I guess people just lie out of their arses then? So all those people saying they saw him fight were just talking ****?

Okay Doomforge.

People love to exaggerate. Ask your friends, most of them will describe some sort of "friend" or "uncle" or whatever that had a fight with 4-5 guys and won.

Which is bull ****, obviously... Unless they were anemic or too drunk to stand still...

We can only judge - by MMA standards - by documented fights. Otherwise, we would go back to believing in Shaolin monks and Son Goku. Which is sort of pointless.

Bruce Lee COULD be a great fighter if he was a) young b) alive today. With the attitude, flexibility and open mind (he was trying grappling back then). In his weight class, of course. But making him some sort of God that goes around kicking 6 people at once or winning fights with people 70kg heavier is... well, optimistic.

Quick read and whatever lol. If that's what you want to believe then that's fine. Each to their own.

Exactly. People shouldn't act horrified when they suddenly get owned by three skinny drunks after 10 years of studying MAs, though. Their kamehameha can fail too.

So I've become obsessed with MMA/UFC ... took awhile. Though there are a few rules I think they could have managed without (I understand why they are there, due to MMA/UFC now being mainstream), I think those fighters seem to be among the toughest ones I have ever seen.

Still working on my martial arts. Changed focus to strikes, joint manipulation and grappling. Also spent some time to set up a 17 pages (on Word, front size 10) training schedule for myself based on different things therein UFC workout routines and different strikes, kicks and body locks. Working out is fun when you see/notice results! Within this years end I'll probably be ripped too, if I manage to stick to my shedule ^^

How's the rest of you people doing on your training?

So what did you have focus on before then?

Me, Myself and I hasn't been training since I was 16.
Well some occasional workout here and there out of impulse but not otherwise. It shows too. I can't roundhouse from left to right anymore. Only right to left. And my balance is off. And exploding strenght is low.

So how's your training? Technique based? Physique? Endurance? Overall mix&smash?

Mine proceeds nicely, this July I'll probably give exams for the next kyu. My techniques are not an empty imitation of form anymore, I can feel them flow and I can mostly read my partner's flow as well - I just need some more practice to be effective. My physical condition has also improved which is a good sign. What I had not considered is that summer training can be hell, you bathe in your sweat everyday Or I would if not for exams, I'm sitting for one tomorrow.

Anyway what I enjoy about aikido is that it is a learning as much as unlearning experience. There is a constant modification of techniques so you can't just settle down and say I know how to use x, y and z so let's move on to the rest. I've also started doing some preparation at home, doing the occasional exercise or seeing and comparing different variations of techniques. I won't be going to the army just yet so I should have some extra months to improve - better yet the rumour that army service will increase from 9 to 14 months was denied You won't miss me just yet.

Doomforge, have you started anything new or is your girl taking too much of your time?

Oh, I have time for everything But the long time knee-problems forced me to stop pretty much all activity. Now I gotta work on stamina before I start again and probably will have to stick to boxing, as it is pretty much the only MA that doesn't put that much stress on legs & appeases me

The rehabilitation went well enough for me not to limp anymore. Now I'm trying light jogging, and still biking as usual. Life ain't fair sometimes

Nothing really, I took a break during winter-time before that I focused on shoot fighting, kick boxing and krav maga... now I'm only practising very well working strikes and the like, nothing flashy at all.

A good training schedule should include everything. Muscle endurance, explosive strength, aerobics, fighting technique, etc...

Too intense, afraid I'll burn myself out. But yeah, train hard or it ain't worth it!

Any suggestion for new martial art to test?

Sumo Dunno have you tried any weapon training or do you prefer hand to hand? Kendo could be a weapon option but somehow its style does not appeal much to me. As a bonus it has competitions but I think you have to buy a sword for official matches. Maybe judo?

Edit: In case you care about the concept of chi through martial arts you may like this.

Yeahh .. me, a 73kg guy with no fat whatsoever, is going to take on one of those trolls? Would be fun to watch, but not so fun to experience
And yeah, I've practised some with swords and are kind of a natural with both that and knives/daggers ... but the places you can train the like where I live are usually closed. I would have to go to the capital, which is one hour away and cost 20$ with bus to get there.
I've never been a chi-person. I believe more in strength, speed, reflexes and muscle memory.

Been thinking about judo, but in the only club I found nearby only 10 year old kids playing so that was kind of a bummer. Maybe I'll check again after summer, but I really don't wanna throw 10-years around. That wouldn't be much training could be fun though! ((mad laugh))

Come now, I bet you'd love to train with those sumo wrestlers I also like the concept of kung fu, pretty stylish.

..... they didn't wanna train with me

Anyways, that monk ain't too impressive. Would be better if he actually showed what he did against someone who knew what they were doing. Then you could see if he could fight or not. That boy was simply lame...

Kickboxing gives pretty much every strike you need.
Krav maga is open for discussions.
How much locks and ground did you have in Shootfighting?

If not much then something like brasilian jiu-jitsu and lock wrestling might interest you.

PS. UFC forbids 12-6 elbows? Boooring...

Yeahh, I think kung fu is kinda showy. Not really 'me'.

We did quite a bit locks and ground in shootfighting, but even then I managed to get out of most of it or find counters. The reason I quit. Better trainer needed

Yeahh, I've looked into brazilian jiu-jitsu. It looks immensely effective! But it's probably ALOT of training to master. Though, every martial art is. Just have to find a place to learn it, not so easy learning heaps of different types of martial arts here in Norway.

Judo kinda cuts short as DF mentioned in this thread earlier with it's two minute rule. It also forbids techniques that inflict staying injuries. Uses Gi a lot.

Brasilian Jiujitsu is pretty good but takes serious physique after a while and can take a toll on your body. It also uses the Gi a lot.

Lock wrestling is just what it sounds to to be. There's no Gi.

I think DF knows more about these than I do though so you might want to catch him.
