You can make the usermods folder yourself if it
doesn't exist. If you have the old collectors edition
that only includes the original game without ToE you
can't use the mod.

Hello, I have recently been playing H5 again and I decided to download this mod. I had been careless and thought both the New Modes and the classic AI were to be put in the same folder, which I did and when I realized the mistake, I went to the folder to remove the uneeded one. Strangely, I found that the UserMODs folder in my TotE folder was empty, but the modes in game have already changed to Deathmatch and Bankrupt modes. I didn't pay much attention to it, so I copied just the Classic AI mod into the folder, and strangely again, although it shows an empty folder, a pop up appears and asks if I wanted to replace the similar file already in it. So I clicked yes, and it still shows an empty folder. I tried to run to game again, but it didn't seem to work. It still shows the New Modes instead of Classic AI. I even tried removing the folder and making a new one, but it didn't work. Re-installed the whole game and it didn't work either. The New Modes seem stuck in the UserMODs folder although it shows up as empty, like a ghost.

Does anyone know what's going on... and how I can rectify this?

@jac:

This problem is not related to homm5 or this mod. You could try scanning your disk for file system errors. If files keep disappearing on your pc, you may need to search for help on a windows tech forum.

Thanks for the reply, but I am asking here because it only happens in my Heroes V UserMODs folder. I thought something as specific as this should be asked around here since I don't have any other files disappearing.

Hi

I was wondering whether this mod works in the campaigns?  I always found the AI to be a bit poor in H5 and hopefully this will make it more enjoyable!

Thanks

The mod has almost no effect on the difficulty in campaigns, because all campaign maps are heavily scripted.

A.I.

Hey guys, big HoMM fan, and it's my first post on these forums so please go easy.

I found this thread today and the prelude to it yesterday. It seems the timing was serendipitous because apparently Heroes 6 is set to come out tomorrow?

I had been debating whether or not to get H5 because I'd been playing IV over the weekend and though I enjoyed it (siren's song map, hardest difficulty. Rank-Megadragon. No cheats), I found that the A.I. was extremely..well..dumb.

They mixed numerous creature types together, destroying the army's morale, and they left their dead high level heroes on the ground instead of retrieving them, so the armies I fought that were not neutral were pretty weak...but apparently H5 A.I. is 10 times more stupid, even than that. So when I saw Magnomagus' MODs, a glint of hope began to return to me.

I'm not a huge gamer anymore. Heroes is pretty much the only game I still play, and to keep myself from getting out of control I make promises to myself not to play for set periods of time and then keep them.

So I'm writing this asking for some good suggestions as to where I should go from here in the HoMM world. I've no interest in going backwards, even though I had lots of fun with H3.

What I'm really looking for is a Heroes game that has really good AI. Graphics and all the other stuff is just a perk at this point. But I'm not sure it's worth getting H5 or H6 if the A.I. isn't all it could be.

So what should I do? I was thinking of waiting for reviews on H6 to find out if it's worth it and if the A.I. is any good (again, my #1 concern) then to buy it. But where can I go to get honest, intelligent perspectives regarding it and the AI for it? What do you guys think I should do?

Thanks

HoMM is it for me too. Why not do both? HoMM5.5 Eternal Essence (the A.I.Mod) for ToE 3.1 and H6? They are going to be sisters but not identical twins.

This mod is outdated. If you haven't played H5 it is hard to say which of the AI projects will suit you fine, since it depends on your playing ability and style. For me this Ai is still most challenging because of the cheating, even though Quantomas Ai is more intelligent. I hope in the future Quantomas AI will be both fast and challenging.

It's possible...I think I'll wait a bit though before either.

Magno, I'm perusing the link you shared--Wow! A lot of work must have gone into that! Do you know if the developers for H6 consider MODs for previous versions while developing the new game...or maybe a better way to put it is, do MODs for H5 influence the development of H6 that you know of? I'm hoping that if H6 A.I. is smart then I can just get that game and have a type of "best of both worlds" type experience.

Also, I promised not to play any Heroes games solo for one year beginning this past Sunday, so I'd need an optimal 2 player version for the game.

[Mega-Project] The HOMM5 Role Playing Edition

Well I'm on page five now of link you shared whose post name is in the subject title of this reply. Seems there's lots of things besides just the A.I. that could use correcting. I'll keep reading/observing.

Thanks again

Not directly, developers are known to read the forums, but there is so much input (see altar of wishes) that it is hard to tell where they get their info. In any case H6 has might and magic classes.

H6 will be an entirely different experience and won't replace H5 or any other heroes game.

Hi, first I know that this mod is obsolete, but I don't need all the features of RPE, just fighting alternatives in treasure buildings. So is this mod compatible with Quantomas's AI mod? And if it isn't, is there some way (by editing or extracting something) that I can make it so?

I started few maps with them together, and it loads fine, but I haven't got time to playtest them to the end of any. And I like playing big maps with few fiends (best variant is 2 or 3 of us and several AI's and than FFA) and we really wouldn't like for game to crash somewhere in the middle of the map irreparably. So it would be nice if somebody has already tried it to the end. My fear exists mainly because they both affect AI, so I don't know how exactly they affect each other. Will  AI players maybe get confused by some conflicting instructions , or something like that...?

If it works shortly it also works longer, there cannot be conflicting instructions because this mod only changes parameters and most are no longer used by Quantomas AI. I'm only not sure about the amount of heroes the AI uses, maybe less than with EE.

That's great! Even if there are less heroes controlled by AI, they should at lest be stronger... Thanks! We will try it next time... Only thing remaining is difficulty choice. What do you think, when I'm changing it from the map select screen, am I choosing your difficulty parameters or Quantomas (or maybe both )?
