well banshee is kind of demon:
The banshees, whare should i start?
They were beatifull race that control magical power, but they were evil, they destroy the land and kill all four races: dwarves, orcs, elves and humans.
There evil killed tham from inside, so slowly slowly they become ugly creatures.
Whan that happend they scream and untill today they scream on this lost beauty.
The god of darkness, masiria give thare scream a magical effects so today when you hear the scream you turned into stone.
you can kill banshee only if you take pure silver and dragon blood and put tham on his heart.
again, not have enothe time to effort on the story side.
but, thats what i have.

I think they are. At least in every game I played, banshees were undead 
ban·shee also ban·shie (băn'shē) pronunciation
