Still why would you do that? Seeing such a long post is intimidating to even start reading, better to have it divided in parts. I for one would never read such a humongous post.

@Elvin,

I understand your point, but I just feel that everything in one post would be more "complete", anyway you knew that this post would be very lengthy, don't you?  What I (and maybe Alc also) did not expect is that there is a maximum post length limit, that was never stated in any HC FAQ or rules or guides.

Turned out that I took too long to finish even part 2 of my analysis and got "hijacked" by carcity...

I will take note from now on and post such lengthy posts by parts, anyway I guess my future posts would not go THAT long, unless I go for another detailed analysis of something else in the game.

OK me and broadstrong has decided to work togetter on this one instead so mods can lock mine if you want. And then we made something out of a brilliant idea we got. so I am introducing to you the...



ARTIFACT SETS DESIGNED FOR EACH HERO.

the sets are designed for the heroes speciality.
And we agreed aout the first hero being my first hero ever played as on HoMMV Sinitar. So here it is:

Sinitar artifact set:

Helm-crown of Sar-issus.

Cuirass-Robe of Sar-Issus.

Weapon-Staff of Sar-issus.

Ring 1-Ring of Sar-issus. (with the whole Sar-issus set also gives the bonus for the set)

Boots-Emerald slippers OR Dragon bone greaves. (Emerald slippers to improve earth spells like Implosion and meteorshower and Dragon bone greaves for extra spellpower)

Necklace-Evercold icicle OR dragon teeth necklace.(Evercold Icicle for Ice spells like deep freeze or circle of winter and dragon teeth necklace for extra spellpower and initiative to casters in army)

Cloak-Phoenix Feather Cape OR dragon wing mantle.(Phoenix feather cape to improve fire-based spells like armageddon or fireball and Dragon wing mantle for knowledge points)

Pocket-Skull of Markal OR golden horseshoe.(The skull of markal for Lot of extra spellpower and Knowledge BUt it reduces the morale or the Golden horseshoe for luck to improve the warlocks luck skill)

Shield-Book of power OR tome of magic.(If you have enligthenment skill the book of power is good but if you do't it doesn't give very much bonus or a tome of magic most preferred dark magic because destructive and summoning is in the mage guild by default)

Ring 2-Dragon Eye Ring. (For more spellpower and knowledge if using all dragon artifacts advised it also gives the set bonus)

Now I see why Sinitar is the number 1 most preferred warlock , even more so than Lethos (with the insane decay ability) or Kythra (increase growth rate + provide money which is needed for a faction with outrageously expensive troops).

Just wonder is Sinitar banned in multi-player?

@Nebdar,

But why?
I understand your viewpoint, but having two different threads about analysis of artifacts is very confusing to newcomers.  A "one-stop" location seems better for all players to check out on the artifacts.

One thread for talking about single artifacts or maybe sets of two or three, the discusions, opinions and another talking about Artifacts Set, so the two topics wouldn't colide to much to eachother. Just like here. But it's just my opinion

I will use the post with Sinitars set the main post for the unique hero sets. Me and broadstrong is working on the second one right now. stay tuned for more. And BTW when we have finished the second one we will start taking suggetions for wich heroes to do next. So you can suggest us to make your favorite hero a uique hero set. But please send the hero of choice to me or Broadstrong by HCM so we don't spam this thread up  with small post like:


I suggest ***** OR Can you do ******.

For any artifact set analysis, I would like to mention something I came across, if you didn't know about it yet.
If you use the Ogre Club & Shield combo on Kragh you get Swift Mind v1.1 included, since he gets a boost of 30% (only 25% with SM) because of his pre-fight hit special(tested).

Combine that with the Lion set, a horseshoe, the 2 +init rings and the Cuirass and Greaves of the recenty pounded Dwarven King (for some magic proof and anti-slow) and you have some mean and fast things coming your way!

Changelog for part 1 and part 2

With effect from today, I will type in all my changes to part 1 and part 2 in this specific post, which will act as a changelog so that readers will know what I have changed.  The start date will be the date I completed and posted part 2 on this thread.  
Note that the stated dates are according to my time zone, which is about 5 to 6 hours ahead of most of your time zones.

29 Sep 08 night: Finally part 2 is complete (in 2 portions) and amended part 1 about change in artifact merchants
30 Sep 08: amended part 2.1 on ring of Sar-Issus
2 Oct 08: amended part 1 for updated merchant discovery, part 2.1 for ring of Sar-Issus' effect applying before arcane training, and notes and minor changes for other artifacts, part 2.2 for a few changes as well (some of these changes are based on Carcity's review which is now locked).
5 Oct 08: amended in 2.1 for edge of balance, previously having incorrect analyses (thanks, Zenithale)
24 Oct 08: amended in 2.1 for ring of shadowbrand (thanks Nebdar for pointing out no init-increase), 2.2 for amulet of necromancy (by the way, should be raising cost, not rising cost), and a few minor changes
29 Oct 08: in 2.1, made some minor changes, removed some extraneous wording, and also added a part for mask of equity (as if 2. isn't already long enough...)

AFAIK, no, there is an empty slot where the supposed relic should be at, but somewhow the mask of equity (and only this item) is available in the merchants (the mask is bugged...).

Is there anyone who is familiar with the map editor codes?  I have a feeling something is amiss there...

Or maybe someone at Nival likes the mask so much that it retains its "availability" in the merchants' stores while other relics "vanish"

Edit: I don't really like to combine the following in this post, but I also don't want my post count to not increase, so here goes for the artifact set for Vinrael (ranger + enlightenment + intelligence + special ability to increase experience gained after battles)

Helm: Turban of Enlightenment (quite obvious) or Crown of Sar-Issus
Cuirass: Scale mail of enlightenent (obvious) or armor of the forgotten hero (if magic resistance is more important)
Pocket: Golden Horseshoe or tarot deck (if more knowledge matters)
Necklace: Necklace of the Bloody Claw (since Vinrael should ideally  go to fight battles, big or small, very often, and luck + avenger is even better if the base damage of creatures are higher)
Ring: Can have 2 dragon eye rings (better MH, AA and druids), or replace one of them with ring of vitality (to improve durability)
Cloak: Dragon Wing mantle (more knowledge, faster-to-act dragons) or treeborn quiver
Shield: Book of Power (very good with enlightenment skill)
Weapon: Edge of Balance (better attack for more lucky damage) or unicorn of the horn bow (to make large army of druids very scary)
Boots: Boots of magical resistance (magic resistance cumulates with silver unicorn's ability) or sandals of the blessed (if knowledge is more important)

It would looked even better if there was an picture of fully equiped hero.
As for boots slor: Boots of Swift Journey because he is eager to fight in another battle and get more expierience

yes crag is a killer isn't he?

for vinrael i would rather have the archer's dream set b/c of expert sorcery-like effect on rain of arrows. knowledge really shouldn't be a problem for rangers, especially this one, but the higher the knowledge, the higher the SP bonus from druids! although the book of power is good, i would rather take one of the spell school books instead b/c of rain of arrows w/ frenzy, DV, wasp swarm, or any powerful destructive spell i am missing.

oh and for necklace, it would be amulet of nebdar! sorry couldn't resist

A double-edged sword that affects attack and defence in opposite directions.  Good or not as starting bonus or in-game?  Depend on hero type!

Knight: even better in defence
Ranger: increases defence, but attack gets even lower

...


For a Knight or a Ranger this sword increases the Attack, not the Defense. IMO this artifact is really good, except with a Wizard.

Naah it stats dosent fit there it is an different type of game(Wizardry8) and even in the game it wasn't so powerfull.

yes i was a fan of computer rpg's from early on. i followed wizardry, ultima, bard's tale, might and magic, then heroes 2, 3, and have now come to heroes 5.

wizardry8 was a great great game, although a bit slow.

i still miss being an faerie ninja with the cane of corpus on ironman mode even though it was so long ago

a shame that sir-tech went under b/c of financial difficulties; i was really looking forward to being able to play wizardry9

 Sorry for the long wait...Kaspar is one tough customer and even two minds had to take time to think of something fitting for him.

So, artifact set for Kaspar (undead hero with first-aid tent speciality, seems like good defence is more helpful tactic):-

Weapon - Dragon flame tongue (defence + counter master-of-ice warlocks)
Shield - Ogre shield (defence more important than initiative) or shield of crystal ice (protects from fire spells)
Cuirass - Cuirass of the Dwarven Kings
Helm - Dragon talon crown (war machines!) or Crown of Sar-Issus (more mana to raise dead)
Boots - Dragon Bone Greaves (add spellpower to raise MORE undead) or boots of magic resistance (make destructive spells fizzle)
Cloak - Cloak of Death's Shadow or bearhide wraps (added counter against cold spells) or cloak of sylanna (protects from meteor shower / stone spikes)
Rings - ring of machine affinity (200 HP for healing or plague tent attack) and ring of caution (good defence) (ring of lightning protection may also be good, see note below)
Necklace - amulet of necromancy (raise EVEN MORE undead)
Pocket - Skull of Markal (more spellpower and knowledge to raise undead)

Note: Basically I am trying to cover both physical defence and magical defence.  For magical defence it may be useful against warlocks and so artifacts protecting from magic helps in this.

Feel free to comment on this set-up.

Nice setup -> more defense means better resurrections/raises

But I have a question: Does the Ring of Machine Affinity give the Tent +100 Healing points or doubles the effect, meaning that Kaspar's specialty is also taken into account
