Ground and pound, kickboxing/boxing or brazilian jiujutsu. The most common (effective) way to beat someone in an MMA match, yeah. Besides, you don't really wanna chance anything against a pro fighter in the cage. Chances are you'll get your ass beaten if you fail. But yes, I do agree that simple usually = win. As long as you do fight the simple in a good way.

I do think however, that pressure points would be a great way to get OUT of a G&P situation, when you are at the bottom. When someone has a full mount against you you'd wanna get out quick!

I don't advice it from experience. Trying to reach some "magical" spot might mean the opponent will grab your arm and apply an armbar. Which ends the fight. It's better to keep your hands out of opponent's reach (i.e. hold his back) while working on either standing up or reversing positions.

Today I tried wrestling! Which wasn't any interesting, I think. Too much ground-play and stuff. Makes you tough for sure, but for one I started too late and it also ain't my style of fighting. Had it been tap-out or something, then sure.

Went to help with a Judo competition for kids today.

Main mission was to keep the kids around the mat from not making too much noise.

Soon my mission developed into giving a 6 year old girl enough attention so she didn't throw her toy-cat all over the place. Her toy-cat was apparently the most awesome thing in the world, and she spent at least 60 minutes explaining to me just why it was so completely awesome.

Hey not all martial arts updates must be bloody

Just returned from practice, was fricking awesome.

Just three guys training, went as hard as we could. Didn't think I'd actually be able to stand up once we started Randori.

Then the Eye Of The Tiger soundtrack starts and it's fricking ON!

Threw a friend of mine three times with the same throw in a row haha, my own little Harai-Goshi variant... **** was so cash.

Then the other dude studied the move and completely removed that move from my system once I fought him in the next match. **** was not so cash... but we were pretty equal anyway.

Man we were all in pieces...

Typing hurts.

So last week I passed the 5th kyu exams. I have been practicing aikido for a year now and I'm steadily improving. Aside from the noticeable physical benefits they have helped with my reflexes, performance under pressure, environment awareness and less hesitation in quick decisions.

My techniques are more effective now but flaws always sneak in - everytime you correct one, someone spots another One could write a small book on how to perform a single move, there is a large amount of details that can vastly affect the outcome no matter how small. And of course things outside the form such as which muscles you manipulate on an opponent, how to avoid tensing them, how to effortlessly redirect direct force, how to avoid exertion and so on. They are not easy to absorb but our sensei always incorporates new elements in the training, to feel and understand them. The last few of seminars he attended had a noticeable effect in him, one of which held by his master.

You should have checked him out Joonas, he came all the way to Finland

Fun fact. First exam I was stressed and made mistakes, I even thought I failed. Second I was slightly stressed but prepared, few mistakes. This time I went through the motions like in regular training and it was over before I realized. Three down, four kyu to go Don't plan to aim for black belt though, at least not anytime soon. I'd love to but 250 euros just seem a waste..

It's a shame to be forced to pay for belts or degrees I mean, it takes all the fun. In early BJJ the higher "tier" belt could actually promote a lower one when fighting against him if he considered his skills high enough. I really like that system.

We don't pay for our degrees either, Dojo considers high-leveled Judoka an investment.

We do pay for the belt itself though.

Well, you had to pay a small fee for the belt exam, and the money went to the Romanian Federation of Martial Arts (or something like that) but it was like I said a small fee - around 10 US dollars.

That sucks really. Kendo which is less practiced in comparison requires about 50 euro fee or less for black belt examination, you can see where this is going.

Meanwhile I'm back in that transition period where I'm learning better control over what I recently learnt, feels like I'm back at square one It's always that way after exams. Also started jo vs jo practice at a faster pace, it is a lot of fun.

Well, I was training with a martial arts teacher tonight under the stars for about 3 or so hours. First time doing it and had a great time. It was just basic training and all. Had to get my punches changed and all because I have more of a boxer stance and all which isn't what I want to do. Just thought I'd share as I'll most likely be doing this a lot now.
