Castlevania -series

I used the Heroes Community search and I very stangely found no threads about Castlevania and decided to fix the problem!

Those of you who might say: "What is Castlevania?" I'll say that it's a rather long videogame -series by Konami with the first Castlevania -games being on the Nintendo Entertainment System.

The story of castlevania mainly revolves around the Belmont clan/family of vampire slayers who every once in a while (once every generation?) fight and slay Count Dracula who keeps being resurrected along with his castle wich is named Castlevania.

The gameplay has always been the following: You play as a vampireslayer (usually a Belmont) and explore Dracula's castle destroying creatures from beyond the grave with a multitude of weapons (usualy a whip) and secondary weapons (from trhowing knives and axes to time stopping pocket watches) and every once in a while encounter a boss and finally in the end you encounter Dracula.

Thats the basic concept of Castlevania.

My personal favorites of the series are: Symphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow and Super Castlevania IV.

Been thinking of getting a DS (Nintendo's relatively new portable gaming plantform with the full name being Nintendo Dual Screen) just for some MORE CASTLEVANIA!

I've played no other Castlevania than Lament of Innocence for PS2, thus I find it the best.

I like the graphics, I like the soundtrack, I like the atmosphere of it. The gameplay is also very enjoyable. You get a nice number of combos to learn, plenty of sidequests to complete, items to gather and monsters to slay.

Although it can be little bit too easy, after you've completed the game you'll unlock some modes like crazy-mode which makes the game 10x harder. Very challenging, but not way too hard. Perfect for me. It really tests your reflexes and tactical skills. You'll die faster than you notice if you don't focus on it all the time. You've got to keep an eye on every enemy, jumping, running, spinning, crawling and flying around you, all the time.

About the story, it's short but attractive. This is the one that kind of starts the whole Castlevania-series although this is one of the latest created.
It explains where it all began, why the Belmonts so desperately want to kill vampires.

One of my favourite series, I have played all except the 3d releases, the ds games and the one released in that Japanese console - I forget specifics, the one with Richter. I suppose I liked both the slow game play of the original just as the swifter controls of Aria of sorrow, each has its appeal. It goes without saying that symphony of the knight was the best

Btw since you mentioned super castlevania 4 I loved the outdoor settings and final boss. Slow paced battle that requires both reflexes and calm thinking. Hehe I had lost a few lives till I managed the last form

One of my favourite bosses was death in the original, that bugger was hell to defeat with just a boomerang and death at 3 hits - I used to get hit once before getting there Too many scythes flying around.

Recently played dawn of sorrow, very enjoyable. Gameplay is more or less like aria of sorrow being its sequel, good musical tracks, characters are given more attention this time, graphics and animations look stunning. Julius mode is back that allows you to play as Julius, Yoko or Alucard as he was in symphony of the night As usual you have to navigate around the castle to find your way, a variety of weapons to use, different endings, lots of souls to equip and now Yoko allows you to fuse extra souls to a weapon forging a stronger version.

Seems that the whole series is going for a reboot though, can't say if that is a good or bad thing. Perhaps the Soma storyline wasn't getting them where they wanted, as for the new one we only know bits and pieces.

I'd say that it'll be worth a gander, even if just for the Patrick Stewart and to see if there is life after Metal Gear for Kojima.
