Actually the battles are more crazy than ever, but with moderate quantity of creatures. Try first turn to see what I mean.

It is impossible to work with Heroes fantasy creatures when simulating an historical scenario without improvising. Of course I can change the griffins with nomads, but then what I do with King Porus elephants(ghost behemots), Darius's sacred phoenix (herculians), fire catapults (antichrists)? And from what creature I upgrade the nomads? From basic griffin would not look better.

All I can is give them abilities to simulate the real facts: light cavalry has double strike, beeing fast, elephants (GB) pass through obstacles and Herculians can almost never be killed.

I do not have the kind of creatures available to make everything look as normal. So you have to use your imagination and forgive me.

As it is specified in the read me txt. coming with the map, I tried to reproduce eveything close to the reality as much as possible. HoMM3 map format does not let me put the ancient cities in their precise locations, as 500KM from reality means 4 squares or so in a XL map. So having Sparta 4 squares from Athens will not create any challenge from a strategic point. Would be possible with a map of Ancient Greece, but here you have half of the whole world.

The history of the cities is absolutely the real one, Alexander conquest life and death were related exactly as happened, and the most important battles were reproduced with real text quoted from Plutarch or other historical sources.

The name of units was slightly modified, most because the real macedonians names were confusing, so I used mercenary troops names. Some cities never visited by Alexander, as Rome, Carthage, Tripoli, have a specified text included where it is explained why they are present and what will be their role in the present scenario.

So, I think, yes, you can find a lot of accurate history in this scenario. Certainly thousand more times than browsing permanent forums spam.

The phalanx were equiped with 6 meters long spears. It is not the weapon that I tried to reproduce but the role in the battle. The phalanx were always attacked in first and had the most heavy loses. And it is exactly what happens in this scenario.

In real battle, it is unlike to be able to reach the archers from the early moments. Heroes battlefields do not propose any option to protect them or put somewhere far away. Thus my choice.

And sorry about my question about the phalanx, HOMM isn't historical.

I think it is the last one. Three months ago I just wanted to prove myself and learn ERM from scratch. I created three original maps, each one with a different story and scripts.  It took me all summer and now is time  to do something else. I did all I wanted to.

I have no more ideas left for a new map.

Just a question, but I thought Immortals were with the Persian Empire (most notably King Xerxes and the battle of the 300 Spartans) and not with the Macedonians?

I just downloaded the map though and I am going to give it a go and tell you what I think once I have tried it. But so far, from all the pictures, it looks very interesting.

Yes, as I posted previous I used some mercenary names. Mainly because the macedonians names were not easy to handle. (see below)
Also I needed 7 names and Alexander split his army only in 4 groups: heitaroi, prodromoi, hypaspist and pezaroi.

Phalanx, bolt throwers and Immortals were recruited by Alexander from grecs, scythians and perses. And also the archangels names as Immortals fit perfectly with their HoMM abilities to ressurect and never die, thus the choosed name.

Anyway, don't look for 100% historical accurate names, as there are 196 creatures in HoMM and I really could not find 196 historical names. So macedonians will fight behemots, dragons, lords of thunder etc. WoG has immense potential but it uses the same creatures as the original game. And until the lazy antipaladin upload his creatures mod I have to work with what is inside.

The description at the top says about what is accurate in this scenario.I put inside even a balloon to simulate town portal, so don't get mad. The point is to have fun playing it.

Last version was uploaded to same link.

Changes:

Script boosting AI: human player can no longer block monolith exits. If doing so, he will be slow cursed while AI will be haste enchanted.

Script checking squares/heros availability when TM triggers execute: all possible crashes due to ghost heroes were avoided.

Help is now available clicking right mouse on the kingdom overview.

Script enabling/disabling AI triggers now executes by clicking right mouse on the END TURN box.

Replaced scripted objects/and events previously located on x/0/y and 0/x/y. It seems border squares are out of range.

Removed dispel from AI book for crashes purpose. Human player will have his spells modified when fighting the AI previously gifted with dispel.

Grammar errors fixed.

Will be last update so far.

You can't disable that. But you can use "wogshadowfax" code to get unlimited movement for Alexander and finish it in one day. As you are already month 11 you should have enough creatures. Map is fixed to be completed in about 6 months.

In fact they Are:
Heitaroi(Cavalry)
Prodromoi(Cavalry)
Hypaspist(Swordsmen)
Pezairoi(The Phalanx)
Toxoti(Archers)
Hippikon(Cavalry)
Gastraphetes(Syracusa Crossbowmen but you can use them as lv.5 or 6)
Greek Ballistae(instead of Gastraphetes)
Here is my suggestion

lv.1 Athens Scout(woodelf)-Elite toxotes(grandelf)
lv.2 Greek Rider-Elite Prodromoi(Cavaliers)
lv.3 Horseman-Hippikon(Nomads)
lv.4 Greek Militia(Swordsmen)-Hypaspisti(Crusader)
lv.5 Cretan Archer(Sharpshooter)-Gastraphetes(Marksman)
 or Greek Ballistae-Reinforced Ballistae(Ballista)
lv.6 Greek Champion(Paladin Commander)-Heitaroi(Champion)
lv.7 Hoplite(Pikeman)-Pezairoi(Haldbeirder)

And my idea is that the Greek Cities train only the non-upgraded units while the macedonians train the upgraded.

Here they are in new models:
Athens scout changed to Bowman and Greek Champion is based on Swordsmen + he is renamed to Myrmydon:
