Many thanks

Hello everyone.

I want to thank Zamfir and all the people that make easier the world of the new gamers. HOMM5 is my favourite game and I've played it with my friends in hot seat mode.

However, I don't know very much about on line gaming since I've never played any game on line. Like Zamfir said on his first post, there's nothing worse than a guide which explains things the hard way, as if you already know the answers.

I would like to play, at first, on LAN. I thought my friends and I could play on LAN just asking some friend who is a technician, to connect all the PC. In this case, it's not enough with that, so I need the HAMACHI after all?

Thanks in advance.

You don't need Hamachi to play in LAN If it works to access your friend's PC in Windows, it should work in H5 too.

Like Ash said, Hamachi is not needed (meaning that you can play without it, not that it's not useful). But I think it's the bst solution in your case, because it's much easier than to ask your friend connect the PCs.
I know people are somewhat reticent to download software, because they seem hard to use. But Hamachi is very easy to use and free. Besides, it has a major advantage over Pc connecting: at any time, any other Pc can join or leave your network with just two clicks (persuming that he knows the network's password, ofc).

A download mirror for Hamachi here.

Thanks for your postive reaction towards my work.

So...

Thanks Asheera and Zamfir for answering so quickly.

Let me get this right. If I want to play in LAN with my friends (everyone with his PC), I don't need hamachi and I just have to get every PC connected (with the help of a technician). In this case, do we need to have internet?

But, If I get hamachi, the machines don't have to be connected. I understand that hamachi works thanks to the internet connection, so the PC just have to be connected to the internet. Am I right?

Please, be free to correct me if I'm wrong.

With Hamachi you create a Virtual Network. That means that you will be able to play with the LAN options of the game with people from the internet (those that joined your Hamachi network)

So...

You have two options to play via LAN. You either ask your freind to connect the computers, either you use Hamachi (nothing else is needed except an Internet connection).

Let's look at the first option. It will take a lot longer than to ue Hamachi, and still it's possible that problems may occur. I speak from personal experience: I have two computers at home and I wanted to connect them. I relied on the services of a technician, and it took a few whole evenings for him to get done. We had to buy some cables and do some work, including perforating one wall. Despite that, I still can't play a multyiplayer game via LAN between the computers. Thirdly, the network created by connecting the computers is very rigid: your friends can't just leave it at will, and new buddies can't join (without further work from your technician friend, and even with his dedication he can't make buddies from, say, another town join you).

Hamachi, on the other side, requires only an Internt connection and, ocf, the Hamachi program. The program is free and very light, and it is used to create your own Network. You chose your network's name and password, and then anyone who knows the name and pass can join the network. I said anyone, even if he/she lives on the other side of the Globe.

That's why I recommend you Hamachi: it's quicker, easier, safer and much more flexible.

Hamachi is the way...

First of all, thank you, Asheera and Zamfir.

As a matter of fact, I was going to do the same business, Zamfir. I was going to ask for a two PC connection, but after your explanation I can see that HAMACHI is the way to have fun.

I have read in some threads that there are different versions of HAAMCHI. How can I know what's the best for my PC? Or the more reliable?

After this I'll try to follow all your indications, guys. I don't want to take to much time from you.

Thanks in advance.

Hamachi version 1.0.1.5 is the best (at least, for Heroes 5)

You can download it from here

Problem:

Failed to Configure Hamachi adapter.

Configuration problem is most likely caused by you firewalling software blocking DHCP traffic on Hamachi adapter. Please make sure that UDP traffic from local port 68 to port 67 at 5.0.0.1 is allowed. Alternatively you can try completely disabling the firewall on Hamachi adapter

I have only Windows XP Firewall

It seems your Firewall doesn't allow Hamachi. Just Disable it for a moment and run Hamachi and see if it works - this way you'll know that the Firewall is causing problems

I never used Windows Firewall, but it HAS to have an application list which allows to connect

Nono, just disable it for a sec and try Hamachi, and see if it works. Afterward enable it again

Well now you'll have to join someone's network, or create one yourself and let others join it. See that button at the bottom-left? That's the options one. Go to the button at the left of it and press it.

You should have two options: Create Network and Join Network.

To Join, you'll have to type the name of the network you want to join and its password (the creator of the network should give this to you, of course)

To Create one yourself, you'll have to type the name of the network you wish to create and enter a password for it. Then you'll have to give these two properties to other people who'll want to join your network.

Once you'll be in the same network with other people (either by joining one or creating one yourself and let others join it), you'll see the games created in the game through the LAN menus.

btw, there's also a Chat option in Hamachi. Simply Right-Click on someone's nick in the player list (in the network) and select Chat.

WHere is online code.???

Hi.
Can I ask a really noob question

I have 2x genuine copies of HOMM5 Gold Edition...
Where do I find the online code to play Ubi? Maybe could be added to the first page, where you mention the code...

Also:

Is there anywhere else like the old MSN Zone to meet up and play online HOMM3 or 5? I haven't played much of 5, but played 3 for years... never bothered with 4...

Thanks
VB.

It's in the ubi manual, first page. I doubt many play H3 but maybe you can find some players here. Apart from that there are two tournaments, toh and lrh.
