The beast of blades seemed to have found the easiest way down, or perhaps decided that no way was better than any other, as it snapped its jaws over its head in irritation. Setting sharp claws into the walls of the tunnel, it edged over the lip of the hole and made to climb down.

"Should we follow that creature, master?" asked Mephisto while pointing to the big hole.
"Well, better than staying here and doing nothing, that's for sure." - replied Mordekai - "But are you sure we'll be able to get down there without hurting ourselves?"
"With my Hover ability, I can fall huge distances without getting hurt at all. I can slow down my falling speed when approaching the ground, and I will not hit the floor at all, so there will be no injuries."
"Excellent idea Mephisto! Let's go then."
After Mordekai said this, Mephisto walked to the edge of the hole, and, while carrying Mordekai, he jumped into the darkness of the abyss. Thanks to his Hover ability, he managed to land safely.

Those who follow the tunnel travel for what seems like an eternity. Finally, they come to an area that leads up to the surface. When they surface, it looks like a Colliseum (spelling?) and they are in the middle of it. The ground is covered in sand..it seems that the creature found a place to it's advantage and decided to stop running.

Dr. Crates shortly found himself gripping the smooth metallic interior of his Avatar as they descended (Crates having caught up to his companion when the latter looked ready to leave without him). The straps had been burned away by the earlier attack of fire, so the journey was more harried than it needed to be.
It didn’t help that he kept seeing his hands and expecting them to be charred and bleeding rather than just mildly damaged; somehow watching his Avatar heal itself was completely different from experiencing it first hand. He had been able to dismiss or accept any number of strange things since his arrival here, but now the Nexus had intruded into sacred ground: his field of expertise. The mental shock that had been building itself since his arrival was just beginning to surface, and he knew from experience the reaction would spiral rapidly from here.
But now, just before a fight, was definitely not the time to deal with it. Dr. Crates kept his mind off it by concentrating very hard on the walls of the tunnel.
At last they reached the end of the tunnel; he slid out of his Avatar’s hollow ribcage with difficulty and looked around.
“An arena,” he remarked aloud for no particular reason. He didn’t immediately see the rogue node-slash-Avatar. “What happens now?”

"Now, we decide the outcome of this... Mess..." Xaphan grumbled. He put down his master who still was breathing heavily. Xaphan looked at Dr. crates and the summoner. "We should fight this monster, if you people ever want to turn back home or even dream of seeing the true power of the nexus. You guys understand what I'm trying to say?" Xaphan asked.
He spat out small flares and unfolded his great wings. "This is what I was made for..."

As you contemplate your next move..you see many ghostly images floating past above you. They seem to be sleeping. The nexus has been shifted by the great worm, but at least that weakened him greatly. It rises and lashes out toward the beast of blades, sending it reeling and turns its attention to the next beast in its way.

To Xaphan, Crates replied somewhat skeptically, “Do you really think we’re going to have a choice in the matter?”
Crates’ question was answered with violent noise as the worm-node-Avatar came out of nowhere and sent his companion flying. He leaped back from the attacking monstrosity instinctively; the beast of blades was sent rolling across the arena sands in a tangle of ringing metal.
At last Crates’ Avatar rolled to its bladed feet with pained difficulty; the healing light rippled over its body until most of the damage was neutralized. Then it charged for the enemy Avatar, the sandy arena floor spraying up in its wake.
The worm monster was swinging overhead like a sick, serpentine pendulum, but Crates was a medic first and Xaphan was already in the air. He grabbed Nevil’s shoulders and started dragging the other man out of reach of the rogue node, praying for Nevil to stand up. He needed to get his brief acquaintance out of reach of Abrix’s Avatar before he could see if his medical skills could be put to any use.

Mephisto charged to attack the great worm from behind and poke the Trident in the worm's skin while also slashing with his left hand's dark claws. The worm seemed to be extremely resistant and wasn't hurt much by Mephisto's attack. It quickly turned around and with a great ferocity it hit Mephisto with such a high force that he was pushed back and hit the coliseum's wall. The worm couldn't attack and finish Mephisto off because it was suffering strikes from the other demon and the beast of blades as well. Although Xaphan was quick enough to dodge the worm's attacks, he couldn't do much damage to the worm either, as the skin of this monstrosity was extremely thick and tough, and sooner or later the demon would fail at evading the enemy strikes.
Mordekai was looking at Mephisto who was injured by the powerful strike of the worm. The Archdevil was preparing to attack the worm again, but from a distance this time using the Dark Nova ability. However, Mordekai interrupted his action: "No, it is pointless. We will not be able to defeat this powerful abomination with our normal attacks - it proved to be too resistant. It will finish us off before we'll be able to even weaken it this way."
Mephisto was now looking at his master, while Mordekai made a short pause to gather his thoughts, as if he didn't like what has to be done at all. Eventually he expressed his idea: "Summon forth the spectral army! Although it will weaken me considerably, it is the only way if we are to survive this encounter."
And so Mephisto started to use the Shades of Hades ability. As it is a long process to summon the great spectral army, Mordekai was just hoping that the other two would keep the worm busy until Mephisto finishes. The atmosphere changed, everything got darker because of a strange black fog who was getting more and more dense. When the fog got so thick that you couldn't see properly even at some 10 meters away, Mordekai who was loosing some of his power fell down on his knees while screaming of pain.
Eventually lots of ghastly voices could be heard from all around the place. Mephisto stopped his special summonings - the spell casting was over, and many spectral minions were starting to form up in the dense black fog. Hundreds of them.
After suffering from the use of that ability, Mordekai finally managed to form up a small grin on his face: "Let's see if that damn worm can resist this as well."

Xaphan was mostly going solo as he was circling around the worm, teasing it with flames and fists.
In the meantime, Nevil slowly got up. He slowly realised where he was. His scorched skin and clothes reminded him of a world of pain. "Help..." he uttered miserably as he was stumbling away from the gigantic worm. He realised what a fool he was to enter this place at his age...

The huge abomination seemed almost impervious to damage. It's thick hide further protected by the sand of the area. The field seemed to increase its speed also, further making the creature a danger. The spectral army hit the beast full force, and its resistance seems less to non physical attacks. Howling the creature seems hurt again, and again is looking to make a tunnel for it to escape. Fire seems to do little or no damage to it, and the physical attacks of the beast of blades seems to have reduced effect also.

((Looks like it's up to me to take initiative again.  ))
The beast of blades abruptly changed tactics, skittering around the gigantic worm and attacking where ever it could cause the foe the most irritation, dodging attacks and providing a distraction for the other two Avatars.
Dr. Crates, meanwhile, was absently searching his person for something that could help Nevil, his concentration too focused to pay the battle much mind. Were he not suffering the effects of shock, he may have wondered why the beasts of blades' soundless roar had not repaired most of the damage already, but since he was the thought never occurred to him.
At last he found what he was looking for: a bottle of compressed fluid concealed in his boot that, when sprayed, burst into disinfecting foam and dried into a gel-like covering that would act as a bandage until it was absorbed. He obviously didn't have an entire hospital's worth of equipment on him, so synthetic skin or other specialized burn treatments were out of the question, but hopefully this would do.
With swift efficiency despite the rather glassy look in his eyes, Dr. Crates began treating Nevil's burns.

The beast of blades manages to find a cut caused earlier and dig into the wound. That proves to be too much for the creature, and it collapses lying still. Things settle in the Nexus, coverting back to the stone that it was originally. An eerie silence falls. The damage to the nexus was done, and it may take a miricle to restore it back to the way it should be.

The giant worm was lying dead on the floor but Mordekai wasn't so sure about it. He suggested Mephisto to be cautious and see if that monster is really dead. So the Archdevil shot at the worm with his dark powers and it didn't give any sign of reaction or life. Finally, the surroundings started changing and the environment was restored to what it once was before the corruption.
Although the powerful monster has been slain, Mordekai wasn't feeling very comfortable. He was weakened and hurt considerably because of the Summon Shades ability Mephisto had to use in the fight, and his battle avatar was badly injured as well. Furthermore the eerie silence was giving him an unnatural fear. Who knows what other dangerous things could lurk in the Nexus?
