of the world with his song and poem, or to make a name for himself and leave his mark in history? Whatever his desire may have been, it lays in ruin now. Jeremy has cut his ties to almost everyone, his career is of no success and now the necromancer's touch taints his mind and body.

One shouldn't go to sleep with a full stomach; a nightmare will be sure to ensue...

The woman was carrying a dimly lit lamp.

Chou and Beetle had to watch their steps carefully as the path lay studded with broken bottles and sharp bones of unknown creatures.

Several crates are stacked everywhere like a hotel for vermins and Chou was anxious of the possibility that a spider might jump into the creases of his cloak.

The darkness seemed endless until the three arrived on what seems to be a sweatshop for undead gnomes sewing purple robes. Their needles and thimbles seem to be made of gold but Beetle's fear has temporarily overcame his avarice.

"Wait here," the stout woman instructed.

Chou and Beetle were silent and confused. A cloaked figure emerged from the shadows as the stout woman, in the same manner, disappeared.

"Assassins, do not be afraid, my enemies call me Goro but to you, "Marlet" will suffice.

"Goro? but..." Chou's eyes expand into balls of sapphire.

"The Countess Gonads and I are good friends. I could not be held responsible for the destruction of my own officers so she had you to take care of that for me. You, the charming one, Chou, is it? Your prowess has not escaped me. And you, the fat one, you are like an assassin's third arm."

Chou and Beetle begin basking in the compliments of the sleek figure.

"Have you heared of the Armaments of God?"

"We hear people talking about it but..."

"Are you tired of Molochan?"

"Well, who isn't?"

"Follow my assistant, Bubbada."

"This way," the stout woman in a mask unveils a magical gate.

As soon as the two assassins faded into the gate, Marlet whispered to herself. "Luck could be the way."

Roland walked out of the Badlands, the doorstep of the desert. The sun burned his neck and made him sweat. The stony cliffs led ever upward. No one who was born in the dessert(and lived there all theire life) really knew this, they were in the lowest point of Left-Earth.

Left-Earths major continent is a giant plato. Going to the coast there is a giant slope leading to the sea. Between the sea and the rest of the kingdom is the southern desert.

Roland took a few more steps up the rough stone.

He had reached the top of the cliff. He took one last look at the desert. A vast expanse of sand with a small dot far off.

A pittiful excuse for a city. Roland thought.

He turned.

Two intertwined trees made an archway, the green fields of the northern kingdom were beyond. The arch looked so much like a portal, but in reality it was just an archway.

Today he would have another reason to doubt the normality of the archway.

There was a flash of light. Two figures materialized behind the archway.

"*sigh* Another day, in Left-Earth." he said.

He galloped to the two newcomers.
------------------------------

Huld had finally figured out a way to talk as normally as possible, even with his jaw being half broken.

He fancied that his story sounded quite shallow but no one had questioned it yet.

Shalan yawned and got up. He walked to the nearby stream.

Some lizard heritage must have beckoned to him, because he lay down and slept in the moist ground.

Ingenious way to sleep, fool your body into hibernation. thought Huld.

As the others would drop off to sleep Huld would walk back and forth, pacing the camp.

"Where is that blasted bird?" Huld muttered.

Hours later she finally came by. Swooping down and landing on the  nearby stone. Her bright wings catching the moonlight, a ghost from home.

"Take the letter to Brooks, he'll finally be happy." said Huld tieing the letter to the leg of the bird.

"Go, fly low and unknown."

With those final words, he put his backpack under his head and, exhausted, fell into a doze.

"So much light."

"Does this kill fat people?"

"Maybe."

Shards of different colored light pass throught the two assassins as they slowly materialize on the other side of the magical gate.

"It's warm...." Chou feels the energy of the portal wrapping around his body, shredding his cloak.

"It feels good. I want to go in and out of this gate again and again and again...." Beetle looks at his body and remembers looking at his twin brother through a glass of water.

"I'm seeing angels, a host of them, circling on my corpse like a pack of hungry vultures, hungry and naked, waiting to feast on my soon lifeless shell."

"I'm seeing a topless princess with jet black hair, riding a pristine draft horse. Her chest is sparkling with sweat and desert dust and she's coming towards us like a shy little siren."

"I'm seeing her too! She has a bow. She's not just some woman. She must be a warrior."

"Ah, warrior women, they have beauty and power, what is better for men?"

"I couldn't say there is. Look at her scars, she must have gone through a lot, defending herself from covetors."

"I've heard slavery is rampant in this part of the desert."

"You've been in this parts before?"

"Nevermind. Just look at her, all slow and regal, she must know how beautiful she is."

"You know what Beetle, my stomach is spinning, this must be love.

"She's out of your league...."

"You may probably be right...."

"Here she comes...."

After a flash of white light, the teleportation was complete. Chou and Beetle fall down into the ground, unconscious.

Now walking calmly to the unconscious figures, Roland looked at the sky to see the orange light of dusk.

Around this time the gnolls would come out.

Gnolls were the warriors of the desert, and consequently were at war with Countess Gonads and her city.

They had theyre own ethics, the gnolls, but they did not seek justice when they thought about the Countess, they were seeking the thrill of battle, which was theire greatest legacy.

Gnoll raiders would ambush the roads daily, those not careful would wind up with considerably less cargo.

It was why the portal in the city actually stood today, the rich nobles didnt want to have to fight the gnolls to get out of the city, so the portal was built.

The gnolls stretched far beyond the Badlands, and this was where you could count there were more.

He passed through the archway and felt his spine crawl. Whoever had put these trees here had made a cruel joke.

He reached the bodies and saw that they wore the same general clothing as the inhabitants The Otono.

The portal out of the city must have malfunctioned, if theyre all the way out here...

What should he do with them?

He was conflicting with his own morals.

Should he put the humans on his back and carry them to civilization like a common mule?

Or should he let them be eaten by gnolls?

He decided to do the previous, with any luck no one would ever have to know.

He rode out to the nearest tavern, the humans riding on his back.

Life was unbearable for Mr. and Mrs. Baker. Yes, they were good parents as far as parenting wass concerned. They worked like horses each day, Mr. Baker was an inventor while her wife ran a small apothecary. They gave young Chou the love every child deserves and even saves up to one day send him to an academy outside Molochan. "Anywhere outside Molochan is better for anyone," the Bakers thought. If there is ever a city with everyone's morale falling on the negative then it is where the Bakers have found themselves under the hot sun, at the back of some some ugly hut, trading their beautiful three-year old boy for two magic portal tickets. Mrs. Baker was crying but there was no other way. At least they thought Chou would be better in the hands of the Countess rather than themselves who had nothing but a cold shed and a few pounds of junk to their names.

Even one year-olds can recognize their parents but if one is ever adopted by an assassin who would dip his baby on a vat of corn and milk, say a few magic words, then blow hashish smoke in his face everyday until he is 'seasoned enough', then he would never have to look for mundane things like 'family' any more. In fact not even 'fun' or 'childhood' has ever made sense for Chou who is just waking up from portal sickness.

"What happened? Beetle wake up."

"Eh? What? Where are we?"

"I think this guy just rescued us," Chou pats the furry surface of this half-horse, half-man creature they were clinging on.

"Really? Hey you there! Where are we?"

"Don't be rude, Beetle."

The mysterious creature looked at the two of them.

Beetle was going to say something tackless but Chou covered his mouth.

"Excuse me sir, my name is Chou and please don't mind my associate Beetle here, I think he is still dizzy from portal travel, can you please tell us where we are going?"

"I was hoping you knew. You collapsed back there, we can talk later its not safe here, now get to walking." said Roland who bucked and let the two men fall down.

They met no creatures on the way but it got steadily darker.

Finally after a silent hours walk they got to a pub.

The light burned brightly and merry voices were heard filtering through the open door.

Roland and the other to pushed it open and the whole pub looked to see who it was.

A row of cheers came up.

"Ah, more people been escaping? Great, great... Roland! I havent seen you here in awhile, found any treasures, or exotic women?" said the bartender who sidled to the new arrivals.

"Not all my adventures turn out princesses and chests of gold, but i did find some rather attractive mermaids, and i gave them directions to your cousins, if you hurry you might catch up with them " said Roland who laughed as the bartender ran for his boots, but he seemed put out when Roland told him the truth.

"Sneaky devil, you two be new around here, i suppose Marry showed you the portal?" asked the bartender who went behind the counter and pulled out two mugs of cool ale.

"On the house, I suppose you boys dont have any place to go for awhile unless you want to ride Roland, il let you use Goroh to get to
Agliath." said the bartender who now started polishing the counter.

"Whose Goroh? asked Roland puzled.

"The mage guy over there, You see Roland, a few days after you left, the ale knights(a collection of bartenders in Left-earth) and the mages guild decided to end Countess Gonads reign. You may ask why this was arranged, well the queen(also the head of the mages guild) didn't really want her husband to go running over there in case he got a change of heart. Well, the countesses army is to big to be faced head on, so we are leaving her a few slaves short, over time she will be left with very few slaves to spare for her army.
Its simple really, some of our people lead the slaves to the portal that is sustained by a few mages and they materialize somewhere in this area, we take them in, and a mage thats placed here teleports them to the nearest bar, and so on. Its surprisingly turning out to be good buisness because most mages need to be drunk so as not to be harmed by the effects of opening a portal, of course this means that theyre aim is a bit off, but the money just keeps rolling in, and pretty soon we will be opening even more pubs!" chattered away the barman who by this time had wiped the counter spotless.
"But, The queen isnt really happy with our slow progress, she has given a public invitation to all who wish to apply for a job to go to Agliath. I dont know what shes got in store, but if you want you can go find out. The next portal opens in an hour" said the bartender before attending to another customer.

----

By this time the smell of ashes had drifted over from the slavers camp to theirs.

Huld woke as the smell reached his nose, he decided to go investigate the source.

Everyone was still sleeping, even Shallan who was lying in the mud.

Somehow, even with his grievous injury Robert had fallen into a heavy snore.

Huld walked lightly so as not to wake them.

Soon he was at the slavers camp, ashes littered the ground, many animal bodyes littered the ground, but even more human bodies.

Naked bodies of slaves lay hither and dither, acompanied by the metal clad slavers.

An Ogre lay dead, with a few men trapped beneath him.

Huld headed for a ripped tent that used to be the armory. There he found it had been striped clean, however there was still some weapons, and peaces leather armor left.

Huld picked up a leather strap that had thin ringlets that were perfect for holding arrows.

Huld strapped it to his chest and loaded some crossbow bolts in it.

He looked around but found nothing that he could use.

However, there was a flute hidden behind a box.

He had never learned how to play a flute, but supposed Jeremy would be happy to compose some music with it.

When he returned, they were still all asleep, so he threw the flute on Jeremie's lap.

He then sat down and started to make breakfast, sparow eggs and toast.

"This is all intersting, barkeep, but mind telling me where the bog is?"

"Great, you have to wash your hair, I need to go too, I'm not much of a beer person."

Chou and Beetle excused themselves from the company. People can wash themselves in an old stable that was converted into a restroom.

"Do you realize that the spellheads are plotting against the boss," Beetle squawked.

"Yes and we've been led to believe that we are part of some great mystery hunt."

"Did you see that place? It was crawling with spellheads, we'll have to lay low."

"But subtelety isn't exactly one of your strong points, eh Beetle-man?"

"I coudn't believe the boss is notorious even in this area! For God's sake, it's not like it's the only brothel in Left-Earth, what is the queen thinking? And that Marlet wench, she has to be in this as well. Giving free portal rides to 'slaves' to shave the Otono's army! It's sort of sly... in a fly-on-stag-snow sort of way! Haven't they heared that Molochans breed like goblins! Pathethic!"

"Keep your voice down, anonimity is our only advantage."

"Tell me that, why don't you? Here's what we are going to do. We play along for a while and we'll make them believe that we sympathize with those wand-shagging fruitfairies and when we get close enough to the queen, we jump right our of the bushel and cut a nice and juicy smile on the head cocote's neck."

"It would be hard but we could be heroes."

"And why would you want to be a hero in Molochan? We're not doing it for trunkjobs, we are in this for the money! You don't understand what we are getting here, we'll be swimming in money!"

"And we could be partners with the boss!" Chou's eyes expand into bulbs of blue fluid.

"You know what, sometimes I try to convince myself that you are only pretending to be a dolt because you think its cute. Let's go back to the bar."

Chou and Beetle approached Roland who was enjoying a drum of ale, an entire drum just for himself. They tried to appear as hard and civil as they could. Chou had to talk for the both of them as Beetle lets his nerve get in the way of conversation so easily.

But before Chou could even open his mouth, Beetle began talking, pretending to be well-manered. Cultured. Couth.

"This is not to sully the good countess's name but as lowly henchmen me and my associate are usually sent on very dangerous missions
and come out underpaid. We get full meals on a daily basis, five times a day even, but it's just that we don't get anything extra for the amount of risk we are taking. We have to watch out for the future you know."

The bartender could see what the plump bandit was up to and suggested that they should stick with Roland who was looking to travel to Agliath. The two assassins excused themselves.

"How convenient, isn't the queen on Agliath?"

"How should I know, Choux?"

"They were talking about it earlier. And please don't call me Choux."

"Alright Roland my friend! We heared you were going to Agliath, mind if we tag along?"
