And I agree with you. That's why I've not made a move and why I'm not expecting one from her either. But I'm not entirely disclosing the possibility either, but untill either one of us gets another job we'll remain what we are. Somewhat flirtatious friends.

but I guess you mean when you feel love for someone, and that other person is indifferent to you.
depends a lot on how you define love too. most people seem to think it can only apply to one person at a time. I personnaly use the buddhist definition of love which is very different from the occidental one.
I remember an extract from one of the mind and life books (meetings between buddhist monks and occidental scientists)
a scientist says he performed brain scanners on subjects who were in love. Someone asks if they were really in love. The scientist replies that yes, of course, they were, they had been in couple for more than a year. Hearing that, one of the Lamas starts laughing 
obviously for him, it wasn't a proof a love.

Perhaps it is something we, the humans species, made up to justify our mating habits and make them less animalistic than they actually are.
Maybe it is a justification for our irrational behaviour when making and maintaining contact to the sex you're atracted to.
But maybe it is all ov everything people say about it and just a bit more. Maybe it is all we need and crave in life.
Maybe I have no idea what love actually is.

do you know that people who have a near death experience have the most intense feeling of love in their own life?
maybe it's just like the essence of our conscience, but the way we are taught to be draws us far away from it?
and why do you talk about sex like it's due to a mental illness?
actually, there have been inquisitions in the past. true love was considered a mental illness by the church, because only the church was supposed to bring love. so people who said it was possible to experience love without the church were a big threat to it.
Also, sex outside the mariage, or not in an attempt to conceive a child was prohibited.

The sex drive temporarily decreases whenever a person falls in love, and the person is also prone to fast. It's almost like suffering a physical injury and the body takes time to recover. I think it's pretty obvious that it's related to, but still apart, from mating. A product of the higher order of human intellect compared to other life.

It's not either, or here. I'm talking about the kind where both are present. But I know there is love without lust and lust without love and maybe there is a bit of both in my sentence as well.

That is a rather inaccurate paraphrasing of what I've said, but there are times perfectly normal people behave like they're mentally ill. Most of the times when this occurs, there is some form of lust or love involved.
Also, Fauch have you ever been in a bar? Observe bar-dating/flirting, perhaps you'll understand why I can be cynical at times. Many times.
