Dr. Crates watched the gun-toting Avatar go, considering following the creature in case one of its targets needed help. Voices echoed up at him before he could try to signal his Avatar to follow, however, and he watched the duo of travelers pass below him.

He considered making contact with them; he had his companion with him now, and was not in quite the helpless position he had been, now having some idea what this world was about thanks to Natsa. The silvery being winking up at him caused him no small amount of startlement but it also decided him; it was not in his experience for hostile forces to wink and walk on by.

Somehow sensing his intention, the beast of blades made its way carefully down the slope of the pipe wall, knocking bits of rust loose but otherwise as quiet as possible. It trotted out into the center of the pipe floor, out of concealment but in short range of an upturned piece of the floor if he needed cover.

Crates scrambled out of the empty ribcage and stood, brushing his hand through his hair and straitening his glasses in an attempt to look presentable. He then faced the retreating duo and cleared his throat to get their attention.

“Hail travelers! Who are you who comes through these halls so lately desecrated?”

Adrius - The battle is short, but you learn a bit during this.  They seem to pack a punch, but are very fragile.  Deffinately not something somebody who controlled the true Nexus could make.  As you sift through the wrecked remains you notice something.  It looks like a little patch with a winged creature on it..but if so it is twisted and warped beyond recognition.

KI (Hope you don't mind, your name is rather long) - The man swivels around.  "Who am I!  Who am I!" then he turns to the silver elf.  "Who am I?"

The Silver Elf answers.  "You are Don Vergard, a magician and bard.  And I am Stelis your faithful Battle Avatar.  Please forgive Mr. Vergard.  Some people get lost in here, and loose their devices to return home.  After years it affects their minds..they become..unstable."

"Unstable!  I am the greatest magician of all time!  The mightiest Bard!  The...hey look..one of those things is coming this way...shiny."

Sure enough it looks like you have been spotted by one of the machines.

Sagrath noticed that the legs of the golem seemed rather fragile, and that the cuts already have damaged them even more.
"You, thing! Aim for the legs!"
The Battle spirit seemed rather annoyed after been refferred to as 'thing' but did as sagrath told him. He easily evaded a few shots and with a powerfull blow crushed the metal legs. The golem fell over, unable to aim directly at neither of his targets.
"Might have some use of you after all, priest", the spirit said before he turned to his enemy. "You were worthless, I am dishonored of this battle."
He stabbed his sword in the golems head, and it instantly stopped moving.
  "Ehm, good job", Sagrath said.
"That was nothing", it replied with an evil smile. "Even you put up with a better fight"
Sagrath decided not to answer. His exploration of the Nexus was quite different than he thought it would be.

"Interesting." - Mordekai said, after examining the creature closely and seeing that it moves like it weights almost nothing, and steam coming around it for a millisecond as it turns - "It seems this creature has an element of Air. If I remember correctly from the book of elements, air is weak against earth and the powers of darkness. The latter you possess, Mephisto, but this creature looks powerful and we cannot take any risks attacking it directly only with dark. We must find a way to strike with some earth into it as well."

Mephisto replies: "Given we are in a room with a stone brick ceiling, I think we have a way to strike with earth at it and at the same time being able to use my dark powers as well."

"Interesting, Mephisto. So we have to wait first until it stops roaming around for a little, and you will use your Trident to attack the ceiling so that the bricks will fall on it... and when the bricks hit it you'll also be able to strike with your dark powers at the same. Brilliant! Let's hope it will work out."

But after waiting for some time, the creature turned around to them, and made some kind of strange metallic, yet more like a peaceful wind sound.

"This is clearly not good, I think it spotted us!" - said Mordekai.

The creature prepared to charge, and Mephisto started to attack it. Mordekai managed to avoid the charge and place himself in a safe position. The battle was tough, even though Mephisto had a great advantage over the creature of Air due to the elements involved, this guardian was still a very huge threat as it was stronger than Mephisto. Several hits were made from both sides, Mephisto using his Dark Claws to weaken the creature, while the guardian slammed Mephisto multiple times.

Both of them were weakened, but the creature still seemed to be advancing. Mordekai tried to divert its attention, and summoned a few small bricks which he threw at the enemy. The creature reacted, and turned around slowly. It was still examining the new enemy, remaining in its position for a short while. This provided the best opportunity for their initial plan to work. "Mephisto, NOW it's the time!"

Mephisto used his Trident and attacked the bricks on the ceiling that were above the metallic creature with his Dark Nova ability. That part of the ceiling was destroyed, and a multitude of bricks started to fall. At the same time when the bricks fell on the guardian, Mephisto turned around and used the same Dark Nova ability to strike at the creature as well. Although it proved to be a very strong creature, after it was considerably weakened by Mephisto in the previous fight, it couldn't resist these massive attacks which were also deadly for the creature's element of air. The "metallic" surface simply disappeared and a lot of smoke was released from it.

Mordekai said satisfied: "I think we managed to defeat it. Good job, but before we venture any further I suggest we rest a bit to recover our strengths. Especially after this tough combat you were considerably weakened."

"DAAAADY!!"

big steps was heard from afar. they where closing in fast. Sephiroth and Asteroth was looking around for it. Then suddenly a big giant came running towards them from the right. It stopped infront of the girl and took something from it's shoulder and placed it infront of the girl. It was a man, atleast 2 meters tall.

"what is it dear?"

"This scary old man and his friend came into our house and they wont leave."

the little girl saw very annoyed.

"It wasn't our fault, we was escaping into a portal from a giant stone golem, and we ended up here."

"That might be true but ou have angered my daughter. And for that you will pay."

He took his daughters hand and the giant took up them on it's shoulder. The giant was then tryingto step on sephiroth and Asteroth. Asteroth ran abit away and remained there while Sephiroth used his levitate ability to get to the giants head. He then remained floating in the air and choped with his sword on the giants head. The giant seemed annoyed of him and tried to catch him with it's hands. But sephiroth was fast and evaded the attacks. But the giant managed to hit him with one fist. Sephiroth's right lg made a strange sound. He screamed of pain. The giantshead was full of wounds, most of them bleeding heavily. He looked abit dissy. Sephiroth Managed to stand up using a combined power of his sword and the levitate ability. He then took his long katana and struck it in throu the ear into the giants head. The giants eyes rolled back and he fell to the ground. But asteroth told Sephiroth to use his levitate ability to save the man and the girl from falling to the ground. The man was very afraid of sephiroth and said that if they went north in about 10 miles they would reach a portal wich lead to somewhere near the middle of the nexus. But they where also warned of the dangers on the way...

((No, I don’t mind. ))

Dr. Crates looked up at the approaching mechanism with some alarm. No time or point in making for the ceiling to ambush it; they had already been seen.

“It might be shiny but I doubt it’s friendly,” he said heavily. Crates looked around for the broken head of Natsa’s spear; it was lying some yards away, half-buried in the floor from when the chamber had shifted. He dashed to retrieve it.

“Hey wait! Where are you—?”

The rest was lost to him as he began frantically digging at the rusted metal.

Meanwhile his companion stalked towards the approaching foe, head arrowing forward and neck coming into alignment for a charge. Metal limbs seemed to tense, then the whole beast bolted forward at once, racing over the uneven ground in a spray of flung rust.

The spear point came free at last; Crates lifted it with a victorious cry just in time to witness the first exchange of blows.

((Right now updating KI and Mam, if anybody else hasn't finished off their foes, let me know and will update them also)).

KI - As you pick up the spear, 3 more of the mechs come from various directions.  Things might be getting a bit dangerous.  The old man starts mumbling.  "What was that attack again..blight..no Fright..no.."

The silver man just shakes his head at his 'master'.  "Bright Blitz!" Dozens of him appear from all over, slashing past the creatures with amazing speed.  They are bouncing all over, but seem to not hit you, your battle avatar, or the old man.  All three of the others fall but the silver man eyes go dark and he slumps over.

The old man goes.  "Yes!  That's it..Bright Blitz!" as if not aware that his Battle Avatar has already done it.

Mamga - The water hits the machine, and sends it rocking back.  It is a bit off balance, but it is bringing its hand guns up.  It unleases several projectiles, which impacts your BA and does some damage.  However, the force of the blasts further topple it and it crashes onto it's back.  It will take a bit for it to be able to stand again.

Nevil looked at xaphan for a moment. Xaphan's jaws were wide open. They both agreed that this girl might be a little bit underestimated. Nevil weaved some cotton candy with his summoning magi, while saying: "Yes, yes, xaphan and I will be coming and why don't you take a little snack with you?"

Nevil quickly hurried to the dark portal and entered along with Xaphan. What was inside was pretty anti-climactic, Nevil thought, using hard words he earned through extensive study of the arcane.

Inside looked like a... Nevil had never encountered something like it, actually. It was dirty made of carved bricks... There were things inside that resembled parts of the machine that the furry rabbit just destroyed. A young, spirited girl ran up to them. She had raven locks and a wrench in her hand with a smile on her face. Nevil had never seen such clothing.

"Hey, there, strangers!" She said cheerfully, "Might I help y'all with sumthin'?" The little girl pointed to her rabbit: "Mistew wabbit got a piece of sharp stuffin his furry, little paw."

"Aaaaaaww, poor thing." The raven-haired girl said and led them through the building. "I'll take care of mister rabbit for you." she said. Xaphan was about to follow, before he was stopped by some greassy-looking bloke. "Ya ain't allowed ta walk in me shack, ya firebeast, ta oil canna take that lightly, a'ight?" he growled. Xaphan said carefully: "I see..." and walked back to evil. "I think we're supposed to wait here." Xaphan the fire daemon said.

Nevil nodded. "You do that!" he said, "while I examine the place. Don't touch anyof the black liquid, you hear?" Xaphan nodded. he was a bit grouchy, but he waited nevertheless.

The metal beast was slow, and Kenji's blade tore it wide open before it had a chance to strike.

"Powerful but fragile, a worthless existance, this Abrix doesn't seem to dangerous..." Kenji sheathed his blade and took a part of the creature in his hand, he noticed something small and ripped it from the part.

"Master, this looks important." Harus walked up to Kenji who handed him the small patch he had found. He examined it for a few seconds.

"A symbol, probably that Abrix guy's sigil or something. This might be useful later on, let's go." Harus continued to the exit portal at the other side of the room, Kenji followed.

"Your energy cells are still high, right?"

"Yes, I have enough, guess it's pointless to convince you to go back now?"

"Absolutely, this is too exiting. Let's find this Abrix guy and show him the edge of your blade." Harus smiled and leapt into the portal. Kenji sighed again and followed.

((So I’m allowed to finish the last one off then? Excellent. ))

The beast of blades slammed into the first mechanoid nose first, and quickly discovered what other combatants had learned; while powerful, the mechanical monstrosities were not very durable. The blades that made up its ‘snout’ ended half-buried in the brittle metal armor of its foe, and it became stuck.

A blast from the enemy arm cannons raked its sides. The beast of blades did not shriek, but it did thrash—clawing with razor-edges and lashing the enemy Avatar with its bladed tail. Eventually the mauling was enough to free it from its opponent’s shell, and it backed away with one last whip to the enemy’s ‘eye’, its head raining shreds of armor and bits of the now-ruined chest cannons.

The beast of blades’ form rippled with healing light as its foe took the chance to re-orient. The mech’s single eye was now shattered, sparking erratically; nevertheless it tried to turn on its attacker and fire, but too late: the beast of blades was already skittering around it, lashing it from behind.

A swipe of the long, bladed tail took out the primary supports in one leg. The enemy mechanoid largely ignored the blow and turned to attack anyway; a vicious claw slash wrecked one arm before it could get off a shot, but the other landed a blast square in the ribs of its opponent, the metal melting together from the attack’s intensity.

The beast of blades wanted none of this; it crouched and sprung awkwardly onto the enemy Avatar’s shoulders, clinging there until the light now rippling once again over its form healed its wound. Using its new vantage point, it attacked the neck and shoulders of its perch with horn and claw. Something vital must have torn then, because the mechanoid toppled over with a scattering of the explosive ‘pop’ sounds associated with electrical wiring giving out. The beast of blades continued tearing at its fallen foe while Stelis finished off the newcomers and subsequently collapsed, hacking and slashing until only twisted metal remained.

With the robotic foes dispatched, Crates bent to examine the old bard’s Avatar.

“Will he wake up on his own after using that, or does he need medical attention?” Crates directed the question at the old bard.

He checked the wrists and throat for a pulse; there was no heartbeat, but instead a rhythmic sound like a lift rising followed by a whirl like a fan or motor.

“I don’t know, after using what?” asked the cloaked man, scuffing at an interesting spot on the pipe floor.

Dr. Crates blinked. “Never mind. My friend can carry him for now, I think.” He stood. “We should find a place to hole up for a while and recuperate; preferably somewhere reasonably far from those things,” he tossed his head in the direction of one of the wrecks, “In case someone comes looking for them.”

The bard nodded distractedly, now picking up a bit of loose insulation to play with, not seeming to notice.

But before they moved on, there was something Crates needed to do.

There was, he reflected, no way to give Natsa’s corpse a proper disposal. The best he could do was drag her desiccated carcass off out of the way and cover it with a layer of insulation, knowing as he did so it would likely be uncovered the next time the Arena shifted.

Most of her equipment had also been destroyed by whatever force had killed her. Her pack was withered and tore like wet paper when handled too roughly, and there wasn’t much that he could recognize within—still less that still looked to be useable.

Nevertheless, he managed to salvage a bit of strap from Grissom’s harness with which to secure the broken spearhead to his person. The weapon was more for reassurance than anything as he possessed no skill whatsoever with any weapon lacking a targeting system and a trigger, but nevertheless there was enough of the haft left to make an improvised knife or cutting tool if he needed it. He also saved one of the bronze squares that hadn’t been too warped as a memento, that having no other use unless he somehow stumbled through a gate to Natsa’s homeworld.

Having thus done what he could for both the living and the dead, Crates motioned to his Avatar. He levered the prone Stelis into the skeletal creature’s hollow ribcage, then his guardian trotted off to go round up the absent-minded old man and they were off.

* * *

Some indeterminable amount of time later, the four travelers came upon a division in the pipes; in the center was a huge mirror like the one that had disgorged the gun-armed mechanoids (though free of the creatures for the moment), and three more pipes like the one they were in ran at right angles to each other. The one to the right went up, the one to the left went down, and the one directly across from them stayed level; all three were otherwise devoid of distinguishing marks.

Except…Crates bent down to examine the left-hand pipe. Strange marks, like tracks, though not from any creature he was familiar with (like that was unusual, he thought to himself wryly) traveled down the rusty passage. They were sharp and pointed, lash-like, and seemed to scratch the ground in a front-to-back manner, as though the thing had tried to swim down the pipe with flippers made of spines.

“What do you think?” he asked the bard. “Anything you’re familiar with?”

The bard just looked up at him blankly, his fingers tangled—he’d twisted the bit of insulation into twine and woven it into a cat’s-cradle, and the result paired with his expression made him look almost childlike.

“Very well,” Dr. Crates said, resisting the urge to sigh, “I guess this is my decision then.”

He eyed the three passages, then back the way they came.

“Let’s go this way,” he said at last, motioning to the pipe to the right. The old bard hummed something that could perhaps have been assent if one were to assume he was paying attention; Stelis and the beast of blades of course said nothing, being (respectively) unconscious, and largely mute. The four set off up the slope, the rusty floor scraping beneath their feet.

It took them about 2 seconds to enter and exit the portal, and a new arena unveiled itself to them.

"Well... this looks interesting." The room was completely empty except for a large metallic control panel in the center.

"We're being really unfortunate with all these mechanical things... I want to see something new!" Harus began walking towards it, Kenji followed silently. The panel had a blue display with thousands of strange signs, below it was a keyboard with even more signs.

"A code... wanna try it out Kenji?"

"I'll try." Kenji began studying the display while touching the keyboard slowly, as if trying to feel a pattern. He worked for about 40 minutes, Harus had already grown tired of watching him try thousands of combinations and had tried to get some sleep instead.

"I don't know if I'll be able to decipher this today, in fact, I think this could take weeks..."

"What?! No, I refuse to wait for that long!"

"Should we go home then?"

"No, you'll have to try something else." Kenji removed his hands from the panel and walked around it, trying to discover something else. There was a small hole in the back, surrounded by several wires and lights.

"I could try to hack it, but I doubt I'll be successful."

"Do it." Kenji ripped a small piece of metal from his arm, revealing a small piece of wire sticking out of his body. He grabbed it and pulled it until it was about 4 times its length, and then placed it in the small hole. He put his hands together in a strange pose and mumbled a low mantra.

"Is that irritating mantra really necessary? I can't remember programming you with it..."

"It's for concentration, and I would prefer silence Master."

Suddenly the display went black and the room's light started to flicker, soon the whole room started to shake.

"What the hell?! What's happening Kenji?!"

"Firewalls, the computer is in pain."

"Huh? It's that advanced? The room feels like it's gonna collapse!" Harus suddenly remembered to keep silent.

The room returned to normal again and Kenji stood silent. Small sparks were made around the panel before the signs reappeared.

"Did you make it?" Kenji didn't answer, his body didn't want to move, he collapsed. "Hey!" Harus ran up to him and catched him in mid air.

"V... virus... it tried to save itself." Kenji's eyes went black and his body numb. The room changed in colour again, the wall behind the panel opened and a loud scream could be heard from the darkness.

"Damnit, a guardian... this is bad. Kenji, wake up" No response, and sounds of footsteps could be heard, it was coming closer.

"Wake the **** up!!" Kenji's eyes became red again, Harus grinned and tried to help him up. Kenji put his hand on Harus shoulder and pushed, sending him flying across the room. He landed and rolled a few metres before hitting the wall, he screamed in anger and rose from the floor.

"Kenji, what the hell are you doing?!" Kenji quickly got back on his feet and took a deep breath before pulling the wire back from the panel. He looked around and faced the beast. Harus was confused, what was happening?

"I'll handle things from now on... starting with this guardian."

"What the...? You'll follow my orders Kenji!"

Kenji just laughed and unsheathed his blade, his style seemed different too. "Let's rock...!"

After resting and recovering from the last fight with that strange air-metallic creature, Mordekai and Mephisto went to explore the creepy place. There were a lot of dark corridors with many connections, much like a maze. They just went on randomly when they encountered a split of ways. After a while of going randomly they encountered yet another split in two: "Hmm, this is getting tiresome Mephisto. We're exploring this dungeon for a lot of time now, and there's absolutely nothing to be find here other than these bricks that form up the corridors."

Mephisto looked at his master but didn't say a word. Mordekai, who was somewhat bored sighed: "Well, I guess we should continue. Let's go to the west."

The west corridor was very long, and after some time of exploring it Mordekai heard some kind of bug sounds. He examined the area carefully and there could be seen a few bugs on the walls. "Well, at least there is something than the usual silence. Let's go further."

As they went deeper in the direction of the corridor, the sounds were getting louder and louder, and more and more insects could be spotted on the walls. Mordekai knew that it could be something wrong so he told Mephisto to be on his guard. After following the corridor some more they encountered a bigger room which apparently had no exits, but a lot of insects were swarming on the walls.

Mordekai said: "Great, a dead end. And what's with all these insects? I don't -" he didn't get to finish his phrase as there were some very strong insect sounds from the corridor from which they came, along with some strong footsteps. Those sounds were getting louder and louder, it was definitely some kind of creature that was coming this way.

After some time the creature came out of the fog, it was some kind of huge insect. It surely wasn't friendly with the two as it made a some kind of roar. Mephisto charged and attacked it, and managed to hit it hard and knockdown it. It didn't seem to be very powerful, and Mephisto was preparing for another attack, when the small insects that were swarming on the walls started to attack Mephisto. The Archdevil had no choice but to stop his attacks against the huge insect, and concentrate his strikes on the small insects.

Lots of insects were smashed and killed by Mephisto and his dark powers, but the huge insect managed to recover in this time. It was spitting some kind of strange web, and the web covered Mephisto completely rendering him unable to move. The insect turned to Mordekai who was desperate. It slammed Mordekai to the wall with one of its hits. The flute, that he had gotten from that strange man with goggles that he encountered as the second 'challenge' after entering the Nexus, was dropped to the ground because of this.

After seeing the flute, the insect stopped its attacking rage. Mordekai somehow had a feeling that the creature was surprised to see that flute, but he was also less desperate as the creature didn't want to attack him - at least for the moment.

The huge insect made some kind of strange scream and after that started to speak. Its voice was deep and had a strange echo, and it was speaking slowly: "How.did.you.get.this.flute?"

Mordekai was very shocked to hear that: "You can speak?!"

The creature responed with a simple: "Yes.", after which it repeated the same question it asked before. "How.did.you.get.this.flute?"

Sehan woke early, as he always did - all the best catches were usually gone by noon. He scavenged with scurrying footsteps whatever he could salvage from the crumbling ruins; food was, of course, most important, but anything else still usable was also useful. In fact, the mask he wore now was a modified gas mask, designed to protect against the sandstorms that frequently blew across the region - eroding the ruins even more.

Learned scholars told him the ruins were once a city - like a village, but much bigger - called Sh'kago, or Shic'ogo (Sehan himself preferred the former), and that everyone in it used magic to do amazing things and make their lives easy. What nonsense. Those 'scholars' said the craziest things sometimes (Some even thought all of Am'rica used to be one kingdom!). If they all had magic, then why did they all get killed during the Great Nuklar War? And why are there only ruins now?

Sehan's musings were interrupted by the sound of bicycle engines. He heard them often, but these sounded too close - biker gangs never ventured into ruins, it was one of their silly superstitions. The reason Sehan was living in the city now was because of the gangs' absence. If they were in the city, he was surely doomed.

They cornered him, and he shrunk against the wall. Their head honcho, armed with a chainsaw, advanced slowly, menacingly. Sehan knew he was dead meat - but so did the bikers, who wanted to draw out this moment as long as possible. Amid the bikers' shouts of 'Kill him!' and worse, Sehan - who had never been a particularly religious man, contrary to most of his peers - found himself praying desperately to the Stone-Faced Gods for anything, anything, to get him out of this mess.

As if in answer to his pleas, the ground began to rumble. The nearest parts of the ruined city - including the wall behind Sehan - rose from the ground, along with much of the earth around them. The suddenly active city parts coalesced into a single, roughly humanoid form:

Needless to say, the cowardly bikers were gone before the whole thing was finished. But Sehan - compelled by forces beyond his understanding - stayed. "Sh'kago?" he asked, facing the creature - monster - thing - elemental (it was one of the biggest words Sehan knew, and he was proud to have found an application for it). The city's living avatar-incarnation simply gazed back at him.

Without knowing why, Sehan placed his palm on the now-kneeling elemental's forehead and proclaimed, "You are Sh'kago. You are this city. And you are my BATTLE AVATAR!"

A flash of white light blinded Sehan (the same could not be said of Sh'kago, whose eyes were much more resistant to such effects), and he did not awaken until my next post.

"blessed with lucky sevens..." sighed Nevil when he was humming a little song he heard once, but he didn't know where he heard it, though.

Xaphan was getting pretty impatient. How long could something like that take?

Nevil was examining the scraps of metal lying around the repair shop, when the little girl appeared on the bunnies' back. "Mistew, fuwwy wabbit is all done" She said. Her tone of voice was always very random, Nevil noticed, now. He should watch out for this.

"It's time to continue, ehmm..." Nevil realised he never asked the girl's name.

the girl picked up on that realisation and said: "Sarah..."

Nevil nodded and smiled. "Well, it's nice to meet you, sarah, name's Nevil and my companion is Xaphan."

Both took off, while the rather pretty girl in the strange costume, made of denim, waved goodbye. "See y'all later and be careful out there!"

Nevil slammed his staff down and opened a portal to another arena. "Time to find the heart ofthe aren, the key to power eternal..." Nevil whispered. Xaphan rubbed his hand stogether as the little girl slept on the back of the bunny-like monster.

"I took the flute from some weird man - but that was in a different realm." replied Mordekai to the giant insect.

"The.flute... I.once.had.a.friend.human.who.could.play.it... He.killed.by.another.with.goggles... Flute.taken... Then.world.changed.and.never.seen.man.with.goggles.again."

"The Arena must has shifted and teleport the man with the goggles to the other realm where I found him with the flute." - The creature doesn't seem to understand what Mordekai is talking about.

"What's so interesting about this flute anyway? I only know that it can calm down some kind of insects with large mandibles."

"You.met.trexoids.before?"

"Trexoids?"

"Those.insects.named.trexoids... They.all.controlled.by.elder.brain... Flute.can.distort.connection.between.brain.and.trexoids... means.once.flute.played.trexoids.remain.idle."

"Ah, now I understand. That's why when I played the flute, those insects stopped attacking. So, the shifting of the Arena teleported some trexoids to the other realm as well; but it seems this 'elder brain' can control even the trexoids from other dimensions?"

"Powerful.brain.it.is... When.I.had.human.friend.and.flute.there.was.peace... Now.there.is.war.between.pentoids.and.trexoids."

"Pentoids?" asked Mordekai.

"Yes... I.am.pentoid... These.small.creatures.are.also.pentoids."

Mordekai figured that the giant insect was talking about the other 'bugs' in the room. "Why didn't you kill the brain when you had the flute?"

"I.never.thought.the.flute.and.my.friend.would.be.lost... But.now.I.want.to.kill.the.brain... Can.you.help? I.can.not.play.flute."

"You mean I would have to play this flute until we reach the brain so that the trexoids won't attack us?"

"Yes... And.then.we.kill.brain.and.it.over... Without.brain.trexoids.won't.attack.anymore."

"I see... but what do I get for this?"

"I.know.way.out.of.maze."

"You know a way out of this crazy maze? Excellent! It's a deal. I'll help you kill the brain to get out of this... But first, set Mephisto free."

"Mephisto?" asked the giant insect confused.

"Yes, that Archdevil you covered in your web."

The insect didn't say anything but it was clear that it understood what Mordekai meant, as it used its sharp claws to cut the web and set Mephisto free.

"Follow.me."

The creature seemed to know the maze pretty well, as it went from corridor to corridor without even thinking for a moment at splits. Mordekai and Mephisto were right behind it. After some time of going through those dark corridors, the creature stopped.

"What's wrong?" asked Mordekai

"To.the.right.is.corridor.leads.to.elder.brain... We.encounter.trexoids.soon... Be.prepared."

"Hmm, all right." Mordekai said, after which he took the lead with the flute. Indeed, the three encountered some trexoids who wanted to attack them, but Mordekai started to play the flute and they relaxed.

The deeper the three were going through the corridor, the more trexoids were encountered. After some time they entered a very big room with a lot of trexoids swarming inside. In the center there was a giant strange-looking brain.

"This.is.elder.brain... We.kill.it.now!"

Mordekai couldn't say anything as he was playing the flute, but Mephisto knew what to do. He and the giant insect attacked the brain until the yellow blood the brain had, stopped spraying.

"It.dead.at.last."

Mordekai was relieved to hear that, as he was tired of playing the flute. The brain was indeed dead - the trexoids didn't seem to attack them even after Mordekai stopped playing the flute.

"Thank.you.for.help.stranger."

"Now, I suppose it's your time to tell me how to get out of this maze. Which path should I follow through these corridors?"

"There.is.no.way.through.corridors... All.of.them.either.lead.to.dead.end.or.connect.to.another."

"What? Then how can I get out?"

"There.is.secret.tunnel."

"Secret tunnel?"

"Yes... Follow.me."

Mordekai and Mephisto followed the giant insect through the dark corridors once again. Eventually it stopped walking, and it touched a brick on the ceiling. A small part of the wall from the right of the corridor opened, and a long tunnel could be seen - it was impossible to know how long it was because of the black fog.

"I would have never get out of this maze without your help. Not only it's extremely difficult to find your way out from a maze, but to have to touch a specific brick in this maze is almost impossible to find out. Where does this tunnel lead, by the way?"

"I.not.know... Never.get.past.it."

"All right. I suppose you won't mind having the flute? It's useless for me anyway, now that the brain is dead."

"Yes.I.will.keep.the.flute... Goodbye."

"Farewell." - Mordekai and Mephisto ventured into the dark tunnel...

"AARRGH"
Excrutiating pain rushed though Sagraths body. The large beast stopped for a second at his scream, only to turn around on the Battle Spirit instead. He didn't seem to have any problem with that though.
"Here I am you stupid lump. How 'bout someone who actually can fight back?" He gave Sagrath a quick look. "Take care of those wounds, little priest. I'll handle this."
Once again streams of air seemed to fill the space around the warrior. Sagrath had noticed this before, it was the only technique he had understood so far.
*This battle would not be so difficult as he had thought. The beast was far to slow and stupid to make a good counter move ahainst him. Way too boring. Better finish up now.*
Sagrath saw how his companion became a blur, and then there was nothing but blood flooding from the wounds of the beast. When it fell to the ground the Battle Spirit reappeared and sheated his sword. He walked forth to Sagrath and watched him while he was healing himself.
"Good job, I guess", Sagrath said, still troubled by the pain. The Spirit remained silent for a while, then sat down and placed his hand on the wound.
"You really are wortless to be outclassed in your own expertise by a beginner".
Sagrath didn't understand what he meant first, but then he saw how his wound healed up quickly and smooth, much faster than when he was healing himself.
  "What, how did you.."?
"I've watched you stupid. Since you tend to get wounded in every **** fight, it is hard not to notice how you do it. Now..." He raised up. "Find me something entertaining to fight, or I'll just have to kill you instead. I'm bored", he added.
Sagrath had became used to that kind of talk. The Spirit had became a lot more eager for battle, taking more of his evil personality than the cold face that constantly had been up with in the beginning. Somehow, it was an improvement, he thought.
Just as the two were about to leave, foot steps were heard from the corridor behind. Both turned around to see a somewhat humanoid resembling being, dressed in a white robe and armour.
"Who, I wonder, dares to defile my halls"? his voice was low, with a strange echoing in it. He continued to walk forth to them, and the Battle Spirit draw his sword again.
"You mean that you are the actual guardian of this area? Good, I'm fed up with all these weaklings."
"Yes I can assure you my power reaches far above my little pets. Most probably I am the most powerfull opponent you have ever faced before, he said. He stopped walking and insted drawed a short, dark blade.
"In the name of Abrix, you will die", he said. Sagrath had just enough time to hide behind a pillar when the to combatants clashed, the air arround them filled with energy, as black and white sparks filled the area.

The door closed behind the creature, locking Kenji and Harus in the arena with it. It was a skeletal centaur, armed with a black schythe, the only flesh left was merely hanging around its mouth.

"New experiments? Good... I have grown tired of this body...

"Oh that's just great... doesn't this nexus have any creativity? It's always: Kill the guardian, move on..." Kenji sighed and shook his head, the creature laughed.

"You are amusing, you will make a nice puppet...

Harus wiped some blood of his chin, something was wrong with Kenji.

"Hey, how bout you wake up? This is getting annoying."

"How bout you shut up for a change? I don't need your help so back off." He raised his blade and dissapeared from view, invisibility was only one of Kenji's skills. The creature looked surprised, master and servant arguing? It laughed with its deep voice, and as he did, the whole arena transformed.

Suddenly they were standing in what looked like a cemetery, the control panel from before was gone, and there were gravestones and strangely shaped trees everywhere. Kenji was still invisible.

"You're really into this dead thing aren't you? It's not exactly scary you know..." Kenji appeared again, delivering a strike unto the centaur's legs. The strong bone legs only repelled his strike, and Kenji was forced to dodge the schythe. He made a quick flip, evading the next strike, even with that sickly large schythe the enemy was pretty fast. Harus backed away from the fight and seated himself on a small gravestone, he could only pray that Kenji would turn back to normal again... but right now the biggest problem was simply staying alive.

"Puny mortal, stand still and I'll finish you off."

"Oh, we're not done yet freak, if strength isn't the answer, I'll just hit you a thousand times." Kenji suddenly rushed with incredible speed towards the centaur, who didn't have time to parry before he was hit continuously in the neck. The bone simply seemed too strong, after 7 strikes, Kenji was forced to block a blow and failed.  The great schythe ripped his right leg up, electricity flowed through the wound, sending sparks around it. The cyborg showed no signs of pain, and simply pulled a tool from his right hand and quickly burned the metal together again, of course, it only helped to protect the wound... his movement capacity had been severely reduced.

"Kenji, that was really stupid, this guy is clearly beyond your level... your normal self would be smart enough to realize that..."

"Did I ask for your opinion? You're nothing to me, shut up before I make you bleed."

"Whatever... but I have this." Harus activated his mechanical left arm, revealing a small round device on the upper part of the arm.

"What's that...? You can't fool me."

"You don't remember? This is a last option device I created when you were still unfinished, it allows me to remotely control you for some time, so stop acting like an idiot and retreat."

"You fool, I'll cut you open as soon as the effect wears off."

"You're really stupid compared to the original Kenji, if I die, you die, you're programmed that way." The centaur just listened, he seemed extremly interested, silently analysing everything.

"I won't... I won't obey... I'll..." Kenji went silent as Harus activated the device, he needed to be quick, he couldn't control Kenji to fight this way, the device was extremly simple and only involved simple movement, not swordfighting. Kenji's body started running back from the fight, the crude movements made the centaur laugh again.

"Yes, run mortal filth, it only makes it more amusing." The centaur ran after him and raised its schythe to decapitate Kenji. the battle seemed lost, there was no way that Harus could make Kenji run any faster... not with that wound, and especially not when controlled by a simple remote. Suddenly a burst of light came from the sky, illuminating the dark creature. It screamed in pain and twisted its arms in strange movements, as if trying to bash the light away.

"How?!! Why??!!! WHO DARES?! This is MY realm!" The creature started to combust, but in a last effort it teleported itself out of view. The light spread, and all the gravestones started to combust, the twisted trees were transformed into beautiful bushes and flowers.

The remote's effect wore off, making Kenji collapse into the grass. Harus walked up to him, his eyes were black again, it would take some time before he woke up again. Just what the hell had happened? In any case, the creature was gone and a portal had appeared about 100 metres away. Smoke was rising from Harus' left arm, the remote had been destroyed... fortunately, Kenji didn't know about that, at least now he knew what happens if he decides to go crazy. Harus picked up Kenji and carried him towards the portal, it was best to continue as fast as possible in case the creature decides to come back.

The light was already starting to fade away, but he managed to make it to the portal, which quickly swallowed them and sent them to the next arena.

They had pulled out of sight of the intersection when they came to an odd place. Like the first few chambers Dr. Crates had encountered, it looked as if the pipe had been sheared off with a laser scalpel and pushed up against a very dirty brick wall. An entrance resembling a garage door was set in it, and above that was an incredibly grubby sign that read “Rep ir and Bat       nt Depot”.

A smaller side door camouflaged by the rusty walls opened, and one of the Depot’s occupants emerged—a huge man who positively towered over Crates and eyed the quartet with a long-suffering air.

“Another one ay? Well bring’em inta ‘ere, we’ll fix’em up for ye’s.”

The giant man trundled out of the comparatively small door frame (How had he fit through it?! It hardly seemed big enough to admit him…) over to the garage and pushed up the door with one massive hand.

Robotic equipment and other odds and ends were scattered all over the incredibly dirty room beyond it. Grease and oil lay so thick on the walls their original material was almost indistinguishable. Crates looked at the mess with a sort of professional horror; sure, battlefield conditions were less than ideal for most medical operations, but this was—

Vergard and the beast of blades went in without a word, as though it were the most natural thing in the world, leaving the medic gaping. He hurried in after them when the giant man coughed impatiently and started to shut the door.

Near an equipment-covered counter something moved. A lithe form, female and so dirty he almost mistook her for a greasy bit of machinery looked up from the doodad she was repairing and waved to them. The beast of blades trotted over and leaped out onto a clear spot on the counter and gazed at her impatiently. She chuckled good-naturedly.

“’Old yer horses, ‘M right in th’ middle of—”

There was a series of snapping, metal-on-metal sounds and the beast of blades’ ribs split down the middle. There was a jam in the front where Crates’ companion had been shot by the robotic Avatar in the previous fight, then a wrenching sound and Stelis was unceremoniously dumped on the counter.

“—oh. Righty then. Y’all wait just a second.”

The lady mechanic squirmed out of a maze of pipes and circuitry over to Stelis’ unconscious form. The beast of blades leapt down from the counter and ambled over to the door, sticking its bladed head in the crack between door and floor to lever it up—

“Oh no ye don’! Where d’ye thin’ yer goin’?” The giant man demanded, arms crossed and tone that of a scolding parent.

The beast of blades lifted the door up above its head and looked back at him, as innocently as what was appearance-wise an animated metal sculpture could look. Its ribs closed back together, and though the surface was clean and whole-seeming neither of the Depot’s inhabitants missed the gap where whatever had gotten slagged refused to go back into place properly.

“Stubborn idiot. Fine, y’all go wanderin’ fer a bit while we patch yer friend up. But don’ come cryin’ back t’me if y’all dun make it back ‘cause ya git ‘acked t’bits ‘cause ya didn’ have the patience to wait!” The black-haired mechanic shook her head irritably, hands on hips. Then she turned to the bard. “Don Vergard, if y’all’d be so good as t’ come over ‘ere fer when Stelis wakes—“

The old bard looked up from his cat’s-cradle with an expression of alarm. “How do you know my name?”

The woman sighed. “Y’all came around awhile back after a lil’ scrape with dat giant mongoose, r’member?”

His eyes took on the glint of a storyteller with a fantastic tale to tell, but the lady-mechanic cut him off.

“Not now, ya daft idiot! We’re ta git y’all in workin’ order first.”

The beast of blades nudged Dr. Crates back out the door and back down the pipe as the Depot inhabitants got to work.
