Poll Question:
Landmine vs. quicksand

Hi all.

I'm intrested in the following question.

What do you prefer? Landmine or quicksand spell? Both have positive and negative sides. But which would you like to use rather and why?

OK, I know that it depends on the current situation, but don't restict your imagination to only one battle. Let's say that you can choose one of the spells in the beginning of the game, and the other will never be available for you. Thus you will use it many times. Which one would you choose?

For some reason I like the stopping power of Quicksand over the damaging blows of Landmines. It's probably got something to do with my preference of Earth Magic over Fire Magic, and my overall defensive attitude in the games. I dislike being offensive in any way in battle, even though I will take risks on the adventure map, and I find Landmine is a defensive spell for offensive armies, while Quicksand is a suplement to defensive attitudes.

So, as I said, I sooner get an Expert level in Earth Magic than Fire Magic, which creates more Quicksand fluxes, and hopefully get the units stuck in range of my ranged units, as opposed to Landmine blowing them up, but allowing them to move on to attack my front guard.

Well, if you are defending a Tower town, Landmine is almost useless.

Both spells are useless against Humans.

You can detect them with Force Field, Fire Wall or Remove Obstacles, without even casting those spells.

I never used either of these spells but I would go for quicksand, because it allows my ranged units more time to fire before being attacked in melee.

Of course, slow does a much better job than quicksand so it hardly matters.

i'll go for quicksand! slowing the enemy down is more usefull than give them a small damage from the stupid mines

Landmines are fun.
Quicksand is fun also but it's useless.
Unless you can attack without the enemy having a counter attack.
Now Land Minds is alot of fun.
Nothing like watching some Behemoths walk around & get blown up lol.

Found this ancient thread and since I found it very interesting, I decided to revive it.
What do you think of Quicksand and Land Mine?
I often use Quicksand vs AI, especially if I don't have Mass Slow. Land Mine on the other hand I never found any use for. Quicksand at least stops the enemy, Land Mine does some damage, but Lightning Bolt, Ice Bolt, Meteor Shower, Chain Lightning or Implosion does this a lot better.
Land Mine is also way too expensive, for the little chance that it is actually gonna affect anybody.
One thing I find weird with Quicksand is that the pits are supposed to be revealed when the enemy steps in it, yet you can make the AI walk in the same two pits going forward and back forever. Another example of a not too clever AI.
Good thing about both spells are the unlimited duration.
