Shariya was walking beside the young woman supporting her since she was unable to stay up by herself anymore. Little did the others know that Shariya had been practically carrying her for the last two hours. She stops and slowly helps her to sit down on a fallen tree beside the road. Then she turns back to the others.
"This is too much. We must have a break. I am so exhausted I think I will fall right into Roberts arms if we walk another mile.", she takes an admiring glance at Robert.
"And while that isn't necessarily such an unpleasant event...", she turns to Jeremy.
"...it doesn't seem many of us are doing any better."

Al'Quil sighed at when he heard his companions talk about how exhausted they were.
"Really, how was it that a group of untrained people like you even decided to travel to this coldern wastelands?" He said as he stopped and felt that his knes where about collapse under him.
"Damn the creator! Why did I lose my Drackiki blood?!" he thought.
Then he heard one of the woman say something about falling into some person named Robert's arms and Al'Quil remembered something.
"Robert...?" He mumbled "Yes, that's right, one of my old companions, one named Golaw, mentioned the name Robert when we met this party! Or did he mention it some other time...hmmm..Lets find out"
He turned to his companions right about the time the beggar said something about walking another few thousand feet, and Al'Quil hummed inside himself as he spoke "Oi! Is there a person amongst you named Robert, and if so, does the name 'Golaw' or 'Gold Claw' say anything to you?"

"Hey, Conan! that be me!" Robert said with a mocking tone, while extending his right hand to him. He kept up the same posture and tone of voice, though, someone skilled in reading people would have noticed a small straightening of the back that signified alertness. Golaw... Robert remembered Golaw and he definitely wouldn't want a link to be drawn with guild scum. He just needed to be calm. There are plenty of Roberts in the world, what are the odds that a desert dwelling thieves guild member is looking for treasure in the high north?

"And no, I've never heard of that name before. Why so?"
He added with a tired half-smile on his face.

Al'Quil dropped his bag on the ground and sat down on it "Well, Golaw was one of my other companions you see, and somewhere on our road I think he mentioned the name 'Robert the spy', or was it 'Robert the sly'..No wait, it was 'Robert the spit'...I don't really remember, and I don't feel like thinking about it right now. Anyway, the point is he mentioned a Robert, and I can't remember when it was, so was just wondering if it was you." Al'Quil gave another yawn and mumbled while yawning "If so I would have to take extra procautions when it comes to my wallet."

"I'm sorry to say I'm not your man. I'm just Robert, a wandering vagabond and, though I admit I may have done things I'm not very proud of, being a traveller and all without a lot of money or fancy clothes or a good education, I never robbed or deliberately hurt someone." Robert said, him trying to be very sincere in this. "I would never make my name as a thief I'd rather earn some honest money and travel further on that or, alternatively, I'd beg for it, but my features aren't that sympathy-inspiring as you may think." he said. His face quickly regained some form of balance and his voice got stronger again as he said: "Now, Al'quil, who was this Golaw you speak of and why would you assume anyone who he knows would be dangerous to be around with?"

Robert felt bad after saying it, not for lying, but for making excuses, trying to look sincere and taking the barbarian's remarks too seriously. He had decided to focus the attention more on Al'quil, lest he be exposed as Robert, the Thieving Lying Bastard.
Bad lie, should he be exposed, would he need to fight?

Robert, the sly? Didn't the necromancer say something about a Robert, the sly? This Robert has been a bit suspicious since the start. What was that whole shadow cloack thing? Whatever the case was, Jeremy decided not to think about it too much. Robert had saved him a few times already so he can't be all bad, can he?

Later in the day...

Ugrok: "The flowing nose path has lead us here, but no sign of Jekrall."
Traggar: "We search!"
Ilger: "Brothers! Jekrall is hidden in the bush!"
Ugrok: "Crippled and slain by a blade!"
Ilger: "This was no fair battle! Jekrall was lead to a cowardly ambush!"
Traggar: "Raargh! We must honor our brother! The cowardly blade that slew Jekrall shall be the first to break against our might!"

Jeremy and the gang had a good rest, unaware of the maddened orc brothers tailing after them. It turns out that Jeremy was not so wrong about the road to Athkathla. It was just a few miles away. The road was a very pleasant change after having detoured through the dreaded troll forks. The road was well kept, wide, the guards and passers by greeted them nicely, while the scenery consisted of vast green plains with thick forests in the background and golden fields of rye and oat as the city got closer. However this did not last for as long as Jeremy might have hoped. After the city, they would be on their way to their last sanctuary before the everfrozen wasteland.

The city was famous for three things: Its stonework, its markets and its dwarven, gnomish and half-elvish minorities. The city had strong walls and the stone-paved streets and market openings of the city were smooth as if each stone was individually trimmed for the spot it occupied. Great statues of past rulers were scattered around and sections of the city were named after them. The markets were filled with goods varying from the local baker's bread to strange scrolls from across the world along with foreign clothing and weaponry.

The party was able to make it through the gates without too many questions and were welcomed by the rustling and bustling of a busy street. "We should find a place to rest and split up," Jeremy informed his companions. "We'll need some extra gear. The weather will get colder and there won't be many chances to resupply."

Hulds spirits were much improved by the human city on the horizon, and as the group passed fields of cows and sheep Huld's feet began to relax as the tough skin of his feet protected him as he walked, ever onward.

Through some woods, over one creek and around six hills, the part finally reached Athkathla. The city lay propped on a small plateau, a large cobble-stone path leading up to the main gates where a sleepy guard was on duty, mumbling to himself.

"Sixty-one sheep, Sixty-two sheep, Sixty-three sheep..."

Jeremy's voice gave a suggestion from Hulds right.

"Well, I think that an excellent idea!" said Huld, half eager to see more of human architecture.

"I'll hunt down the nearest tavern, get us a room then spend an hour looking out for rumors, so how about it?" said Huld looking up at Jeremy.

"I'm coming with you." Robert said. "I think I'm in need of some sleep and I might want to check out a room now to which I can return at any moment." He let out a loud yawn.
He took a few steps towards a sign that pointed towards the nearest inn. "Look at this. What kind of man calls his establihment 'The Nearest Inn?'" Robert said aloud. The city improved his mood a lot. He felt most at home, there. Even though the city didn't resemble the hustle and bustle of the southern republics, it still beats the wilderness any day of the week in Robert's mind.

"Right then, walk with me." said Huld who then started to walk at the best pace for his little legs.

Huld passed tons of villagers about they're daily work, carrying carts of wood and wheat, here and there. While some were busy at work, being smiths or bakers, and the children gathered round to see how they worked and all.

"So, do you know anything of this place?" Huld asked Robert as they walked unwittingly to the town square.

Robert tried to take note of all the faces that passed him by which was an impossible task, but pickpockets never go after people who are very wary and keep their hands on their pouch.
"Not so much. I know it's the most northern city in the world and that all you can expect from here are perhaps small villages. I also know that, since this is too high up to be of political interest, the law isn't very strong on an abstract level, hence there's a small mage commune here. I don't know much else. A city is a city and this is a dimly populated one with sturdy architecture." Robert spoke, his voice going fast, almost if he was a tad nervous.

Common etiquette would require him to keep the conversation going, but he kept quiet.

Huld pondered for a moment. Why would they ever build a city so far from the aid of the other cities? Were there no other cities to base the assumption off of?

Well Huld pushed the query out of his mind and gave his attention to the nearest sign. The sun glared into his eyes as he looked up at the words painted in black on the sign. Huld's brow was throughed as he made out the words Inn and Nearest. He was surprised Robert could actually read. Many of the folks here could not read the word beer if it had a picture of it right in front of them.

Huld then looked to where the sign pointed, a dirty back alley where the tanners must be keeping they're wares. A Half-elf was busily scrubbing some of the leather to try to soften it in the troth full of soap and water. The yells of  merchants in the town square could be heard even from this distance.

The Inn was around the next corner where the stink of leather was dimmed. Across from the Inns door was a vomit troth, convenient for anyone who has gotten to much beer in they're system. The Inn's door was wide open and out came some lively music that seemed to rouse Huld's spirit. People, not just people, but Ale, real, fresh Ale.

Through the rabble of patrons, hoping to get in some early morning drinks to keep themselves up enough so they dont die from theyre monotonous work, was a very loud juvenile of about nineteen.

“I personally have no idea why they let these snows in here!” said the red haired juvenile whose red hair shone in the sunlight.

“Were not snows, your men came into our land and married our women, and...” said a blond half elf who inherited his races trademark ears.

“Then your mother was a w****!” yelled the juvenile who must have been a novice at drinking, not even knowing how much you had to drink before being drunk.(judging by the lack of empty cups)

The juvenile had not even the time to blink as a sun tanned fist caught his abdomen. Immediately the juvenile caught back with a right hook that knocked the wind out of the Half-elf.

The whole Inn was gathered round routing for both belligerents.

Robert had the strange ability to walk through a crowd unnoticed, as he was demonstrating now. He didn't care about petty squabbles and he didn't care about race. Right now, his only concern was getting a room without being noticed by guild scum, washing his shadow cloak and getting some equipment with the money he had left. He wasn't some peace keeper.

When he reached the bar, the patron seemed a bit worried. "Don't worry, the kid can barely stand on his legs, no stools will get smashed." Robert said with an edge of irony in his voice. Though, the bartender seemed very occupied with what was about to happen. As neither of his companions seemed very inclined to intervene and all of the others were very excited about this fight, the brawl started, though it was a rathe runeven match, leaving the young kid unconscious after a few measly throws.

After he was dragged out and the half-elf ran away, the bartender let out a sigh of relief. "What'll it be, good sir?" he asked. "I would like to rent 8 rooms for me and my companions." Robert said underneath his hood which was pulled up. He didn't want to be spotted, though he might have given the impression he perhaps was covering his ears, though Robert hadn't inherited the elven ears. A good thief shouldn't have anything oustanding about him. Hence why thieves with an uncommon har colour dye their hair and why most thieves are dressed like beggars.

"Is there something I can recognise your friends by?" the bartender asked. "No need to worry about that, you can hand me the keys to the rooms and I'll make sure they reach my companions." he said. the bartender nodded and brought Robert a key chain. "All of them on the third and second floor." he had said. The fact this establishmen had three floors was rather exceptional. "Ermm... I'm sorry, but when you say second floor, do you mean..." Robert tried awkwardly to explain that th concepts of "first floor" differe from place to place. the bar tender caught on surprisingly quickly. "Listen, it's easy. You're here on the first floor. The second is upstairs. got it?" Robert paused briefly, wondering if he forgot something or should say something. He put money on the counter, for the rooms and for the discretion of the owner.

"Now, stranger what takes you all the way from the south to here?" the owner said, clearly cheered up by the extra fee he had received. Robert smiled. "I come from many places. Though, I am part of a team of cartographers from the southern republic of Zidanza." he said, "Now, I bid you a good day, good sir."
The man had noticed his accent, which was something outstanding. He decided to shrug it off. He went to Huld and handed him the keys. "Can you pass the other six keys to our companions? Thanks." Robert said. he went up to his room where he placed his rapier and some of his travelling supplies.

"Now... Let's wash that shadow cloak.." he said as he went downstairs again.

Huld took the keys nodding, the crowd was still talking ravenously about the outburst.

“The brat had it comin' to 'im you don't come a walkin into a bar and act as if you've been drinking the night away!”

“That elf should be put in jail he should! That lad ain't do nothin an he just punches him like he's a watchamakalit... War-dancer!”

“Ta hell wif both a ya! I spilled my drink all over me front and I need to get goin to work, roasted nuts to yaz.”

Huld stuffed a key into Al' Quils limp hand that was hanging at his side.

“Get you're act together for a moment, we ain't in Hyboria anymore, ill find us some place to get somethin usefull.” Said Huld patting Al'Quil's arm.

Huld made his way through the mass of tables and climbed up onto a chair near the bar table. The dark beer-stained table gave obvious marks as to the popularity of the Inn. Huld fiddled with his neck pouch and took out a silver coin.

“Was dis then? AL GET US SOME TURNIP ALE TO THE COUNTER, WE HAVE ANOTHER ONE! Now then, this one's awfully large fur a gnome!” said one of the bar keeps, his green eyes staring intently at Huld who opened his mouth to say.

“Half-ling, now, my name's Huld thank you very much for asking.”

“Half-ling? I heard tales bout you guy's from my great uncle down south-east. Never get many up 'ere, fact, I think you the first one to ever show up so far north!” said the bar keep who waived away one of the waitresses who brought some turnip ale.

“So what brings you here, so far from the good farm land?” said the bar-man who now started to clean a damp metal mug.

“The first thing that brought me here is a good drink! The second I can tell you after I get the first.” said Huld pushing the silver coin in front of the barman.

“Right you are sir!” said the bar man chuckling and putting down the mug to get some ail from a barrel. He placed the tin cup down before Huld who took a sip and then smiled with satisfaction as the taste of the ale brought pinpricks to his tongue, as though it were celebrating the return of the beverage.

“So what's the second?” asked the bar man who began once more to put his muscular hands to work.

“Believe it or not, I've been sent to find out about these new people that our at our borders, and I thought of meandering up into the north just to find out how far the place stretched out, This is where it ends!” said Huld taking one more sip of his drink.

“Why, thats an awful long journey, Mr. Huld, what do you think of doing now?” asked the bar tender whose green eyes shined, throwing his white hair into relief.

“Traveling the surrounding country, but first I have to find some warmer clothes! Would you happen to know a place like that?” asked Huld who took a couple of more sips of his ale.

“Well just nip on down to the Fur and Lure, huntin supplies, they got some awfully great fur cloak's and if you want, some leather vests with rabbit fur on the inside, and if your goin somewhere real freezin, get yourself some woolen jackets, cuz up here we have some mean winters. Big place,  two floors, great bear at the outside stall, cant miss it!” said the bar tender.

“And if you need some extra protection from the other threats around you should get some armor from the nearby smith.”

Depositing the silver coin in a tab for later, Huld stopped to go to the third floor, unlock his room, examine it and then headout to find the rest.

Al'Quil stopped in the middle of the floor and watched as the battle started, he made some quick thoughts about how the battle would unfold and was proven right when the helf knocked the kid out. It was then that the halfling sticked something into his hand and said something. The halfling was obviously grumpy.
"Hyboria...?" Al'Quil pondered for a movement as he looked at what the halfling had given him, it was a key to a inn room. Number 25 from the looks of it. "Sounds orcish..."
Then it struck Al'Quil, from the little orcish Al'Quil knew and he walked over to the halfling and sat down besides him.
"You could've said that you know orcish before we went here, little friend." Al'Quil said "But what do you mean, 'this ain't Hyboria', of course it is not. Hyboria is the orcish name of the gnomelands, and I've never even been there."
Al'Quil turned to the innkeeper and ordered a drink before turning to the halfling again "And one advice...Huld, that's your name right? If you don't want to become one head shorter I suggest you get rid of your irritation. Here, if you talk to the wrong guy in the wrong tone then we won't even find your remains, trust me on that one." Al'Quil said in serious calm tone.

Huld then exited the room with his bundle of keys in his pouch pocket.

((Notes: Hint bomb has been dropped for Al' Quil, he can try to find out more about how Huld would know at all or just shrug it off.

Jeremy made his way up the stairs to his room and on the way saw Robert with the crumpled pile of dried snot that was Robert's shadow cloak, but Jeremy had better things to worry about. In the embrace of privacy he'd be safe to inspect what had come of his left arm. The door is shut and Jeremy's shirt is open. He feels around the grey mark. It has spread further down his arm and it's been getting harder. What could this be?

Upon reaching the city, Ethan went off, exploring the place on his own. It had been a long time since he last was even around this place. There were a number of places he didn't recognize. Though, having only been around, or over the city in the past, he hadn't picked up much information previously anyway.

Ethan made sure to find a few alleyways he could use to make any great escape, if he should find the need to do so. He could see one building with more smoke coming out of it than the others. The building didn't appear to be on fire. Not yet, at least. Must be some of that metal work some of these city folk do, he assumed.

After a while of exploration, Ethan entered the inn the others had found. He came in with a smile. He assumed he would find at least one of then in such a place, at some point in the near future. Though, they were there already.
