This is going to be hard because I agree with this.
I didn't bother reading through all those pages full of one liners and quote wars. They really don't belong in this thread.

First I have to address this negative sound of this claim. Arguing is in no ways bad. It is actually an activity that trains one's wit and brain when executed in the right fashion. It also let's one to compare his opinions to those of others. Imagine how would this world would look like if this chance didn't exist and everyone just agreed with anything. Racism would flourish and injustice would rule! Creates quite an ugly picture doesn't it? Now that we've assessed that issue we can really begin the analysis of this subject.
Fighting with each other? Surely you aren't suggesting that we aggravate people in OSM? Do you don't think that the "bashing" as some choose to call it is at it's worst or only exists in OSM? You don't spend much time in Library, do you? I could point several examples of this subject from library but I'm just going to go with a name, Xarfax. I know pointing people out is rude but in this case it is a very good example. There are others even to as high as going to the Library mod himself and me, myself. Shame on me. But this also shows that it isn't the forum's fault if the people are intolerant. There are always problematic people no matter what the subject is.
The fora would be more calm? I don't think so. Those people who wanna flame would just go troll somnewhere else. Usually we all argue in the boundaries of friendly conversation. Sure, maybe we sometimes do overstep the boundaries of calm arguing a little but only a little. Too much would lead into penalties by our dear mods. They make sure that the discussions don't heat up too much. (And for that we thank you!) But what is arguing without some differencing opinions? There has to be disagreement in the first place to cause good argument.
In conclusion:
It is good that there is the OSM where people can have their battle of wits and they can argue over matters that they maybe can't argue with people IRL. Also, who wouldn't want to have arguments over something else than how OP AAs are or why capitol first sucks in a while?
It might also be a place for some people to went off some steam but they should learn that's not why the OSM is there. For that they have the VW.
