"So you think you can do this?" Limp asked. he was always sure about his student, except at this point. He was in doubt. Was he just making up a lie in order to survive?
"Yes, I think I can." Robert said with more conviction than he'd ever shown in his life.
If he was lying, he was delivering the most convincing lie he ever pulled off.
"All right, I shall help you with the supplies, but since you won't come and pledge your allegiance towards the Guild, I can't call back the Hounds. I shall deliver at the northern entrance, you just make sure you come out alive." Limp said firmly. He hoped he was making the right choice.
"How much danger am I in, right now?"
"Three Guild members are already present, excluding me. I don't fight." Limp said.
"Did you involve Care?" Robert asked, his voice heavy.
"She's already downstairs, but, relax, she doesn't know you are here." Limp said.

"Why are you guys going so far up north?" Care suddenly asked. "There's nothing but rock and ice there!"

Somehow, Jeremy failed to expect these kinds of questions. Lying wasn't his bravura so he'd have to improvise. "We're looking for Barry's treasure of course! Hahaha!" Jeremy jested and tried to nudge his compatriots to play along.

"Treasure?"

Ethan looked at Jeremy, a little puzzled, but then returned to his usual smile.

"Ah. Yes. You all want your treasures. It had a name, though? Alright. I am just going along for a bit of fun. So far, there has been plenty of it. Something a little worrying too, but I am feeling better from that now. As well as that other thing. I am thinking about making a friend later on."

Ethan grabs a roll, tears off a piece, and tosses it into his mouth.

"Too bad it will not be anything as great as my last friend, but it will have to do."

"Well, first I need to know who I'm travelling with." she said pensively. "Well, let me start telling you about myself first." she said.

"My name is Care. I have travelled great distances and I have learned many things. Not accounting my personal charm, I am an excellent knife fighter and have only found my equal in my mentor who abandoned me a few years ago and I have only improved since then. I can coax locks and find traps. I carry some money and decent equipment with me at the moment. I can move silently and quickly. I can carry my weight and this weight is light." she presented herself. "I do not see anyone here who knows his way around locks and traps, so I suggest it's better if you take me along. These treasures of demi-gods tend to be well-protected, you know?"

She was confident and eloquent. "Now, I know you can't wait to take me on your team, but first I have to know who you all are, what you can do and how you intend to find the treasure." she said with a smile and a curious look in her eyes. It almost seemed as if she was looking at everyone at the table at the same time.

"With Care there you already blocked the most obvious exit. It would keep me in this room more effectively than the Hounds." Robert said.
"It wasn't intentional of us, Robert. It's a combination of coincidence and scarcity of taverns that made her come here." Limp said.
Robert nodded and drew his blade.
"So when are they coming?" he asked.
"They're waiting for my sign to tell them the negotiations have gone wrong."

I also plan the travel route with some advice on shortcuts from Ethan of course," The bard introduced himself and beckoned his comrades to do the same.

"Shariya Nightglow from Lathanders order of Morning Monks.", her crimson eyes dig themselves deep into the girls own.
"I've provided some sort of medical knowledge in the past but after Ethan here got around I've just mostly been tagging along. This party desperately needs a feminine touch so I'd be happy to welcome you on board.", she smiles prettily.
"Oh but we aren't all down here. If you all don't mind I think I'll go get the missing part of our band.", she rises and heads to the stairs with Carey still hanging onto her sleeve.
"When I get back you have to tell me with whom you traveled here. Surely they too would be of help.", she notes before vanishing to the stairs.

"What's taking him so long?" a heavy voice barked.
"Relax, Gorm, you know the old man has a soft spot for Robber. It makes sense that he's taking his time. You know, it's the last time they'll see each other." a softer, feminine voice replied.
"If the worm is that scared about preserving his life, then he should just take up the offer." Gorm replied.
Shariya then heard a heavy sigh and the woman that now entered her vision gave her a knowing glance, as if to say: "Boys will be boys."

"I'm sorry, my dear, we can't let you get away now that you've seen us." she said. the woman had blue markings around her eyes and her hair had several blood-red streaks. She stood next to a very big creature that was hard to make out in the darkness. "Minx, I'm counting on you to take her out, you're the quiet one after all." the woman said.
Minx?
And at that moment a figure in a long black cloak appeared behind Shariya at the end of the stairs. She couldn't rush back towards the others at this point. The hands of the creature extended into metal claws. "With pleasure." the shape had said in a muffled, unidentifiable voice, as if the creature wore a full-face steel helmet. Gorm and the girl still waited by the door for the signal, as Minx closed in on Shariya, striking at her with the claws and long knives that seemed to appear and disappear at random.

The smell of old blood lingered from the two persons in the hallway. From somewhere else too. Behind! I pull Carey forward just in time to see metallic claws hug air where she was standing just a while ago. I can feel the a faint chant fill my head. She's starting. This isn't good. This isn't good at all. I deflect a knife blow with my left bracer. With a thunk the blade gets stuck to the wooden wall. I could easily maneuver around him myself but Carey can't blink. Tsk. I block a his claws with my right bracer and uppercut him with my left. A screech echoes in the hallway as my knuckle scales grace the armour underneath his cloak. Annoying. I blink over his descending claws and kick him to the head with both of my legs. He stumbles back. There. A door on the left. I punch the door with my right hand. The hinges break and the door flies to the other wall falling down. I grab Carey by the waist and dive into the room evading the armoured assailant. The voice in my head is rising. Damn. I can't afford to spill blood. Not now. Not here. I put Carey in a corner and flip the bed over her. She's safe anough there. I turn to face the assailant coming in through the door. A smile forms on my lips revealing my other fang. Time to get serious.

Minx appeared in the doorway, pulling wooden splinters out of his claws. He stood for an idle moment at the doorway just watching Carey and Shariya. There was no way to see what he was looking at. You could only guess the general direction from underneath his cloak. His arms made a rapid twisting gesture and several knives ended up in his hands. He threw them at her and rushed to make a flanking manoeuvre. He moved in a wide angle, brushed against a wall and kicked off against it to give greater acceleration to his attack. His boots somehow allowed him to kick off soundlesly at Shariya with his claws outstretched.

A small chilly laugh escaped my lips upon seeing the group of knives fly my way. Did he think this would even distrub me? Effortlessly I deflect the most middle knives and spin through. He charges at me with his claws at front. I evade him but he slashes his claws wide. I flip over and block with my left bracer. While upside down I drive my right hand down smashing it into his neck. He drops to his knees from the force. I land at his left side. He tries to slash at me but I step back and out of his range. He advances swinging his left claws in an arc but I block with my right and spin around him simultaneously sending a backfist at his head. His head snaps to the other side. He shakes his head and charges. I kick air with my right leg and continue the spin. The moment he would reach me I jump and blink. Appearing at his left side I kick him into the back of his head sending him headfirst into the log wall. He manages to reach out with his left hand to slow the collision but the weight of the armour is too much. Unable to stop he hits his head into the wall and staggers. He turns around and slashes at me with his right. I dive under it and to his left side. With his forward momentum it's easy to sweep him to the ground. He spins over my left leg head hitting the ground. With his armour's wight pressing on his neck it gives in and breaks with an audible crack.

After his imagination ran amok on why would Ethan tell Care she'd make a fine raccoon, Jeremy decided to speed things along. "Here is Al'Quil, a stout adventurer traveling with us. Say hi, Al'Quil!" "Hi," Al'Quil said as commanded by Jeremy. "And this is Shalan. He's a faithful companion with keen senses. Say hello!" "... Hello," the lizardly fellow says. "A halfling by the name of Huld also travels with us, but he isn't here at the moment and then there's Robert who is upstairs," Jeremy tells the new etrant in their roadtrip to the wasteland.

"I'd better go check on them," says the bard and gets on his way upstairs, but soon returns running and warns: "We've got trouble!"

"I see, then there is nothing more for us to discuss." Limp said.
Robert sat down on a small stool.
"Goodbye, Robber..." he said and left the room.

The door remained open as two other figures walked in. "Good day, Robber." a soft feminine voice uttered. Robert looked up at them and smiled as he looked at a gigantic... Giant and the woman Shariya had encountered in the hallway.
"Ah, so it is you two who came to take this job. Well, no surprise there. Where is Minx?"
The woman smiled. "He's currently delay-"
"Shut up half-breed!" the taller figure barked at Robert, interrupting his companion. He was about two feet taller than Robert and in his purplish skin there seemed to be several crystals embedded onto.
"At least I am not a construct." Robert said as he slowly stood up.
The woman gestured at Gorm. "Calm down, Gorm, he's just rattling your cage. If you remain calm for just a few moments, then you and I can go home in about thirty seconds. Robert stop struggling. You're going to die. deal with it."
Gorm relaxed at her words.
Robert smiled, fighting the urge to support himself by his bedpost. So much for his great plans if he was going to be destroyed by that heretic witch.

"Veshya, the Queen of the miscreants, has spoken. Tell me, what's it like to have no companionship but those aberrant abominations." Robert lashed out in desperation.
"Stop it, Veshya, let me do it. I've waited a long for this. The pup doesn't deserve merciful death." Gorm urged.
It seemed to be working.
"No, Gorm, just relax, it's almost-"
"Come on, Veshya, what else do you have lap dogs for?" Robert remarked as things started to get black before his eyes.
Gorm stomped on the floor and let out an inhuman roar. Robert instantly regained his sight. From Gorm's enormous hands grew several spikes and tendrils. "Let's dance, elfin boy." he said as he charged for Robert. Robert dove sideways, making Gorm dice empty air. Gorm wasn't just a lumbering brute though, he instantly recovered and continued his attack. Robert dodged several blows, but Gorm had experience. He manipulated Robert's evasive movement until he could make an attack Robert couldn't wriggle himself out of. Robert brought up his rapier which was sill in its sheath and blocked an attack, the raw force of which drove him into a wall.

Gorm let out a harsh chuckle. Robert wiped the sweat from his forehead. "You're a monster..." he uttered. "Haha, one can only truly appreciate my skills when you're my enemy." Gorm said with a flicker of pride in his voice. Suddenly there was a loud thomp across the room. Veshya's eyes widened. "MINX!" she uttered. With this momentary distraction, Robert saw his escape. He smashed through the window and vanished.

Gorm let out another roar. "Veshya! He... he just... Up and out the window..."
Veshya sighed. "I KNOW, Gorm. Don't worry. Sylvie will get him. Let's go downstairs. We have some matters to settle there. I called for some reinforcements. They should be here in two minutes."
"Why downstairs? No one saw us."
"Au contraire, mon chéri, Minx is dead."
Upon hearing this, Gorm's face froze. His lips quivered, before his face hardened. He uttered two words before he marched downstairs to kill everyone: "I see."
On his way down he encountered a feeble human half his size who ran at the sight of him. Trailing behind him was Veshya.

Robert pulled himself up at the tiles with a lot of effort. Once he was up on the roof he let out a sigh of relief. "Thank God, I'm safe for the time being."

He heard a gentle tapping above him. He looked up and saw a cloaked figure at the top of the roof. "I'm sorry to disappoint you, Robber." another female voice said. Robert groaned. "This is ridiculous. How did you get up here?" he said as he got up and went up to the top of the roof. The top of the roof was a very narrow ridge. He was reminded of the time when Limp taught him fencing. He could still hear him say: "Imagine you're walking on a tight rope."

"It was Limp," the female voice said, "'Put someone on the roof. Robert always escapes through the roof, so put a Hound on the roof.'"
"I see." Robert replied. "I'm afraid I don't recognise you. It's kind of dark and you're cloaked and I was blinded about thirty seconds ago."
The woman let out raucous laughter. "They said you had a way with words. Don't worry, I am Sylvina and we only met once on a raid on a caravan in the South."
Robert nodded.
"I remembered that you were the only guild member who was fairly competent with the sword. I thought you were even better than me, a novice Hound at the time. I learned a lot of tricks in the mean time and I'm curious as to how I measure up to one of the better thieves guild fighters." she said and then both were silent for a moment.
"Could you just wait a minute or two? Gorm wore me out entirely." Robert asked, breaking the silence.
Sylvina let out her hearty laugh again. "Sure, it's not like you're going anywhere and I want you to be at your best when you cross swords with me."
"Thank you." Robert said as he sat down again.
Both were silent for a moment.
Robert broke the silence: "So basically... You want to fight me to see how much you've prgressed over the years?"
"I imagine you learned a lot of things through the years as well." she replied.
"That may well be, but the truth is that even the best fighter who is part of the guild is still a pretty piss-poor fighter. besides, I only think I learned how to be a brawler with fencing and a fencer with brawling."
"what do you mean?" she asked as he peaked her curiosity.
"You see, a fighter from the streets isn't familiar with the best techniques to bring someone down on the ground, so that's where you can have an advantage if you've had proper training in combat arts. And the thing with fencers is that they think too narrow. They're always so shocked when I land my fist in their face or step out of their imaginary tight rope." Robert explained.
Sylvina quickly jumped in: "I know EXACTLY what you mean. I wear metal gloves, so usually I tap a feinted blow away or grab their swords and they NEVER see it coming."
Robert chuckled. "You know what I mean."

Robert let out a sigh and rose up again. "So how will we do this?" he asked.
"Well, I won't use my poisons, if you don't use yours, how's that?" Sylvina started.
That sounded very agreeable to Robert as he didn't have any posion. He was quite the layman in that field.
"Deal." he said.
Sylvina continued. "I want this to be a contest of swordsmanship, so I won't be using my throwing knives as long as you don't."
Robert briefly considered lying, but was overpowered by the urge to be fairly decent against her, since she allowed him to take a breather. "No promises there, honeybun."
"I'll have you know that knives are my specialty and I take an average of fifteen men down with my knives, before I draw my sword." she added.
"Okay, you have my word, then." Robert answered. "Let's do this."
Upon this, Sylvina removed her cowl and revealed the face of a rather plain girl with long black hair.
"A human Hound, well I never..." Robert said with a smirk.

Robert drew his rapier, took a standard defensive fencing position. The lithe figure in front of him drew a four foot long hacking sword and assumed an exotic stance Robert never encountered before. "Girl, you're just full of surprises." he said as he smiled. Sylvina ran over the narrow ridge as if she was on even ground and made a wide sideways sweep for Robert. Robert gracefully jumped over the sweep and took a few quick steps backwards and was barely out of range for two consecutive blows, rapid slashes, that would have costed Robert him his right arm and left leg respectively.
"I didn't take you for the big, strong type." Robert said.
"Oh, come on, Robber, you should know technique matters a lot more than raw muscle in these situations. Maybe if we meet in the next life, I'll explain it to you." she said with a pleasant smile.
"Oh, I'm sure that such a nice girl as yourself won't end up where I'll end up."
Robert didn't know how to tackle his opponent. He wouldn't be able to stay out of range for too long or he'd break his neck on the ground  25 feet below him. He could keep try to tip her over by parrying her long-ranged strikes, but he was pretty sure that her footing was too firm to fall for such a weak trick. Well there was only one option left then.
"All right, let's reiterate." she said and repeated her previous attack. She made a few steps at him again and made a large sideways sweep. Due to her sword's length, Robert still couldn't harm her like the first time. He repeated his jump from last time and as she moved to make her second swing he rushed close towards her. He narrowly avoided the base of the slashing blade as he came withing the perfect distance.
"This is what Limp taught me." Robert said. As he stared right into Sylvina's amazed expressioned. Sylvina herself was no stranger to combat at unusually close quarters and raised her fist to strike him, but Robert would have none of that.
"NEVER."
He locked his right foot behind her right foot. Her weight was on her left foot, as she held her sword in her right hand. At least that's what Robert thought.
"REPEAT"
Robert was right, her right foot was easy to lift. At the slightest budge, Sylvina's left hand stretched out, instinctively trying to grab for support.
"A MOVE"
Robert lifted his right foot with all his strength and pushed against her sword arm with his left hand.
Sylvina came tumbling down the roof top.
"because a smart enemy always adapts." Robert added as if her face was still four inches away from his. "Now, for the great escape." Robert said and he dashed across the roof tops for the gates that lead out of this city.

Al'Quil eated his food slowely, it was good to enjoy a meal that reminded him of his childhood. He felt that he was happy and content right now, sitting here in old Burt's(the bartender. Don't think we named him yet) tavern eating a piece of cooked sheepmeat. So happy, that he actually ignored everyone else except for when they were talking to him.
In his sub-concious mind, Al'Quil heard a screech of someone upstares, but it was soon hushed so he did not take to much of a notice, busy on the nostalgia road and all.
Finnishing his plate and his mug of beer, Al'Quil looked up and shouted to the barmaid "Seconds, please!" and then he took a look around the table finally noticing the little girl who had joined them.
"And this is a what?" Al'Quil asked the others with a calm, but discontent voice as he finally went through everything he had heard during his happy meal "Do we give out vital information to total strangers who just walk up to our tables and sit down? And one who is obviously a thief and, or assasin as well? I thought we had enough with Beggar Bob up there in the second floor?" keeping his voice calm and collected all the way through the rant Al'Quil turned towards the stairs "And what was that scream we heard earlier?"

As Al'Quil saw the strange monstrosity come down the stairs after the panicked Jeremy, he was removed from the moment and his mind drifted aloft. "Who are you, plaything of the gods? Gold could've bought 'you' a while ago, but now it seems that wasn't you at all o' victim of fate," calls a man with wraithly features, dressed in robes decorated with dark emblems. "I'm the necromancer Kelthraias and I can help you withstand your trial. We'll meet again, but for now you must fight."

Al'Quil woke up not sure if this hallucinatory rambler was of the most credible crop, but the Hounds cut any immediate plans to meditate on this matter short.
